really good show, however... Sarcozy is not the Obama of europe, that made me almost laugh.
Altough I think his vision is to see a strong and united europe, and I sympathize with that.

One thing that has not been brought out, the real significance of which occurred to me lately, is that he is mostly a Mid-Westerner (altho Chicago IS something of an anomaly), the first such we've had since Ike, really, because Ford doesn't much count. JFK and Bush Sr would be New Englanders. LBJ, Carter, Clinton and Bush Jr, Southerners. Nixon and Reagan, Californians. Despite the amount of time spent in Iowa, most people in the media world probably have little idea of Mid-Western values so I would point to their self-reliance - small farms and manufacturing - patriotism and, paradoxically to some, isolationism. By and large they have been Protestants and sound money men. When was the last time you've heard a president really serious about any of these things?
We've had, btw, non-state actors for a long time. Think of the 19th c anarchists. Obviously they can create a lot of havoc, but we seem to be taking them so much more seriously now. I'd call it Whiggery run amuck, and particularly so because it is clearly so hypocritical. The Arabs are right in thinking we are soft. In the old days we'd just have either just slapped or leveled Iraq, not tried to domesticate it. We never seem to succeed at it, so we put them in prison instead.
