"What the absolute bottom line is that to gain equanimity in ones personality, one has to wrestle with ones own self and that means dealing with ones emotional history and making it your own. That is why Lincoln was so measured and was able to weather the great stresses put upon him during his Presidency".

Read and understand Obama's 1st book "Dreams From My Father" if you want the truth firsthand. Remain ignorant if you just want something to wring your hands about, sadly the new American way.

So, apparently Obama doesn't have the experience to be President but he has the experience the bring down half the American finanicial system, and the ACORN fiasco was the centre of the whole collapse....that would be both rich and clutching at straws. Bush is, without question, the worst President in 100 years, possibly ever, and it's hard to argue. Two wars, two recessions, a week to respond to Hurricane Katrina. Not to mention the other option for the top job (McCain) gets on TV the same day that Bear Stearns collapses and AIG file for bankruptcy and says the fundamentals of the US financial system are strong. Wow. Clever.Barack is a politician, so of course we all know he won't live up to all his promises, but he'll be in office for the next four years, possibly eight, and if, seriously, IF, he does fix this economic crisis, then the Republicans will be making sandwiches for a lot longer than 8 years. His economic team consists of Warren Buffett, Paul Volcker and Eric Schmidt....funny thing about those three is, well, they just might know a thing or two about how money works. Or maybe I'm being high-minded......

Dear Hopeless: I understand that telling the American people 40 years ago would have gone over like a Led Zeppelin, and the American people would have laughed in their faces. But that is when they knew, that is when they started to spend more then they were taking in.It has been business as usual no matter what the circumstances since that date. It was only a matter of time before the well went dry.

I enjoyed the discussion very much - nothing new said but I like the people a lot. Not so great to continue to hear that this was all about imagery and emotion and rock star marketing. Sure makes me feel better about the New Yorker passionately pushing their choice, which is fine, and bashing the choice of those of us who put our own cognition and experience ahead of entertainment in making our choice of leadership (which aint so fine). As a democrat who voted for him, I back Obama all the way now. The New Yorker has lost a subscriber.

SYSTEMIC PROBLEMS, perverse incentives, muh-uh-uh-larry-ee-uh-huh-huh. Why Lord? Why?... Banking and Finance industry lazy. I'm half crazy. Cuz mah confidence dead. Yes mah confidence deh-eh-ed.

    6. Hopelessly Optimistic  11/11/2008 08:48 AM Report

Excuse me. That's FOREIGN competition. FOREIGN COMPETITION!... Just wanted to make that clear.

    7. Hopelessly Optimistic  11/11/2008 08:42 AM Report

Dear TABS, I get the gist of your Comment by TABS on Tuesday, Nov 11 at 07:17 AM - But your cause of the effect sounds a bit like you had a sip of sock puppet kool-aid, for me thinks if the government started telling the people back in 1968 (or there abouts), that we need to start sacrificing and preparing for the upcoming tsunami of unregulated and unequal, "free" market foreign competition. Realistically, I think that would have flown like a lead balloon. Much like Jimmy Carter's "optimism".------------ But, we're here now, we're aware of the problems, no excuses going forward... TEN HUT!

    8. TABS  11/11/2008 07:17 AM Report

Neither the Media nor the US government has told the American people the truth in the last 40 years. Forty years ago the US government should have told the people to tighten their belts and expect a drop in their standard of living because the US was facing foreign labour competition. However the US went blighty on till this very day. Only the illusion has become more and more frayed as time has gone on. At this time we will be lucky to avoid a crash and burn scenerio of the global economy, Which would be the death knell of the American Empire aka Globalization. However if the economy does survive it will be only a matter of time before it does collapse as the systemic problems that got us into this mess have not been dealt with. That is why it is imperative that the new administration takes it very slow in creating new programs. One must return the system as it is to health before one can start tinkering with dynamics whose ramifications are unknown. For it might be thought to be better that 47M people do not have health care then 300M people.

Clinton, W. Bush, Obama, who's next? That obnoxious Jewish lady on "The View"?... Is this how God planned on ending the world?... Is this what happens after all the grown-ups die? Has anyone noticed how the kids are raising their kids these days?... Did anyone notice how they were raised?... When's the last time you saw Abraham Lincoln?... That's what I thought.

    10. TABS  11/11/2008 03:19 AM Report

McCain and Hillary are riding in a car and one says to the other, "I did not know until today that it was Senator Kennedy who beat us." Obama on his own could never have beat us."

      ..................................................................................................... .................................................................

When one hears Obama speak it sounds like the Tin Man from the Wizard Of OZ, hollow as a drum. Where does such a man get all the great equanimity out of thin air, out of a book? Where is the passsion, when Lincoln heard about the death of a friend he cried, that certainily is not being in a "zone." Lincoln was short on government experience but was long on life experience. When we pull back the curtain on Barrack we find Barry. What the absolute bottom line is that to gain equanimity in ones personality, one has to wrestle with ones own self and that means dealing with ones emotional history and making it your own. That is why Lincoln was so measured and was able to weather the great stresses put upon him during his Presidency. With Barrack it arrives because he thinks that is what Serious people do, and under stress they crumble because they have no real under pinnings. That is why he sounds like Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz.

      ..................................................................................................... ..............................................................

Now we are all supposed to sing the Munchkin Song from the Wizard of OZ. One thing is correct this isn't Kansas anymore Toto and it sure seems like America is becoming the land of OZ. Where fantastical things occur.

Clinton McCain Edwards and all the rest worked hard to lose my vote. Clinton with Rove tactics.

McCain with a schizo personality split from 2000.

The unknown was Obama the steady calm intelligence.

What did you expect to happen. I can tell when someone doesn't believe what they're saying. Who can't?

    12. Daryll  11/11/2008 01:12 AM Report

To Allen2Saint - You are the ignorant one!!!

Read Stanley Kurtz's research on Obama. That is a logical syllogism to want to barf that he media never aired his research. CNN did!!

Fox Did!! But you air heads who are bent hell on race don't think clearly. So what if he won. HE won because of stupidity like you!!! Tell me one thing he ever did besides help ACORN make exorbinant subprime loans which contributed vastly to the meltdown? Or that he ran on "Change ...Change HOPE HOPE HOPE HOPE CHANGE!!! Yeah so what change?..It'll be pocket change for you. - read stanley kurtz!!! Read Jack Cashill...but maybe you can't read because your bias won't allow you to. We are angry at the press for suppressing the truth. And you all are going to pay for it!! Just watch!! Don't come on here telling us we are rants of rage without reason. And you will be sorry very soon...Obama already told you you have to sacrifice..that's cuz he can't possibly live up to his promises..empty promises...The Arsonist can't put out the fire!

    13. Allen2Saint  11/10/2008 11:47 PM Report

I've never seen such a flood of ignorant, hateful rants! And the sad, sickening part is that NONE of you are coming up with rational reasons to disagree with Obama, which I could at least respect. Your sense of entitlement, and your ignorance would be very disheartening to me...if I didn't remember that these two facts: Obama won, and he won the popular vote!

    14. I grew up watching PBS. Actually, I grew up because I watched PBS……………………and then I read these comments! These are the best and the brightest hosts, guest and audiences today. Beschloss, Remnick and Brinkley as three wise men? You have got to be kiddi  11/10/2008 09:27 PM Report

If the mass media hadn't been so defiantly in the tank for Obama, and had they allowed Stanley Kurtz to air his research about Obama's involvement with Ayers on more issues than the Annenberg Challenge, and Obama's ties to Rashid Khalidi, and his having gone to court to sue Citibank to force them to make subprime loans to ACORN..how that was the catapult to the financial meltdown...then ACORN went to Congress to put pressure on Fannie and Freddie to have them allow the banks to make more subprime loans..this well thought out economic disaster was Ayers and Obama dropping ACORN bombs in every inner city, and on the FEDERAL RESERVE DEPT. Them American Public was denied knowing this truth. And so I am ashamed to be an American. I hate the media and I want all who believe this to write the stations and boycott watching any of these Fascist states messages!!!! And they want the fairness doctrine? How dare you America! Slime media! I feel like i am living in a communist country!

Don't tell us to give this man a chance! You did'nt give truth a chance!!! And it will come back to bite your tush! All of you freaks! Oprah, and all the stupid tv talk shows that do nothing but make fools of themselves! Ask yourselves why the "Paulson Plan, included "The Stock Injection Clause/Option?..option for the secretary of state to take over the banks?, fire the bankers, and nationalize the banks?. You frigin idiots..that is what this administration will eventually do. This administration will usher in a far far left agenda, that they are hoping will bring in "Government owned Production"..that is the agenda of the "New Party", that Obama is a member of. Why did Obama attend a Gamaliel Foundation Community Organization last year 2007 while a senator? It is highly unusual for a senator to do that? Read up on Gamaliel. They have a "Liberation/Theology agenda, point of view like Reverand Wright. Anti-American, Anti-Capitalistic, anti-whitey. You all think these historians are telling you the truth? Not in their wildest! They are afraid, or they don't know, because our communist media has denied our researchers from speaking the truth. Google Stanley Kurtz Ethics and Public Policy Center.

    16. peachfuzz  11/10/2008 08:49 PM Report

whether you support Obama's ideas or not, whether you think he talks rubbish or he has actual substance, it's hard to argue against the fact that he ran a largely seamless campaign. Hillary had the momentum, John Edwards was slick, Mitt Romney was rolling in cash, McCain the war hero, and yet he has risen to trounce them all. His next few moves will have to be precise, and I'm very cautious as to how he will fix some of the problems, because they all seem of major importance, but there's no need to start laying into the guy before he's even put a foot in the oval office.....Give him a fair chance, he deserves time to work it out. 22 months of relentless campaigning means can't be the easiest thing to do. Considering the way the economy is right now, and the economic mis-management of the Bush administration, the only way is up. By the way, i'd also be very cautious to come out and say he won't be able to do it. He's got the top job now, and many people think he wouldn't get out of the primaries. Give him some time. In Boston, they were calling for Doc Rivers head 12 months before he coached them to last years NBA championship....

Sometimes I read the comments before seeing the video, and I wonder if we are all watching the same video.

I thought this was a very honest, appropriate and helpful analysis.

    18. Eric Smith  11/10/2008 04:04 PM Report

So New York white media elite guests all drank the Koolaid. As uncritically as the media rubber-stamped us into the Iraq War, they uncritically elected untried Obama.

David Remnick said point blank, Obama has a thin track record so none of us know how he will govern, that his magazine the New Yorker has been in the "tank" (quoting here) for Obama and they need to climb out, and whether he can govern or not requires a "leap of faith."

Pinhead Columbia Professor Alan Brinkley was positively orgasmic over the guy, coming up with such gems as he is the most eloquent president since Lincoln. Gosh, I thought professors were supposed to be dispassionate and logical and examine data. I would suggest he listen to Barbara Jordan and Churchill to remind himself what eloquence sounds like.

Your guests were an embarassment through and through, and provide a huge disservice to the "informed" democratic public with their personal-preference, misinformation campaigns.

    19. TABS  11/10/2008 03:40 PM Report

Now ya see Hillary had it right about Obama with her "Call at 3 AM" Ads. She just didn't take it to the logical conclusion that Mr Obama's character is not suited to deal with extreme crisis. Anybody who has to "stay in a zone" of emotional responses does not do well with immediate crisis. Even when Obama was pressed during the debates one saw him start to stutter, that is what he does when under pressure. The more the pressure the more the stutter. The Democrats who have been supporting Obama have been able to keep him cloistered so that he could maintain his zone.

      ..................................................................................................... ..................................................................

Ohh how the worm turns, it started the day before the election. With Charlie asking Brokaw "Who is this guy?" Up to that moment Mr Obama could do no wrong, he WAS the darling of the media. They fell over him in a swoon, in an orgasmic love fest. Starting the day before the election the media started to act like a pack of wolves nipping at his sides, questioning his every move and eventually will tear him apart. The hue and cry will be, "Why can't the messiah Obama deliver the promised land, why can't he stand up and be the man we thought he was." Even Obama's "There is only one president." statement has been critisied on CNBC. So it starts.

      ..................................................................................................... ..................................................................

On the Hill all those Democrats have their fiefdoms and they are not about to be pushed over by a guy who ultimatily is light in the loafers. Mr Obama wants to change Washington, well the last Democratic President who was able to accomplish anything of that magnitude was LBJ. As everyone knows LBJ had years of experience and gravitas in making and conjoling legislation. One is going to think that Barry Obama from Chicago who has done nothing but rubber stamp Democratic proposals is going to be able to get anything done. Now some have alluded that the Lion of the Senate ole Teddy Kennedy was the real brains and muscle behind Mr Obama. However Mr Kennedy's health is decling and he will not be able to wield his power much longer. With the Old Lion gone, who is going to have the experience, clout and know how to get things done. Let alone the polictical squabbling that goes on for succession of the Old Lions power. Mr Obama is going to find himself greatly weakened and out there alone once that happens. Ironically it is going to happen sooner than later.

      ..................................................................................................... .................................................................

Wouldn't it be ironic that the Obama Presidency might be stillborn before he ever gets into office? That is simply why the Democrats are going to surround Mr Obama with the best talent they can find. Call it a shadow government if you will. They will try and make Mr Obama be the best President they can. Calling him out for holidays, cermonies and parade days to come out and wave at the people. "Oh isn't he so wonderful, the first African American President!" Let us see how many of his appointments go to African Americans, beyond the token few.

      ..................................................................................................... .................................................................

So the con is in, and the Demcorats will get everything they want. Only they had better be very care of what they wish for, because the law of unintended consequences is about to catch up to them. Maybe just maybe that is why Nancy Pelosi is now calling for "governing from the center" She wants some cover to be able to share the responsibilty when things either go wrong or don't goes as well as expected. The Democrats are now in the hot seat and it is going to get hot because they now have no excuses or anyone to blame but themselves. The recriminations will start soon and the infighting will begin...at the bell.

    20. Dav Lev  11/10/2008 03:32 PM Report

I was a Democrat, then became an Independent when I realized that being a Democrat stood for taxing and spending by big nanny government, rather than private initiative, enterprise. Or as one industrialist said recently, it's about equality of opportunity, but NOT success. I agree totally. I would expect David Remnick, the publisher of the very leftist, liberal New Yorker, to have blamed Bush for all our ills, in effect, calling him disgustingly stupid. In fact, Bush saved our you know what from the Islamic-fascists. Bush will go down in history as a great President, one of the best, with Lincoln, Washington, Truman. If not for the sub-prime mortgage crisis, McCain would have won the election. He has leveled with Obama, who admittedly ran a brilliant campaign, fooling the American people into thinking he was some kind of messiah. He was a junior Senator with virtually no experience in office, and a far left liberal besides. Nothing more. He started on the left, and worked towards the center. to pick up the Hillary votes and Independents. He had the minorities in his pocket from day one.

The next 2 years will reveal the true nature of his regime..then we will be back.

    21. sandra  11/10/2008 08:54 AM Report

      To Awe and Name callers,

If you are so blissed about your "Messiah's" nomination, why come here and bother? You are nut cases for sure! I don't like people who don't like whites. I like blacks, i have black friends. But I don't like your type. So there! Scram and stop calling people who don't like being hated by blacks Rednecks. I don't care for Jeremiah Wright types, and we know Obama and Michelle went there for 20 yrs. There connection to Gamaliel foundation is another evidence of their true sentiments. Go figure AWE! btw- I don't care for the KKK either!

Last thought. The red necks on this forum are not surprising but the hue of beet-red, fiery-red, intolerant-red is. Which makes me speculate about the heavy role the secret service has in protecting OHB. May be impossible. His (inevitable?) assassination will turn more than the US into a fiery cauldron, but Africa, England - maybe France. The emotional tears of joy from the black community will be instantly turned to tears of anguish, then rage and an attendant loss of hope (audacious or otherwise). The financial chaos were already in will not endure and we are kapoot as a nation. Maybe it's what we deserve in the end. Armageddon types rejoice.

Sandra - you retain first place. No contest. I don't read Kurtz or Cashill - or Limbaugh either for that matter. So Obama is black. So he went to a black church. Acorn is probably (mostly) black. --------------> From Kurtz: "Acorn’s new goals are municipal “living wage” laws targeting “big-box” stores like Wal-Mart, rolling back welfare reform, and regulating banks — efforts styled as combating “predatory lending.” -------------------> We're being socialized now because of predatory lending and subprime exploitation. And they're rewarding the predators with the oversight of the bailout they made necessary. Acorn's very existence is doubtless spawned from exploitation. -------------------------> Cashill, like Kutz, seems to be clutching at straws. Stretching paralellisms from Ayers writing to Obamas. Everyone is influenced by reading. Doris Kearns Goodwin plagierized a book re Lincoln, but she's still worth listening to. ----------------------> Eight years with W and Dick and you still seem to be a deeply ensconced neocon and doubless hopeful that Obama is discovered to be indeed a Black Panther, or better yet a outright terrorist. Yeah, I like irony as much as sophistry, let's go with terrorist-in-the-white-house to round out your standing. Hold that thought. You'll revel in it.

50% of America is onto Obama and his trappings. If Oprah is so for reparations and changing the constitution that obama complained about in 2001, then why doesn't she open private schools for poor black americans, instead of in Africa, and instead of donating to Obama's campaign?

One of the speakers on Rose's show said that Obama grew up in Kansas...that's a lie. He grew up in Hawaii and then in Indonesia from age 6-11. He never faced white oppression. It's all a scam developed by Ayers to fit in with let's find a "cause"...a little too late. And all the blacks who have succeeded and have businesses are going to balk when obama taxes their businesess...There is no way in H he will get reelected after everyone finds out about Stanley Kurtz's research and Jack Cashill's findings that Ayers wrote "Dreams of my Father".

Watch the Meacham/Rose interview...they laugh at the made up character, that even Obama has laughed at in his interview with Newsweek. This man is laughing at you America. And so is Bill Ayers.

One of the jokers on your show last night claimed that England celebrated the election of Barack Obama by letting off fireworks across the country. Did it not occur to this "expert" that the announcement of Mr. Obama as President-Elect came to England on November the 5th, or, Guy Fawkes day - the day when we celebrate the failure of the Gunpowder Plot. It had nothing at all to do with the US, it's election or finally doing something right politically.

      Dear Sir,

      Get a clue.

      Many thanks in advance.

Didja hear the news they are going to make a Hollywood movie of Obama's life, can you imagine that? They are going to call it, "Mr Obama Goes To Washington." Barry is gona be played by a digitalized Jimmy Stewart.

And to let you all know...I got really pissed off when one of the posters called me "Creepy." I want to be considered to be the "Creepiest" of them all and not just plain old ordinary "creepy."

I wonder if Bama is gona come off better than GW at talkin. Bama comes off as a stutterin fool, "AHHH, it it it it is is is is highly unlike that ahhh we, we, we are going to be able to ahhh handle that crisis...ahhh without the, the, the... help of a coaltion of nations. YES WE CAN!"

I thought that David Remick is really a delightfull guy....that means that for once he had something usefull to say...and a little drum roll please.....That the GW admin was largely anti-intellectual in nature. or to put it in GW language, "Aw your talkin about them hard thoughts again."

When your on the campaign trail, ya can talk all the shit you want. But the day your elected you become an ADULT, cause now ya got the weight/welfare of 300M American lives to look after. Obama "yes we can" is going to be we'll get around to it when we can. The new boss is the the same as the old boss.

"Chris, I agree, we all have it right on our Blackberry"

Yes, sarcasm is great but any decent political analyst should be aware of the most famous attempted coup in the history of the western world and not confuse the annual celebration of it's failure with something utterly unrelated. Honestly!
