Hmm - that was great - i applaud the use of the media - didn't mccain suport a bill that limitied the use of media a few days before an election? bravo - to the campaign.

"Wow! This was on a lot of TV screens, huh?", .."How much did it cost?", .."What are Obama's worried about? (They hope they don't lose)" .."What is McCain's reactions? (He keeps campaigning)" ..Are there "snipings" at McCain's camp? (I heard about some in the papers) .."How about those production values, eh?", .."Obama DID go out in the rain, he wanted to show he's tough", ..Well, Thank you, Jim Rutenberg, It's been great having you here! .. (Remember folks, there is an election next week!)

I have to say that I am astounded, Charlie at what an intellectual coward you are.

You simply interview those who support your ideology outright, or those who you want to attack who do not share your ideology.

You need a navel check, my friend.

    4. Lance Dugger  10/30/2008 01:39 PM Report

Geez, you guys just won't give up. You're digging up guys to opine on this race that haven't ever been heard of, or better yet shouldn't have ever been heard of. The only opinions that matter now are the ones to be delivered in the voting booth on Nov.4. Praise the Lord, maybe then we'll all get a break from the constant media hyperbole.

    5. TABS  10/30/2008 05:44 AM Report

Here is a GEM for Obama. Every advisor you have is going to have an ideological bias that is going to colour their opinion. The trick is to know their bias before hand and discount it. In all actuality if one thinks about it, one will allready know what their advisors opinion is going to be. Here the idea is that the reasoning why one comes to their conclusion is more important than their actual opinion. For it is there that one might find something that one has not taken into account.

    6. TABS  10/30/2008 05:37 AM Report

With regards to Tavis and Matt Dowd...Yeah right...Matt got it wrong about Nixon. Nixon was defeated by JFK in 1960 and ran for Govenator of CA in 1962 and was defeated by Pat Brown SR. After his defeat Nixon said, "You won't have Dick Nixon to kick around anymore!" From 62 to 68 Tricky Dickie was out campaigning for every Republican in America, building up a backlog of favors and goodwill. 1964 was impossible for Nixon as Goldwater had a lock on the Republican nomination. So get the facts straight MATT, or you lose points.

    7. Mary J.  10/30/2008 05:20 AM Report

Travis Smiley already declared OBAMA the winner of the American Presidency and invited this person Matthew Dowd, the so-called Bush strategist, to his show tonight.

Why would anyone trust this DOWD when he did not stop chewing something in his mouth? And the way he spoke of Sarah Palin was simply bad-mouthing, calling her to go back to Alaska and not think of election in 8 years, not 4 years.

Inasmuch as we should learn from an enemy, Travis is playing the reverse psychology. He was interviewed by Jon Friedman and said his chance of interviewing OBAMA was slim to nothing, slim meant out of town.

It's all about the Black Race, here this performance from Travis tonight is class act. The next tv program tonite wass a good variety from CharlieRose Show. Thank you.

It's so upsetting to watch the flip-flops of politicians. Dowd is not much of a strategist. Travis is already a flip-flop twistNturn.

Jim Rutenberg's appearance on Charlie Rose Show is a real pro!! His reporting style and substance are well-balanced and a pleasure to watch !!! I vote Jim a good journalist, in this seachange of American Journalism.

    9. TABS  10/30/2008 04:42 AM Report

Obama thinks this is a rich nation and we can have our cake and eat it to. That is basically the same mind set that has been in play since LBJ took the Social Security Trust fund and placed it in the General Accounts to help hide the deficit spending, that has been going on for 40 years. Now there is apx 45 TRILLION USD that the USA government has in unfunded liabilities that has to be covered. Someone is gona have to pay the BOOMERS SS. So where is all this new money gona come from to start new programs such as Health Care and Renewable Energy and Education. Sorry folks this is a dog that just don't hunt.

    10. Neil MacCallister  10/30/2008 02:30 AM Report

Isn't Sen. Obama acting the bigot? ..As he refuses to let Sen. McCain share the sidewalk, in peace?

Are we really "inclusive" now? Really able to look another person in the eye, and speak honestly to them? Why can't Sen. Obama look Sen. McCain in the eye, and speak to him? Sen. Obama still waves John McCain off with a sneer and a name-calling: "He's a Bush", .."He's a Bush", .."You don't want this out-of-touch old man", .."He's a Bush!" .."Look over there", .."See him?" .."He's a Bush!" And I thought Sen. Obama "dreamed of Change", but I see he doesn't act it. When he passes McCain on the sidewalk of American concerns, he can't look at him, he can't bring himself to say his name. In Barack's eyes, John is less than whole, less than 2/3's of a person, he's .."just a bush!"

    11. GW  10/30/2008 12:44 AM Report

Charlie, you might not have noticed , but Obama was interviewed by Charlie Gibson today, will be interviewed by Wolf Blitzer on Friday and has been on many morning and evening news shows.

Your statement that Obama has not given many interviews is misleading and I hope you retract it.

    12. sock puppet  10/29/2008 11:56 PM Report

Obama is going to campaign in FL with Clinton. With hind sight and the financial collapse, associating with Clinton is less than astute. Clinton and his Citigroup et al cronies are having as much of an affect on America - and ultimately our security - as Bin Laden and al Qaeda. The Commodity Funds Modernization Act 2000. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ Under the Commodity Funds Modernization Act 2000, which was part of a 262 page amendment to an even larger appropriations bill, the Shad-Johnson Jurisdiction Accord of 1982 was repealed. This act also had the effect of excluding regulation on exempt commodities by the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________ Empires expire by economic assault more than by armed assault. Obama is shooting himself in the foot - with me anyway. Which is ok. Already voted for Nader.

    13. RE Mant  10/29/2008 11:48 PM Report

Mr Obama I suppose is expecting Congress to give him a line-item veto. Since entertainment stocks tanked in the Depression, I suppose part of his strategy is to give the media a little stimulus pkg of his own. He may need them. But both party's economic programs, if they even deserve that name, consist in giving money and rights to debtors thus further subverting the credit system, already reeling from the ill-advised investment made possible by previous inflation and trade and budget deficits. This was done in the 20's and 30's in exactly the same way, and we are all familiar with the result. Anyone voting for either candidate is as irresponsible and culpable as any adjustable rate mortgage lender or borrower, and should expect the same outcome. Beyond that they should know that far from being charitable, every such action makes worse the position of the poor around the globe.
