Republicans semmed to like it... Sort of.

This movie had the good old fashioned, kickass Olly Stone character arc and a career defining performance from Brolin.

Stone's style has mellowed out though. I'd like to see another colab with Robert Richardson in the future. Thanks for the interview Charlie.

    3. Linus  11/06/2008 08:55 AM Report

Its sad to think that pouring any more hate at this President is going to make the liberal left feel any better.

Oliver Stone is a detriment to any sense of historical accuracy. He knows like many, that a large majority of people take their news and facts from the popular, entertainment media, which is biased to the left. George Bush is not the monster you want him to be. He is just a man that felt it was his responsibility as president to protect the nation, at all costs- and he did that for the 7 years after 911. He may be hated, but I believe there are a good number of people that owe their lives and safety to this man you despise. History will forget the ankle-bitting haters, but we may find in the next 4 years that W wasn't all that bad.

    4. Preston  10/26/2008 10:25 AM Report

Linus, you're not telling them what they want to hear. Shame on you... Bad Table! BAD!

    5. Kaptainess  10/25/2008 04:22 AM Report

Welp, seems that those that are Republicians can take one last look around the White House while they pack up. I don't think they will see the inside of it as residents for a very long time, if ever. There is a problem with the trickle down economy, the cake crumbs that were to trickle down to the middle class didn't happen. Thank God there is now outrage within the middle class sector, it took a great deal of suffering for them to finally realize that they were being s*rewed out of their homes, cars, pensions, and those fat cats on Wall Street was even taking those few remaining crumbs off their dinner plate. Think of it, its even hard to feed our families now. No raise in pay while those fat cats can get 16 million for 6 weeks of work? Its not normal for anyone to get that kind of money when the average worker hasn't seen a decent pay raise in years.

I honestly feel that this election has diverted a revolution in the USA, I don't like either man that is running, but the best man will win this time for the sake of us all. I hope that in the future that Americans will not be frightend into being submissive and nonvocal, we should have stood up and fought back long ago.

As for the lost of jobs and low wages we should bring back the mission of buying what is made in America. We have all the safeguards for foods, drugs and other products that China doesn't seem to abide by and the real danger is that one day those products may kill thousands of people. And I guess that what it will take?

    6. Preston  10/22/2008 06:57 AM Report

sock puppet I suspect you had something to do with ERASING my REVIEW of this movie. Please tell me the truth.

    7. sock puppet  10/21/2008 10:10 PM Report

Such an overweened bunch of neocons need to be reexamined: namely what would you depict in your version? ------------------------------------> I repeat: What would a movie re W entail to be considered unbiased for those claiming otherwise? That Iraq was an idyllic democracy? That Iran was in our debt for corralling their neighbor? That the financial community didn't crater under his watch? That Guantanamo didn't exist? That we didn't torture? That our world standing was undiminished? ---------------------------------------------> Considering the negatives Stone had to step over to be even-handed at all was a Herculean achievement. ---------------------------------------> When all you have is crap and a loaf of bread there should be no surprise that you end up with a shit sandwich.

I am with you jerry - this new board is a total dud. At least the old board where you had to register had some intellect, this is just sad.

    9. sock puppet  10/21/2008 09:56 PM Report

      Gina - no.

    10. Preston  10/21/2008 09:43 PM Report

Gina, you have too much sense of humor for these snobs.

    11. Preston  10/21/2008 09:39 PM Report

He wouldn't be so bad, if he wasn't so full of shit and acts like he's the shit.

    12. Preston  10/21/2008 09:37 PM Report

This is his worst movie. Even hokier than Platoon.

    13. Alex M. Thompson  10/21/2008 08:29 PM Report

God love Oliver Stone. He takes so much bullshit from the media and yet he continues to deliver.

    14. Gina  10/21/2008 06:28 PM Report

socky - Thank you for the clariffication. Didn't Hearst name the castle/paradise after the monkey. Like MJ he did have a zoo on the property also.

    15. Gina  10/21/2008 05:34 PM Report

Jerry - We've had some pretty knockdown drag out fight debates on this board. We're taking a break do you mind? A little comic relief is much welcome. Take a load off..(smile)

    16. Preston   10/21/2008 05:15 PM Report

      Why I awdah!...

    17. Preston  10/21/2008 05:11 PM Report

      HEY!... HEY! HEY! HEY!

    18. Jerry  10/21/2008 03:39 PM Report

It's tiresome to see the same old names making their same sad comments.

    19. Preston  10/21/2008 02:33 PM Report

No, I'm not psychotic. I was pushing buttons and things weren't happening.

    20. sock puppet  10/21/2008 02:32 PM Report

Preston - keep trying. You'll find your stride.

    21. Preston  10/21/2008 02:29 PM Report

I wonder if Oliver Stone knows how much, he really is, just like Nixon?

    22. sock puppet  10/21/2008 02:28 PM Report

ERN - your condescension demonstrates you (or should I say ERN?) are aware of the calibre of the intellect you are dealing with. Therefore oblique references (Colonel Kurtz?) are a waste. Never heard of 'im - and hell not even embarrassed by that stark realism. So dumb-down when you address the sock (which sounds much more psychotically self-centric than a plain old "me").

    23. Preston  10/21/2008 02:28 PM Report

I wonder if Oliver Stone knows how much, he really is, just like Nixon?

      Richard Dreyfus!? As Dick Cheney!?

    26. Preston  10/21/2008 02:16 PM Report

Why was I erased? Who's going to warn the people how much this movie is a fecal-matter sandwich? BEFORE they waste their money! On a fecal-matter for brains kind-of-a-guy! Oliver Stoned on Acid!... THE MUSIC SUCKS! HE'S AN ASSH*LE!!!

    27. TABS  10/21/2008 02:07 PM Report

The use of the 2ND person TABS is not a function of ego. It is a mechanical device to avoid using the first person "I" of ego centric opinion. Further if one is able to dissect motivation and behavior which are subjective qualities, one is also able to blur the lines between reality and fiction to create illusion. The problem with using Colonel Kurtz is that he is too high of a profile of a character to effectively carry out the ruse. Perhaps that is why Kurtz was used, to make it very clear that it was parody. When it was unclear whether Mr Sock got the joke, that is why the call for help for Mr Sock was called for.

    28. sock puppet  10/21/2008 02:02 PM Report

San Simeon is the castle location. San Simian would presumably be a sainted monkey that only you and the effete Mr TABS (darling) seem to be so smugly (laughing up your sleeves) aware of.

    30. Domingo  10/21/2008 11:00 AM Report

Oliver Stone and George Bush went to Yale. Bush graduated but Oliver Stone dropped out twice. Therefore, I would question Oliver Stone's motivation and authority to be objective.

    31. Robert  10/21/2008 10:11 AM Report

In general I prefer to read history written by credited historians. Oliver Stone did not graduate from Yale. He is a very talented director. In my opinion protest art is cheap and shows a lack of imagination. My demand to the artistic community is to create a new world where I get lost from reality. History belongs to historians, credited economists, politicians, newspapers.

    32. Gina  10/21/2008 08:15 AM Report

Yes TABS darling, San Simian was the name of the Randolph Hearst paradise play Richard Dreyfuss as Cheney, hah..I can't see it. George Kennedy would have made a good Cheney. Is he still alive? And right again, Powell did jump the ship. The sinking ship....

    33. ron  10/21/2008 04:50 AM Report

The movie of Bush shows him for what everyone from his own school and uni days thought of him.

      He's a "PRAT"

He's the same Bush in government.

    34. Christopher  10/21/2008 03:19 AM Report

Josh is a great actor. Even in Goonies, he was a good bully brother.

    35. sock puppet  10/21/2008 01:38 AM Report

ERN - Your self aggrandizing self referral of 'TABS' is somewhat disconcerting. Your ego appears bigger than all outdoors. Bigger even than your Beach U. Ahh well, whatever floats your boat, eh?

    36. TABS  10/21/2008 12:45 AM Report

Dear Sock: With regards to TABS's Alma Mater, to be perfectly honest TABS can not remember where it was that he went to college? All that is remembered is that it was down by the beach somewhere? Walking upon the beach there were these back blobs that were thought to be flesh eating aliens, that created such a panic that TABS can assure you that he never ventured upon that beach again! After about 7 years of assiduous matriculation TABS's faculty advisor sat him down one day and said, "Mr TABS you have been attending our institution for 7 years now, and we have had quiet enough of you, congratulations you have graduated, pick up your diploma, leave campus, never come back, and never and I repeat never mention that you attended this college." So he did.

    37. TABS  10/21/2008 12:04 AM Report

Dear Sock: The good colonel never uttered the words,"Drop the bomb, exterminate them all." He left them as written instructions to Captain Willard to be read after his death. That was the beauty of using that quote. Now perhaps I can interest you in another military figure, Major(R)Bartholomew Guano, who latter went on to a successful career with the Coca Cola company. It seems that Major Guano became VP for Coca Cola in charge of the vending machine business on US military bases.

    38. sock puppet  10/20/2008 06:31 PM Report

TABS cum ERN as in Erudite Red Neck. Assistance to me for your Iraqi statement would be woefully misplaced. --------------> Hearsts castle? Phonetically only. Otherwise spot on for one that seems so impressed with his education (Google U grad?). Referring to your alma mater re some colonel right out of your curriculum?

    39. steve  10/20/2008 03:03 PM Report

I only caught the end of this show, but I was impressed by Mr Brolin and Mr Stone, and their discussion on W's need to be better than his Dad, and that is what lead us to the war, etc. I was also moved to hear them say W's aggressive stance on the war goes against what a true christian would do. If the religious right doesn't wake up to that wisdom, then they will never wake up. Now I HAVE to see this movie. Great show Chuck!

    40. MotherLodeBeth  10/20/2008 02:23 PM Report

'W' was not the 'fun' movie I expected, but sadly came off as mean to me, alas very much an Oliver Stone movie. And I think having liberal actors in all the roles showed the movie wasnt meant to be fair. I am a Libertarian and happy General Powell came out for Obama on Meet the Press. And think his comments about the young AMERICAN born Muslim from NJ who died for this country are words EVERY American should read over and over and NEVER forget. Powell is the FIRST American in a leadership role who has spoken out so PLAINLY and said what needed to be said. McCain failed on this when he told that woman that No Obama isnt an Arab/Muslim. What he should have said General Powell said instead, and that speaks volumes with me.

    41. TABS  10/20/2008 01:45 PM Report

Dear Preston: Colin Powell's defection to the Obama camp, gives cover for moderate Republicans to ditch the ship.

    42. TABS  10/20/2008 01:42 PM Report

Quiet frankly this whole Comment section on the movie "W" has been worthless as regards to the stated purpose of commenting on the movie "W". It has been destroyed by the likes of TABS. Perhaps it has sunk beneath the waves because Oliver Stone has a penchant for turning grand concepts into trite melodramas. In that case the descent of this Comment thread has gone where is deserves to be. Not to be taken seriously for its stated purpose.

    43. TABS  10/20/2008 01:32 PM Report

"sand simians."...Sock Puppet.................Wasn't that where Hearst built his castle?

    44. Preston  10/20/2008 06:37 AM Report

General Colin Powell thinks alot like me. His concerns about McCain are truly valid ones; exactly the same as mine. What he likes about Obama-nation is what I like. If he trusts Obama's judgment, that MIGHT be good enough for me.------------ Also, I agree with TABS, I BELIEVE Obama has the potential intelligence and judgment to IGNORE and thumb his nose at the typical STUPIDITY of the Democratic party. And maybe, perhaps give all YOU limousine liberals the sound spanking that you all SAY that you want.... A year from now, I can see the little bitches coming out of the wood work.

    45. TABS  10/20/2008 02:51 AM Report

Dear Sock:...No one has come to your aid with regards to TABS's Iraqi statement. Perhaps you should Google Colonel Walter Kurtz and you might just learn something...........

    46. TT  10/20/2008 12:01 AM Report

I found Brolin to be both an egomaniac and very condescending in his comments on the show last week. Come on -- watching videos of rats to understand the President's actions -- absolutely ludicrous. And Charlie went along with it all -- even praising Brolin for his intellect! Charlie, I love your show -- but that was a weak performance Friday. Poor segment all the way around.

    47. sock puppet  10/19/2008 06:21 PM Report

ERUDITE CRIMSON-NECK - Ranking presidents as suggested by the number of "needlessly" killed is (still) valid for me. Vietnam tops Iraq and their respective Commanders-in-Chiefs (but he's got a few months to go). Both nonwhite which makes them neither jungle nor sand simians. For W to achieve mediocrity will require some herculean feats, elstwise he'll remain GAAWWD AAAWFUL!

    48. TABS  10/19/2008 06:18 PM Report

The question for Mr Obama is...Do you have the DISCIPLE to be able to over ride your intellectual ideology and take a step to the right or left to govern effectivily. It is possible to discount your ideology and move either to the left or right if one chooses. One must take a step back and understand what ones biases are, and why they exist. With that understanding one can moderate their decisions according to circumstances.

    49. TABS  10/19/2008 03:50 PM Report

YA DON"T SEE IT DO YA CHARLIE:..............................................................The voices of the mass media that serve as information dissemination vehicles don't see it coming! The victims are usually the last ones to understand what is going to happen.

      ..................................................................................................... .................................................................

Colin Powell endorses Obama...Hmmm time to look to the future people. Well here it is...America is about to elect it's FIRST REVOLUTIONARY as President since Thomas Jefferson. Monroe and Madison while Revolutionary War patriots helped draft and adopt the Constitution while Jefferson was not part of that debate in person. Jefferson was Ambassador to France and was out of the country at the time. Jefferson if one recalls was a STRICT CONSTRUCTIONIST but in all practicality turned about face on his own ideology and bought the Louisiana Purchase as he saw it was in the best interest of the country.

      ..................................................................................................... .................................................................

How does this all apply to the Revolutionary Obama. Mr Obama has genuine empathy for the poor and average Joe of America. Mr Obama is a practitioner of the possible. Mr Obama will take one piece at a time and consolidate his position. Mr Obama will very rarely ever over reach if he thinks the odds are against him. Mr Obama is a very calculating individual. As such he will find that their are people in his own party that have "Special Interests" that are not interested in the "taxpayers". At that time a President Obama will do an about face on his own ideology and will PURGE his own party. That is the way of Revolutions, from the French to the Russian to the German Revolution of the 30's to China of the 60's work.

      ..................................................................................................... ................................................................

What this all means is that if you are a Multi-Millionaire Liberal Democrat ya better be lookin for a place to run to, cause your on the list. It would not surprise this author if Mr Obama doesn't already have that idea in the back of his mind. After all Mr Obama does say he wants to do the peoples business and CHANGE THE WAY WASHINGTON DOES BUSINESS. Yep a secular version of Oliver Cromwell and his Round Head populist revolution is on its way.

      ..................................................................................................... ...............................................................

BTW: This little missive is NOT a partisan rant. It is merely TABS the Fakir gazing into the crystal ball of future events. It does not mean it is going to happen but if nothing else it would be wise to send up the red flag storm warnings and watch for the signs of an Obama purge on the horizon.

    50. TABS  10/19/2008 03:15 PM Report

Dear Gina: McArthur exceeded his orders and used force in breaking up the Bonus Marchers camp in DC. It seems that McArthur marched to his own drum beat and ignored his own commanders instructions when it didn't suit his conceptions. That is until he met ole Harry from Missouri.
