How is it possible that when the candidates are ask a specific question about "what if you were elected president you do about....." that when there answer start out with a comment like "over the last five years" that the listening audience already knows they are not going to get an answer to the quetion asked. Do you feel they do realize we are fed up with the non answers or do you think they just don't care?

    2. Nancy 10/08/2008 09:27 AM Report

I am concerned that McCain is in the beginning stages of demmentia. This is not a critism, he seemed to constantly refer to the PAST as if those were the "good ole days" almost every answers refers back to another time, another president, another war. I get the impression that he is less and less in the here and now. Can a DR. give a comment on this before the election?

    3. Zach 10/07/2008 10:25 PM Report

I just have one thing to say about the presidential debate. Why do you have to bash each other and not work with each other to make it a better place to live. This has made the American people stop living there lives and are in a panic. We need some a positive reinforcement's to the American people that it is going to get better.

Hope we hear something new tonight.I build biodiesel processors which turn waste vegetable oil into biodiesel. Algae biodiesel looks even more promising. We need someone to help implement change. As the other poster said, we just need to keep moving in the right direction.

Sally - Decent protocol would apologize for a glitch or accidental scrubbing or other technical loss. When its censorship do you just hit and run and hope the notoriety and protestations will be contained for the most part?

    6. sally 10/01/2008 09:38 PM Report

Since all the comments are gone, is it not fair to say it was a technical glitch rather than censorship?

Not all of Obama's views and policies are in agreement with mine. I would be very very surprised if I agreed %100 with any politician but overall Obama impresses me enough to trust him. McCain for all of his maverick/straight shooter talk has no credibility with me! His views at times change not in the "evolution", "as things change" your views adapt but in the politico smarmy way. I just do not trust him!!

    7. Gina 10/01/2008 05:15 PM Report

It is possible that it is a true glitch...

    8. Gina 10/01/2008 05:13 PM Report

Well it is clear the discussion has been pulled. My last comment was on September 29th and I returned to find the entire show pulled and all of its comments from that date. Censorship might be a strong word I don't know, but If indeed it was censorship, then my time and opinions exressed here in which I have enjoyed posting ever since this new forum design began over a year or so ago. It would be a disappointment and I do not like wasting my time. No one likes being invited to feel free to openly express your opinions and then have them usurped, erased like chalk on a board. I am in hopes that all of this is an oversight and the show and all of its diverse opinions will be returned to their rightful place for everyone to enjoy. Diversity is a good thing.

    9. Ali Durand 10/01/2008 03:48 PM Report

Here are some thoughts to add to the discussion.

Senator Obama mentioned the new Century and how it is evolving with new thinking. The youth of this country are more excepting, see color/race differently, grew up with Mr. Rodgers and Sesame Street. They have better skills at working things out together. The new century ideals are for diplomacy. Let's give Senator Obama credit for inclusive views. I like that Senator Obama showed he did agree first, then state what he thought differently. I do not recall Senator McCain ever agreeing with Senator Obama. Seems hard to find any common ground from Senator McCain's perspective. In this age of atomic warfare we need to think beyond war, bombs, killing. I believe no one wins when people die. When I think of all the deaths on both sides, our children, the Iraq's innocent in the wrong place, homeless, displaced, disabled, mentally disturbed, I am left deeply troubled. It is hard to be proud of being American with GWBush policies. I think this country is desperately wanting, yearning to take the leap Senator Obama represents.

I had hoped more would be said about Senator McCain body language during the debated. This is a man who brags about reaching across party lines, but made some comment about how Senator Obama was too far to the left to reach. His condescending, frosty, attacking stance, with lack of diplomacy, charm, disagreeable attitude, unable to make eye contact, None of this came off as a mature person. It makes me wonder if this man should represent this country in any capacity. It places doubt on his skill at diplomacy, peacekeeper, leader throughout the world. Seen like cowboy mentality, 'Shoot first, ask questions later.' More likely to start war than end one, fight before using peaceful means.

I would like to see a request to those on wall st who made/make millions to step up and reinvest their personal earnings to help in this crisis.

      censorship/technical glitch test.

i am about to make my daily bowl of cereal and sit down and watch.

here's a link to my blog - it's kind of an ongoing overall indirect comment on everything- i posted one of your comments on it for a while: www.istilljustwant.wordpress.com

but then removed it (not because i didn't like it)

    11. irish 09/30/2008 11:56 PM Report

I enjoyed this show - a nice mix of people and thought, though, as usual, you need more women.

    12. Habibuddin Ahmed 09/30/2008 07:14 PM Report

I have to say that you created this discussion with a solid group of reporters and commentators, as always. A special note on Dorris Kearns who put Obama's response on Iraq war in correct perspective when he told directly on surge: "John, you think this war started in 2007 when surge began, you forget that the war began in 2003". The war was a strategic error from the beginning and Obama pointed to bad judgments applied right from the beginning. I thoroughly enjoyed all discussion.

    13. Christopher 09/30/2008 05:01 PM Report

Marc Halprin, the accurate scorekeeper, correctly assessed that Obama had to prove that he could debate at a presidential level and he did. MaCain had more to do since he was behind in the polls. Obama's best line was the "Iraq 2007" line he used to diffuse the "success" of the surge. Obama simply put the "surge" into context. Clearly, he's been coming on Charlie Rose for the past few years and he has consistently gotten it right.

    14. sock puppet 09/29/2008 09:22 PM Report

Is it something I said? Where'd all the comments go? Pray tell us this is not a form of censorship under the guise of a technical glitch!
