I confess, I can't hold it in anymore, I have to let it out<br>Is Al Hunt trying to out do Donald Trump for the worst male hair style award? :)

(I'm bug-eyed)... Is that really you Hillary?... Or just another very mean-spirited, spiteful rich white woman Hillary wanna-be.?... Hmmh!

    3. to pizzaman81 from Me  08/28/2008 01:34 PM Report

the answer to your question re Hillary - is that she and Bill are the most powerful Democrats in the party by virtue of their brilliance and their SUCCESS. The rest of them, including the media, know that they run a slow second or worse. So basically what you have is what we stereotypically blame France for - being ungrateful when we help them out and resentful at our superior power. Thus they all look to Bill and Hillary to save their asses while resenting the hell out of them for it. Hillary and Bill made this convention - and gave Obama all they had even though he sure didnt deserve it after his behavior. I hope he wins and makes their effort worth it.

    4. Preston  08/28/2008 08:00 AM Report

Pizzaman, Hillary is responsible, because behind all her BS rhetoric to maintain her "Hillary the Great" position as a professional Democrat, she is a very mean-spirited, spiteful rich white woman.

    5. pizzaman81  08/28/2008 03:37 AM Report

I love Charlie Rose, but I think his media friends are out of touch and drinking too much Obama kool aid. If Obama loses why would Hillary be responsible or race play a role? Obama got his nomination and it's his battle to lose at this point. If he can't win with his silver tongue and campaign contributions, the youth vote, the black vote, then he doesn't deserve to be president. Secondly, if Obama were a white person with his qualifications, would we even be talking about this candidacy?

    6. Preston  08/27/2008 10:13 PM Report

Yes, their options are limited to what they say. An unfortunate consequence of profit motivated commercial driven mass marketing advertisers of the new millennium catering to the cynical heathens of the secular world of the legally sane underbelly jelly roll tootsie pop... Says the infinitely wise, Tom Brokaw.

    7. Amy  08/27/2008 08:52 PM Report

Cindy - While I agree with much of what you say, a candidate has to reduce his or her economic and foreign policy plans, into sound bites that can be articulated by a talking parrot. That's the level the electronic media deals in and unfortunately, that's how a candidate's platform needs to be presented.

    8. Preston  08/27/2008 07:34 PM Report

LOL, could it be, the Democrats philosophy, is, if you would just give the bum standing in front of 7-11 a pat on the back, he could rise up to a position, to give you a job. If everybody would just start doing that, the economy and employment problem would be fixed, FOREVER!... And their philosophy on foreign matters, - just pretend they weren't wrong. Tuh-Duhhh!

    9. Cindy  08/27/2008 07:10 PM Report

I thought that everything that Ron Walters discussed was fascinating and I would love to see him solo on your program for a full hour discussing the race aspect of this election. His observation that it is odd that there is such insistance that Obama needs to clarify his economic plan, when in his own research he was able to find 142 distinct examples during a year of speeches, made it pretty clear that there is something interesting going on below that surface here. Of late, it seems that there is something like a pack mentality or concensus view emerging amongst television commentators that seems to dominate lines of thinking (whether they be based in reality or not) while new or contradictory ideas are either brushed off or ignored completely. I watched in horror as you and your other panelists did just that on two ocassions when Professor Walters voiced his ideas last night.

    10. Monk  08/27/2008 06:26 PM Report

Interesting to watch but i gotta say that all the woman covering the race are getting a bit annoying reiterating over and over again the reasons why miss Clinton has problems in dealing with the obama campaign.

Two months ago there were apparently a lot of "womanly things" that had to be dealt with in the clinton base/campaign. Well its been 2 months get over it and move on. Seeing the aggressie and somewhat dirty campaign miss Clinton ran i think its rather ironic that she can dish out like the best of em but not take it because all off a sudden it´s convenient that a woman was running as a nominee. As a non american it is kind of scary that this ridiculous stuff might be the thint that gets us another 4 years like the bush administration. It´s plitics and she knew what she was getting into dammit!

    11. Neil MacCallister  08/27/2008 06:01 PM Report

Last night, racism continued as the only explanation the CharlieRose group sees to not ‘VoteObama’. Were you to allow yourselves a greater freedom of vision, you might find those many voters who simply do not accept Sen. Obama’s behavior.

Your RoundTable panelists still insist that the only votes not being given to Obama, are the votes of racists. That is a very narrow view, but it seems that pulling you into an actual discussion of Obama’s bad past judgments (Ayers, CAC, Rezko, “damn America”, “no pride”, anthem disrespect, debate refusal, Biden over Hillary, Hawaii over Denver) is like pulling George Bush, kicking and screaming, into a Dixie Chicks’ concert! Are you honorable people so cloistered within the media’s Obama Surge, that you actually can’t see the real, long-historied, Barack Obama?

Perhaps you should leave the camera stages and press booths, and get out and meet America. We are not racists, that was proven in the Primaries! But just show that Harkin photo to someone at the grocery store, and then ask them if they would vote to elect that person President. That might resolve the “mystery” you struggled with last night in trying to understand why Sen. Obama is not 15 pts. ahead, even though America has shown it would love to see an African-American share that leadership voice that they have for so long offered in America.

Keep your eyes on that prize people! Perhaps Sen. Obama will not be that person elected to the Presidency, but very soon, another of these very talented Americans will be in the White House.

    12. Preston  08/27/2008 05:44 PM Report

The Democrats are really good at convincing and winning over other Democrats, while putting everybody else to sleep.

Exactly what do the Chinese care if 47 million Americans don't have health care insurance? There are a Billion Chinese that don't have health care insurance. They would tell Americans to save their money if they want health care. Why does what the Chinese think matter to Americans? It is very simple, they hold over a TRILLION USD. How many other foreign governments and investment groups are holding what amounts to Trillions of USD?.................... All they have to do is deem that the USA can't afford a health care program, or a put a windfall profit tax on oil companies or some other such tom foolery. They could then either start dumping USD, cut off their investment in US Treasuries or the investment in US business as being too risky because the credit rating of the USA has just dropped below what they deem as being a safe investment. Exactly how long would a President Obama program last under those circumstances? That is exactly why the rhetoric of the Democratic Party is too ludicrous to contemplate. The day that America is the sole master of its own destiny is passing before our very eyes............... Foreign nations and investment groups don't give one wit about the American standard of living, all they care about is return on investment.

    14. Amy   08/27/2008 04:53 AM Report

One of the reasons for Obama's drop in the polls, may be because, unlike during the primaries, when he was able to get a lot of coverage for an entire speech, week after week, has all of that free air time to deliver his message. While an Obama speech may be a beautiful and inspiring thing, they are complex and they take air time, that is no longer there. Where he doesn't do as well, is crafting easily digestible sound bites that resonate with voters. Except for the slogan "Change We Can Believe In”, there is no easy hook to grab onto. For better worse, general elections are covered in an entirely different way from primaries, and so far at least, not in a way that benefits Obama. .... It's not that Obama doesn't have a sound economic plan, it's that the media don't focus so much on issues as they do drama and polls. Who's up, who's down who's dissing whom, who is more patriotic, etc. .... Without a catchy phrase that defines his plans for the future, he's kinda sunk. There’s a reason why presidential candidates spew bromides, such as “A chicken in every pot". They usually work.

TABS the fakir...Crystal ball readings, palm reading, Tea leafs read, Tarot cards played, Ouija Boarding, Astronomy and head bump readings(phrenology)...................................It does seem that Obama is having a spot of trouble getting the big donors to step up to the plate and bundle, per a NYT article 8/26/08................................What Is Hillary To Do....................... 06/05/2008 - 01:40 — tabs........................................ Hillary got A LOT of money from her Wall Street Buds...the Dem leadership realized this and not to aleinate them allowed Hillary's campaign to run its course. As a sop to the Wall Street boyz the Dem leadership may require Obama to select Hillary as a CHECKMATE on Obama's agenda of change. The wall street Boyz like things the way they are, and don't want money taken out of their pockets. So it is a matter of how much does Obama wana be prez, as in if he doesn't take Hill then those BOyz will pony up the dinero in the Billions to McCAin.

That is not to say they wouldn't give the Billions to McCain anyway, cause anything that gets in the way of making money they ain't for....but it will be more Billions if Hill ain't on the ticket as insurance of keeping Obama in line. Those wall street boyz do like to cover there bums with a little insurance.

However the left wing nutz in the Dem party have their boy in play and may reject the Wall Street crowd.

Hillary has ambitions of being prez, she is 62.

If Bama wins he is the automatic nominee of the Party in 2012, and Hill almost with a certainty could not run against him if she were the Veeeep.

So the next time she can run is in 2016, when she is 70, and will be considered to be a grand ma candidate.

Hillary best political bet is to say I like Obama and go home hoping for him to be soundly defeated. Then in 2012 she can run again for prez saying to the Dems I told you he couldn't win. She will be 66..which is not to old...

Obama for his part would not want Hill or Bill anywhere near the WH as it would be seen as usurping his sunlight. Hill and Bill would be sent to the Antarctic on a fact finding mission about global warming for 4 years.

So why would Hill want or accept the Veep job?????

Hill best bet for her own ambition is to have her campaign debt taken care of by the DNC and become the NEW LION in the Senate as Senate Majority leader....

Tedy Kennedy for all intents and purposes is on his way out...the Lion has lost his teeth. While he may still be around for awhile a new GO TO PERSON is going to emerge in the Senate to get things done. It is for Hillary a job made to order for her talent as a bringer togetherer.

Geeezus Mr Rose several members of your panel are out to lunch in that they, to quote Joe Biden's comment to Peter Jennings the week of 911. "don't get it" ..................The comments in question are that GW Bush didn't ask the American people to make a sacrifice after 911. What your commentators "don't get" is the fact that the US and world was facing a crisis of liquidity the week of 911. The US consumer represents 66% of the US economy and when people are scared they don't spend money. THUS NO ECONOMY. If this wasn't true why did the Fed reduce the overnight lending rate 7 times to 1%, GM go to 0% financing and the FED lend $80,000,000,000.00 to European Banks the week of 911 to keep them liquid. All of this was to re-instill confidence in the financial systems and prevent a run on the bank due to panic. So the last thing GW Bush would do is ask for a sacrifice which would indicate a dire circumstance that could induce further panic. So please lets get this straight......Also BTW military action was required to re-instill confidence through out the world that the US still had what it took to maintain its own security. Otherwise their would have been a disintegration of both financial markets and global security.

For the potential that might have been discussed after Hillary Clinton's outstanding speech, this show was an alarming disappointment. The MSM 'fantasy political football' narratives are old, tired, and fictitious. It seems no one has pointed the obvious out to Mr. Rose, Mr. Hunt, Mr. Halperin, Ms. Goodwin, or, especially, the politically myopic Mr. Brooks. This show used to be worth staying up for...

    18. TABS  08/27/2008 01:47 AM Report

Obama and the Dems should be very careful of what they wish for, they just might get it. What they wished for and got might also include the law of unintended consequences. President Obama and a Democratically controlled Congress will get whatever social and business legislation they desire. However the leash on them might be pulled very tight in a vote of no confidence by foreign investors of capital in the USA. What if one day Americans wake up and find NO Foreigners are buying our Treasury Bonds or investing in the US stock market? Say Hello, President Obama to the days of Jimmy Carter and 16% interest rates.

    19. TABS  08/27/2008 12:57 AM Report

Hillarys speech had more fire in the belly than anything so far at the Democratic convention. A very workman like speech with some very deft allusions. Where was this Hillary 6 months ago? She is going to leave a lasting impression going forward, she covered her obligation to Obama and the Dem Party. That said she did 2 things, one was hand off the success or failure of the Dem Party to Obama as the standard bearer. In doing that she washed her hands of it. Secondly Hillary told her supporters we need to defeat the Republicans, which is quiet different than saying anything good about Obama and his ability. Very deft indeed!

    20. Linda Sosnowitz  08/27/2008 12:41 AM Report

Please ask the guests to speak more about the effects on the Obama campaign of and its vulnerability to the negative ads (particularly those put out by the Texas GOP), books such as the recent one by Corsi and much of the cable network coverage which is so skewed against Sen. Obama. People who vote believe this stuff -- but the "mainstream" press is not actively repudiating these materials.

I thought the Rose show after the democratic convention Aug 26th, was fantastic. Very "fun" - is that bad? To me, no. I was kept up with the good conversation you all were having. Really enjoyed it and I was enlightened. A noble pursuit.

    22. RE Mant  08/27/2008 12:29 AM Report

Be serious Hilary's speech was full of non-sequitors. Logic is not her strong suit. Actually I thought she was a little manic. Why, btw, would anyone want to vote for Bill Clinton's third term? The problem between Bill and Obama is that Bill patronizes blacks, isn't it? I'd like to believe someone would champion an old-time progressive or populist message, but it has no Democratic roots, and I don't think any of them, Sen Brown and one or two others excepted, understand it at all. What the country needs isn't some "narrative" of change and hope, but a recognition of what the truth is. That's what really ought to separate democrats and republicans and what underlies progressivism. He has, indeed, a plethora of economic proposals, but the candidate hardly ever mentions them, and taken together they are a hodgepodge of stuff that makes no sense at all. In this Obama seems not very different from other Democrats.

DAY TWO:..................................................The PBS news crew are a bunch of old geezers hanging around trading war stories, turgid is the word......That said the Dems Convention sounds like a broken record, one speech after the other reading from the same old script ad nauseum. Did they all drink the same Kool Aid and learn their repetitive chants from an ex follower of Harri Krishna and now Democratic Party strategist. Talk about something new, anything, before I fall asleep again.
