LOL. Hey that's a good one. And thanks for the offer Miss uh-Wiggins, but I already have a honey that isn't finished spending my money. I'm sure you'll find somebody though, there has to be a dating service out there for the mentally challenged; but I don't think it's here at Charlie Rose.com. Good Luck.
Preston 08/28/2008 10:33 PM Report
I'm only rude to snobs of the far left and far right; and in that order. AND, I'd like to see you try and stop me.
booca 08/24/2008 03:49 AM Report
Penelope is genuine and has great screen presence. She has beauty, intelligence, and she's extremely funny too! Love this interview!
Preston 08/23/2008 07:35 AM Report
Yawn, you are a tedious, pretentious IDIOT. Where does it say I don't appreciate Ms Cruz?... AND Why do you give a sh*t what I think? Are you capable of being objective? Or are you just some sheltered, liberal, nut-case professor.
Richard 08/14/2008 02:57 AM Report
I also very much enjoyed this interview, and will go to see the movie. I think Charlie has done his research, makes his guests comfortable and he engages them. This usually results in a good conversation around a table......which is always welcome in my living room. With some of the comments I have read here, these viewers may prefer to watch Chris Matthews on Sunday, or the McLaughlin report to make them feel more at home...
Yonder Preston, Why does he? 08/10/2008 11:53 PM Report
Preston, please stop flooding the comments area with your meaningless commentary. It is full of misspellings, though you behave uppity towards others; and it is all, without exception, childish and vague.
Preston 08/10/2008 05:04 PM Report
Thanks Preston. For seeing it for what it was, that kind of behavior can be rather distracting and annoying. But then again, people can enter these anonymous comments/discussions in all different moods and there's no way of judging body language so it's very easy to misinterpret the written word of what somebody really means. I'm always having to remind myself that.
Preston 08/10/2008 02:13 PM Report
I dont know who you are or why you feel the need to go after me but there is something sick about it and it makes me uncomfortable. If there is a moderator on these boards they should clean this thread out. Get a life buddy, people come here to see the videos and post a comment a two - not engage in chats with anonymous bullies like you who are clearly too old for the behavior. Now eff off - I wont respond to you again,

And another thing Yawny, if you're so bored, maybe you should change your name to "Mrs. uh-Wiggins". Remember her? The Carol Burnett Show. Yeah, you probably have a problem with that too, because it involves humor.
To Sonia 08/09/2008 04:27 PM Report
I agree.

Preston, you are a tedious, pretentious bore. No wonder you wouldn't appreciate Ms Cruz.
Sonia 08/09/2008 01:50 PM Report
I enjoyed this interview a lot and I look forward to watching the film.

farthing taster,
funny how you're so vague, and connect nothing. Speaks volumes about you.
taste the iron - e 08/08/2008 08:30 PM Report
funny how you connect taste and money. Speaks volumes about you. :-P
Preston 08/08/2008 05:13 PM Report
I only saw a few minutes of this interview but was impressed with the lovely, very pretty Latina actress Penelope Cruz (love her accent). I was only familiar with her as being a girlfriend of Tom Cruise, so I didn't think much of her. But the clip of her in the movie looked convincingly real and interesting to me. Also, it appeared that Dennis (the hippie) Hopper, token psycho-guy, has mellowed out a bit in his older age. As my grandmother would say, "Good for him.".
elegiac for integrity 08/08/2008 04:41 PM Report
I thought the interview was a bit over the top myself. I wish Charlie Rose would reserve unabashed praise for real talents such as Daniel Day-Lewis, whom he treated rather coldly in comparison.
Taste 08/08/2008 04:31 PM Report
If your definition of high art leads to Elegy or Cruz, then you haven't a farthing of taste in your body :p
Ms. Skeptical 08/08/2008 04:15 PM Report
I always look forward to the Charlie Rose show, but this one was over the top. Since when are movie stars treated so profoundly and as pundits, and all over a not so interesting sounding film? Please go back to current events and interesting real people, contributing to the enlightening of current events that matter.
Denise Tulloch 08/08/2008 02:04 PM Report
charlie rose falls in love everyday with his guest and what a wonderful feeling to have everyday whether its with an actress, poet, musician,or a politicion,a man or woman. If everyone would do that what a wonderful
universe we would live in.
MTS 08/08/2008 11:22 AM Report
Regarding the fawning over Ms. Cruz, if you have ever seen Charlie interview Salma Hayek then this isn't a surprise. Charlie is only human, after all, and despite being a great journalist he does get flustered by a pretty woman.
yes, U missed something 08/08/2008 11:06 AM Report
in english, they call it "taste". :-P
Worthing 08/08/2008 01:34 AM Report
Loved the bit where Cruz would not divulge whether she discusses her "craft" with Javier or not, as if she had any craft to contemplate. Welcome to the age of pomp & mediocrity!
Worthing 08/08/2008 01:32 AM Report
Is Charlie Rose producing the film? It doesn't look particularly interesting or original, and the acting looks mediocre. Charlie, however, made Penelope Cruz sounds brilliant and the film divine. What gives?
Did I miss something? 08/08/2008 01:28 AM Report
Really surprised at the amount of fawning Charlie indulged in throughout, and more than a bit perplexed at the praise Ms. Cruz was receiving from her co-star, Charlie and the director. I have never understood her appeal- she is mildly talented, mousy, not very captivating on screen, and the clips of Elegy certainly didn't reveal anything beyond the ordinary with this actress. Furthermore, the film doesn't look original at all, and Kingsley is simply horrid in the role with the inadequate accent and grin. I'm really starting to get annoyed by Charlie and his superficial, needless fawning.
sock puppet 08/08/2008 12:58 AM Report
Was this a lot of superficial fluff, or am I just too old to get it? What's the followup say several years after the chic restaurant scene? He stinks and falls asleep in front of the tube. She still feels 'coquettish' and wants to go flirt/socialize/flaunt her sexuality. He wants to flatulate grandly, scratch obscenely and go to bed.-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Is that in the movie, or are they saving that (bit of reality) for the sequel? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------Try this elegy: The man is old,---------She is bold, ------------------ They each will pay, ----------------------------------For that disparity. ------------------------------------------Burma Shave

Of course any such professor should have been removed from the faculty, or not given tenure in the first place, and not for just for his lack of understanding. And the student: what should one think of her? Expect to see something like this in Inspector Morse. But nothing about it is very realistic. There are some faculty like this, but NO students, even, or maybe, esp, GRAD students. More like a fantasy.
is Charlie a movie star? 08/07/2008 06:59 PM Report
I heard Charlie is in the movie.
