      TO: Charlie Rose & Company

Blatantly lacking in your (May 6) and other journalistic discussion of the current presidential campaign is a recognition of the obvious. It doesn't matter what stategy the Democrats use to try to elect Sen. Obama in November, nor how much he rests to recover, nor reorganizes his campaign, nor whether he focuses on "winning" issues, nor how much people crave "change." He cannot win (1) because he is black and (2) his belated move to"disown" Reverend Wright, after the latter's vitriolically racist rmarks. You have to be a naive optimist under these circumstances to believe that, even in our "more enlightened" (early) 21st century, at least 5 to 10 ppercent of the voters will not vote against him simply because he is black and, moreover, appears (if secretly) to avow black supremacy!

From my pro-Democratic perspective, the election campaign now has all the makings of a "Greek tragedy"!

In this day and age, information flows from many sources. And this source was reliable even if his intentions were well-meaning.

"Deep Throat" was a reliable source too.

    3. step 2 - use brain  04/21/2008 07:11 PM Report

Clearly it did to me or I would not have made the comment.

    4. Carol  04/21/2008 06:31 PM Report

Does it matter how the press got the comment?

Absolutely not! It was a condescending comment. And that would have been a better adjective to use than elitist.

On top of that, an articulate man as Obama could not handle heated questions, so let's blame the anchors??? This was not such a great gift for Hillary. After her last blunder, it will take a miracle.

    5. TABS  04/21/2008 04:38 PM Report

This is in repsonse to Obamas critical statement about Americans need to be armed.<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

So long as Americans have the right to bear arms this country will be a Democracy/Republic. Having arms gives one the option to change the political system in the country if the need arises. To defend your liberty as it were. The government can push a lot down Americans throat so long as the people bear arms. People will go to sleep on the government because they know they have the means to change the system. Once arms are eliminated because the government no longer trusts the people, people will no longer feel that they control their destiny and revolt will take place if the government over steps its bounds. So in conclusion one might say that having arms helps keep the political process in the country stable.

    6. step 1 - get clue  04/21/2008 02:52 PM Report

Just a silly question, but do these guys know how Obama's statement got into the public arena? If not, I will clue them in: a supporter of OBAMA gave it to the Huffington Post. Apparently his own supporter thought it wqas newsworthy. So it was only a god-given gift to Clinton if you consider Arianna 'god" and all the press folks who were all over it "god". Which indeed you both may. As usual, I am astonished by the refusal to place responsibility where it belongs.

    7. Dale  04/19/2008 10:14 PM Report

Rose is my hero, a national treasure, a fountain flowing with intellectual Gatoraid in the desert! (But alas, I must reinforce Carol's sentiments: Not seeing--or pointing out--the pathetic nakedness of Obama's arguments is truly disappointing)

    8. Carol  04/19/2008 10:54 AM Report

I love when Michael is on. But once again you both skirted the issue on Obama and made ABC news out to be the villain because Obama did not win that debate. The truth is that his words were hurtful to middle class voters of that region, even if you and Michael say otherwise. And yes, it was a boom for Hillary. But you have a habit of hiding issues under the carpet when it comes to Obama because he did know that Wright had deep-seeded racist issues that were reflected early in his campaign, and ABC News wasn't afraid to bring that to light. And ABC News got Obama to admit that he would raise taxes on the middle class more than Hillary would. (and I am no fan of Hillary either, but as a Democrat will vote for the party's nominee) And you failed to discuss how this campaign has effected your colleague Travis Smiley because he doesn't support Obama. btw Charlie, do you actually read these comments?
