I am sick & tired of the Republican "Handicap& Sympathetic Ticket. The can attack with hog pen gutter tactics, but Obama can't?? When she is confronted by men of other countries, they will not as one would say.." treat her like a lady. I suggest that Palin's name would leave the lips of the democrats. Just say...McCain & his running mate. Don't even mention her name, it only makes more popular, but say on Bush/McCain/Chaney. I would like to see Obama and Susan Rice to campaign together, and she can say what ever she wants, even challenge her. Biden, needs to be the pit bull for Obama, but if he can't without them saying sexiam, then send a strong woman with Biden to attack Palin. Use more women to get rid of this sexism thing. Barack to stay on issues, & forget about Palin. Continue with the theme of "Change", but add restore, in that, Change this or that, but restore the broken white house to a place back to " of the people, by the people, and for the people; restore integrity, and restore America's respect, as a light on a hill for all other countries to see; restore the American dream, Restore ways for education, for the children are our future, there are scientists, doctors, out there. This wrong war has put us in a "hostage" situation, & we did it to ourselves. Who has had a war with a country, and spend money to fix it back up, and train them how to fight?? we are not fighting the Araq people, so the war has been over. We can't expect to take over another country. I know what Bush wants, but we left Iraq vulnerable to terrorists. No one will ever be able to get rid of terrorist, they have been here since the beginning of time. Fixing up their infra structure, while ours go to the dogs. This war was wrong, and its has fanned the flames as Obama said, everybody seems to be flexing their muscles, and now we have a mess, because the Mission is Accomplished....for this was a war of Vendetta by Bush. There is really nothing to win, but we have lost over 4,000 men. lost money, lost respect of other countries, etc.

Axelrove can be effective. He's especially good at character assassination, dodging issues, and manipulating the media. He's done more to reduce this race to a gutter fight than any other operative. He is without doubt the Democratic version of Lee Atwater.

Fortunately, though, voters aren't as completely manipulable as the Obama campaign would have them. The media, on the other hand, is a different matter...

From April 22nd on, this will be a different race and the Obama campaign knows this. That's why it's so critical for it to use this time to land as many punches as possible, below the belt or otherwise. April 22nd will be the very first day that voters (remember them?) will be allowed to weigh in post-Wright. And post-SF. About time.

The whole message is now being shaped by Axelrove in such a way that when Hillary wins big in Pennsylvania, it will be spun that it only happened because she ran a racist campaign and because the voters are racist to respond to it. The fallback position for Axelrove is always Obama as victim. We'll see if it's really like the nattering nabobs have claimed, i.e. what Axelrove's spin up to this point has been: that there is no impact for Obama from the Wright incident.

The Obama campaign knows a few things that the rest of the world does not (yet): there has been a big effect from Wright; the small contributors are drying up; the superdelegates are pulling back; his remarks in SF motivated the Republican base; their candidate is no good when not scripted and has a very short fuse. He's got big problems that are only getting bigger. Bet on it. The time is coming when even Axelrove can't help Obama.

    3. Response to Shalom  04/08/2008 10:16 PM Report

Shalom, Obama will fight Islamic radicalism that would harm America's or her allies' interest. The best way to do that is allow moderate Islamic society fight radicalism along side the free world. With respect to China, it is something we should not worry about in the same scale as any other country that is up and coming like, such as Russia. China has so far shown to be willing to work with the free world, they have a decade plus to be comfortable in the world stage they are coming yet to occupy. They need to be consulted on matters of international challenges. They managed to quiet North Korea, they are showing 'some' willingness to work on the Darfu issue, although they can be pressed on that issue. However, China is not an immidiate threat for now, they have nearly double the number of US population to worry about, hence let them work on their problem. The only worry I would have with respect to China is wealth distribution, but then again China is known to check on people who are overwhelmingly wealthy citizens. In fact with respect to wealth distribution we in the free world have more on our plate than to worry about China or Russia. Therefore Sen. Obama need not to worry about those countries, regardless of who is going to be the next president, those two countries will not stop what they are doing. As a matter of fact, President Obama is seen as someone of less threat t both countries since he is seen internationally as some one who is more of a unifier than a 'divider.' With respect to experience, if the most experienced ones are making wrong decisions what is the point of having experience? Sen. Obama has shown to be extremely causious and most importantly, he has shown courage not to follow wrong decisions despite overwhelming pressure and despite the popularity of the issue. If you ask me, I would like to be protected by someone that has the ability to filter all false information and get the correct one and make precise decision than someone who is guided by temperament, impulsive feeling or following wrong "deciders." In terms of economic challenges America is and will be facing in the short term, Sen. Obama is aware of it and he is capable of following what is best for Americans unlike others who are there to represent corporations. Sen. Obama is going to give the middle class the breaks it needs and transfer the load on those who have been getting free ride over the American people back, those 2% top earners. Those at the lower scale end are going to benefit with President Obama than any other person. Sen. Obama will undoubtedly beat Sen. McCain by a large margin. Sen. Obama appeals to more independents and young people as well as moderate Republicans and in some cases right-wing-republicans who are unsatisfied with what is going on with the current administration. For Sen. McCain will be leading much like the current Pres., in fact, many call Sen. McCain as Pres. G.W.B's policy twin. The American people are very unhappy with the current administration of taking the country into a wrong war, and letting the economy fail miserably. There are several million people sleeping with one eye open, they do not know when the bank will come knocking their door and throw them out on the street. America under the current administration has become much like Darfur internally displaced, the only difference between Darfure and America is there are streets here in America and some people drive nice machines, but in terms of current hope-measurement scale they are all in the same level. The Iraq war has doubled the economic problem for the average American. Soon, there will be uncontainable crisis driven by energy price, which will drive food price seen throughout the world. ONLY Sen. Obama can pull the ropes and straighten the wagon check each sector to see where the problem lies and which problem deserves an immidiate remedy and which can be carried along the way, he is the only one that chase the dark clouds hovering over our heads and bring some sunlight for all, including for our allies. All those soldiers aho are being asked to remain in Iraq are going to come home where they need to be at, and force the Iraqi regime take their own responsibilities. All those skits being played just before Gen. Petreus appear before Congressional committee are noticed by the American people. No more falling for tricks. Shalom

    4. Shalom Freedman  04/06/2008 05:19 AM Report

Axelrod gave the Obama machine without having the Obama charisma, glamour, flare. He funfied it out ( Funfy. A Yiddish word meaning to stutter and talk through one's nose ). In any case he told his how Obama is going to change the country, diminish energy dependence, provide adequate health-care- and how he is going to unite Americans by opening up a dialogue in which all can participate.

He also pitched Obama's record , and biography. He spoke about Obama's 'experience' and mentioned not only the political work, but the work as community- organizer- also his work on the 'Harvard Review'.

Here I thought Charlie Rose might have introduced one minor objection i.e. On the executive level and in the world of international affairs Obama has no experience.

Axelrod blamed the war on Iraq for the price of energy increasing by thirty or forty percent. He did not provide the Obama formula for dealing with Radical Islam, for contending with China, for dealing with America's balance-of- payments problem, its credit crisis, its fundamental economic difficulties.

Axelrod in other words suggested how Obama might address some of the questions. But many were not considered at all.

    5. Shaft  04/04/2008 07:03 PM Report

Mr. Rose, its really nice of you to coincide Mr. Axelrod's conversation with the eve of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 40th year of senseless murder commemoration. It is indeed 40 years too late for America to live up to the greatest American citizen's dream. Mr. Rose asks why is Sen. Obama NOT popular with the elderly? Well Charlie, you know why just as much as anyone with commonsense. Those elderly you are referring to have been in the middle of it all the racism that has been preventing African-Americans the piece of the American dream pie. To this day those older white folks hold the same belief transferred from their parents and grand parents, hopefully they will not be able to transfer their belief to the coming generation. Racism is fading away slowly and surely, I think we need another two decades before we have relatively equal society. But then again the most important issue here is not to wait for the older folks to slowly die out and disappear, but to strengthen our democratic laws and make all government institutions racism free by stringent penal code against racism. It is only thru strengthening those penal codes can we achieve equality and fairness. In some cases where racists transcend penal codes in place can be offset by government intervening and giving chances to balance those denied of access to the American dream, which by the way is not as endowed today as it was a decade or two ago. America may be losing the patent to open opportunity for all policy to some other nations as we continue to led by zealots and right-wing fanatics who are thoughtless humans guided by self interest and greed. President Brack Obama will change all those special interest lobbyists making America weak in favor of few individuals' self-interest, surely that will make the American economy stronger again by the end of his first term. The younger generations who are out of radar are changing the course of history in favor of REAL and FUNDAMENTAL CHANGE.

I'd like to see David Plouffe on the show.

    7. Ulf Dahlen  04/04/2008 04:35 PM Report

I thought it was a good interview, but with nothing new really. Axelrod did the expected thing, playing down expectations in Pennsylvania, so that a close finish (say 53-47 for Clinton) would be perceived as a Obama success. Axelrod did seem a bit tired.

    9. Bill Higgins  04/04/2008 03:51 AM Report

David had a bad night and didn't do his canidate well. He spoke like 'snake oil" salesman and don't think he sold much of that either. First 100 days turned into R&D for new energy and long looks at medical insurance and talking to the Generals about Iraq. Let's go to the bread and butter issues that might light flame for change....fuel taxes; pay-go; lay out where the belt must be tightened; mortage help;curtail foreign imports [Wal-Mart\ good luck!!;But much of it is a pep talk for Congress to work on...the Prez can only jawbone.

Simple formula; cut spending, change tax code and start talking to Americans first and then the good and bad guys around the world.

Get Barack on Charlies 's show ASAP.

If David Axlerod says "uh" one more time... how annoying to listen to a man who is obviously intelligent who cannot speak a complete sentence without an UH. Emergency speech coach needed in Chicago STAT.

Hillary's "under (fantasia) fire," shot her damn self in the political foot. It was so pathelogically pathetic it oversteps anything Rev Wright's rabidity. Another administration of lies will finish off our wounded nation. KS will go for McCain anyway so my vote is going to Ralph. Principles have been abandoned long enough. So I can vote em penalty free.
