Hey Irish, I know Specter's GOP, and I agree. He did not come out and spew arguments conjured from far-right dementia, but I found his answer about Obama patronizing. He called Obama VERY bright and gifted, then expressed doubt about the aptitude of his experience. Look at George Bush in the WH. Listen to him speak. I may be a young person, but I'm still embarrassed by our choice in a President. If GW can get in the WH with a little experience, I am ready to vote for someone who's BRIGHT and GIFTED. This is my point. So, Obama supporters need to start arguing the importance of an experienced cabinet. It worked for Bush. All I've heard for the last eight years is "Bush isn't very smart but has super smart people behind him." Obviously, these super smart people were lacking intelligent leadership, because I do believe even the press secretary or the "typical" WH intern is smarter than our current president. Hence, under the direction of a talented leader, inspiring intelligent minds, this country has a chance to be what it has not been for a long, long time. I will not eat the media for breakfast on this one. I will commune with my conscience.

What a patriot! By which I mean his dangerous amendment to the Patriot Act (appointment of US attorneys without term limits or Senate confirmation) and his waste of taxpayer dollars and conflicts of interest pursuing the New England Patriots.
On "inspecting" Iran รข?? remember when we "inspected" Iraq to give us the appearance of due process before an illegal invasion? Just wait and see how the administration and senate begin another masterful lead-up to an invasion of Iran. Very interesting that Charlie asked questions about his confidence in the CIA and the Warren Commission. He likes the CIA when they assassinate presidents but not when they report facts that hurt Bush's plans.

I appreciated the Specter interview. I did not know much about him. He is not shy, but I suppose Senators are not. He has guts and is smart. His stressing the importance of experience for a Presidential Candidate makes a certain sense, but of course one can misuse one's experience or one can be someone whose wisdom somehow goes beyond one's experience. On the Iran question I was surprised on his praise for Baradei who has been incompetent on the Iranian question. I also was surprised he did not provide evidence as to the Iranians' nuclear intentions and ambitions. There is plenty and it comes not only from their record of deceit but from their open- source statements about nuclear- intentions in various contexts.
On the whole I thought it was a great interview with Charlie Rose once again showing why he is the best at this game.

USC student: Spector is a Republican and thus his avoidance of any negative comment is actually something to be admired, no? Especially if he wants Obama to win the nomination. I think your posts are great - though I dont share your enthusiasm.

Correction to my 3/28 post: Sen. Arlen Specter, not Spectrum. However, I still did not find honorable his fence riding on Obama. I'm tired of politicians covering their own backsides to save party-face. That's why young people want a president who can communicate with passion and integrity, when it's not convenient. We are the ones who will be left to clean up the mess, so please help us to choose a president that symbolizes a leap into the future. Ours, not yours.

Arlen Specter is the patriarch of a clan of self-righteous hypocrites and frauds. He's helped himself to the best medical care available, meanwhile, his son Shanin is one of the biggest ambulance-chasers in Philadelphia ( one of the reasons Drs. are fleeing PA and maternity wards continue to close)Arlen has survived cancers, heart disease, etc. to bore us with his pompous arrogance.

Hey Misiru,
What else did you need to hear from the lpb or youtube version of the interview that would help you to make an educated decision on Senator Spector's position?
Musiri Janakiraman 03/28/2008 09:08 PM Report
Every now and then, the internet piece is NOT complete. I hope others have pointed this out. The interview with Mr. Spector is yet another interesting one. He is one of the very few senators, because of whom I still feel that there is a chance that this child democracy coud find its way back to its original intent.

I applaud Arlen Specter for saying that he would pursue dialog with Iran regarding their nuclear program and use UN inspectors for verification that the program is for civilian purposes. However, I wonder how any country could not trust that the US after invaded Iraq despite an intense UN sponsored inspection program in that country. It appears that even by playing by international rules on verification does not protect against US invasion and occupation.

exactly charlie, why won't arlen acknowledge that obama has spellbound us with his attitude and hopes to rebuild the mess that bush has dished us.
what is it about intelligent republicans who cannot bring themselves to come out against mc cain for trying to cram us full of more war...that damned war has finished us off and for those who are still doing well because they voted bush, then god help them to choke on their own sick.
it is sad that arlen cannot say that the man in DC is sick and narcissistic, and he has dashed the hopes of millions of people who are sick of explaining how a nation with seemingly millions of intelligent and selfless people can vote bush in spite of the results. no one should think that there will be good news about the bush presidency after several decades, unless the judges of that are as poorly educated as they can expect to be under the school system we have today...and arlen, you are confirming bad habits by bush...its nu-clee-ar and not nu-kew-lar...we dont say nu-kew-lus, we say nu-klee-us...let's give the children at least something they can get right in these lean years of idiots in washington.
USC Student, Los Angeles 03/28/2008 01:39 PM Report
Thanks for the interview with Vitaly Churkin. It is good to know that Russia also feels uncomfortable about Iran's uranium collection. On the other hand, Sen. Spectrum puzzled me. On Obama (after adding that they worked down the hall from each other), Spectrum spoke like a "typical politician." (Hope I haven't offended anyone). He thinks Obama's a VERY bright and gifted communicator, possibly better than JFK, BUT (which dismissed all of these positive statements), he advanced the good ole' lack of experience argument. Fuey! What about the fact that we need a great communicator in the White House? And that we should be using our cultural capital? It's not like we have monetary capital anymore. Why doesn't a politician argue the point of cabinet experience? An experienced cabinet can be just as efficient as some bozo who's been governor before. But this argument is only raised to buttress bozo leaders, who are lousy speakers, and that fail to unite Americans. Older people are hurting us (young people) with their prejudices. We need someone in the White House who knows how to communicate with us. Did you know that 91% of students in Las Vegas, Nevada failed algebra this past year? There's a reason so many students are not engaged in their futures. They know when robots are speaking to them. If America doesn't care about picking an impressive, new leader, why should young people care about impressing America?

Charlie;
Re: Arlen Specter interview: Wow Charlie, Where did that question about the Warren Commission come from ?? The body language of Specter during his answer was nearly enough to indict him of ingenuousness. Citing "numerous other books" as evidence of the Commission's correctness was as convincing as G. Bush's "Combat operations are over" declaration. Maybe some day we'll get some answers.

Thank You Charlie for your candid interview with Senator Spector. It is so necessary for the players in this game to "DEFINE THEMSELVES." You have that gift and I encourage you to utilize it. No tricks, no mudslinging, no insults...just pure dialogue, direct questions and graciousness. Bravo!!!

Charlie, Arlen is a talented prevaricator and extremely bright. You cut, interrupted and interfered with his verbalizations more than usual, and your "usual" can be a headache.
Please review tapes of Brian Lamb (C-SPAN) for an exemplar of The Great Interview, and retreat from the stardom you so often seek.
