How can people keep harping on the experience issue, Barack clearly has more legislative experience than Hilary does. Older age does not make one automatically more able to make right choices On Day One, nor does life experience in years necessarily translate into sound wisdom. Her being Vetted does not qualify her to claim better judgement. She has not proved she makes better decisions, or have better Solutions. She keeps saying Barack's only experience is a speech he made in the Democratic primary in '04. What a bald faced lie! Why don't the media point these things out. Have they totally fallen for Hilary's criticism of them and her poor me tactics, and are now scared of her, and on the run? Why are they not pointing out the truth. How many more lies is the media going to let her get away with? Bring up Hilary's tainted past, as she tries to manufacture doubt and lies about Barack Obama. Point out her own plagiarizing, back room tactics, and flip flopping politics, as she falsely accuses him of the things she has so much Experience in doing. Point out his Experience, in the House and Senate, more years than hers. Point out his many accomplishments, the bills he has worked on and passed. Point out that he has been Vetted in his life, as she has. Her Vetting includes her husbands infidelities, her own admission, that seems to me to incriminate something about her. Fool me once shame on you Bill, fool me twice, and numerous times, shame on me. Barack has been through 4 campaigns now as a black man in this country, how more vetted can you get than that? The people in Congress have deep respect for his unique talent and gifts, why throw those gifts away on a woman who will do anything to win? Do we want someone like that in the White House? A manipulator, an conniver, a liar. This is the only time in my life I have ever voted in a primary and I have never voted for someone that I like. I feel Barack is the only choice that has the will and talent to be able to bring people together, to bridge the divide in this country and in the world. Hilary wants to fight everyone, the republicans, who will never agree with her or her policies, as well as any world leader that has views she unwilling to hear or have empathy for. Our social mandated programs are already in crisis and she expects another one will fly? This country is not innocent in it's affairs in the world or in the history of our own country. What high moral ground can we stand on to force anyone else to live up to? We talk to leaders in China, Russia, etc who is above fault that can play God and choose who is worthy to talk or not, or who is bad enough to bomb or not. Hilary represents the old guard, that is why she has military people as supporters, they are supporting the status quo. People are afraid of change, the unknown is scary. The status quo is the comfortable way, the easy way, but not necessarily the best way. Hilary is willing to sabotage the hope, of so many millions, that change will actually happen for once. She is now stealing Barack's message of Hope and Yes We Can, in her speech last night she said Yes We Will. Well Barack should steal it back and say Yes We Can and We Will. In the past she has accused him of stealing her ideas, because his were working and hers were not. He did not steal her ideas, in his book, written well before this campaign started, you can see that those ideas are his own, you can see his intellect and willingness to listen, to have understanding and empathy for the other side. He gets advice from people he admires, with high ideals, not politically safe ideas, but ideas that have a chance to bridge the divide in this country. People like me, non-party, 52 year old white female will feel disengaged again in the process if she does not stop. Please stop her, go away Hilary, we don't want or need more of your negative, false and misleading tactics.

I enjoyed Charlie Rose's interview with Tom Daschle. Especially poignant was the opportunity and chance to debate key issues of choices of our direction as a nation. If we are to take the drastic turn from the current acceleration toward self-destruction, then we need to look into transformational issues, and not the rhetoric of usual politics.

We are either in this together as individuals or bowed down below a ruling monarchy. Time to let go of the Bush-Clinton era.

I will be linking to this video from my ezine free independent news ezine www.FlybyNews.com

Our next issue will also include more on the dangers and harm from nuclear power, and of course will cover more on the taboo topic of September 11.

Thanks again for your presence in TV journalism.

Strange, many commenters have written angrily of Charlie Roses' seeming impartiality in favor of Obama, while I myself have often felt that he was impartial in favor of Hillary Clinton. clearly, we're both wrong :)

      Dear Charlie Rose,

I stay up late to watch your show as I admire your objectivity in your interviewing as well as your dogged search for the substance behind the presentation. So, I was sorely disappointed in your interviews with the campaign managers of both the Democratic candidates for President. I challenge you to watch the tape of your interviews of last evening and count how many times you even used the name of Hillary Clinton. Repeatedly, you referred to Barack Obama and "The Clintons". You placed more emphasis on Bill Clinton and his remarks than any of Hillary's remarks. You asked if Bill's remarks would hurt Bill, not what it did to hurt Hillary.

When you incredulously asked if this campaign was effected by gender, Daschle said that it was not. Watching this, I immediately thought, "How would he know?" I believe the Hillary is caught between two charismatic men

and a male-dominated press, and she can hardly get her identity and message out. She is mainly referred to as a partner of Bill rather than a person of any merit herself. Have you bothered to view the female perspective of the last two Saturday Night Live Skits written by a female? Have you ever considered this large turnout might be due to the long, long eight years of Bush, and people's frustration of not being heard oe even considered in the policies of this country.

I think it is a shame that the only candidate who can be considered by many is one who has so little experience that he cannot be slammed by the press. Does experience count for so little? Hillary's intelligence, experience, and commitment to this country have been long-standing, strong, and deep. However, one would never know it by watching your show last evening. Actually, I thought Tom Daschle had more complimentary remarks regarding Hillary than you did. By the end of the show I thought that there was no question that you were a Barach supporter, and very surprised that you were either blind to your own lack of objectivity or to your own preference for a male president. This show ran as an endorsement for Obama. Please consider these remarks as I have never written to a television performer in my life, but because I have admired you,and I felt this was so one-sided I had to write. I would like to continue to value your remarks, journalistic skills, and your program, so please right this situation as soon as possible. Thank you.

Charlie rose your a bit to old to be captivated with the "movement" of Obama. You must know that any real movement must have some meaning behind it, the movement for civilic rights, the Orange movement in Ukraine , what's the meaning behind Obama's "Change" and "Hope" it's as superficial as the American culture of today. It has more to do with the person then it has to do with any coral principles. Every election is be about change and for a politician to pedal hope of some great culture movement has more in common to the Chavez, the Hiltler, the Mao movements then a responsible democracy.

    12. Cynthia Backlund  03/04/2008 02:51 PM Report

I am hugely loyal to the Charlie Rose show, and have watched with great interest and admiration for many years. Over the past several months I have watched with ever-increasing dismay what appears to be Mr. Rose's enthrallment with what he calls the "movement" of Barack Obama's campaign. I do not question that there is indeed a movement at hand. I do feel seriously disappointed, however, when a journalist I respect, Charlie Rose, displays such disregard for impartiality in his interviewing. It's obvious he would explain that he is simply reporting on this important historic "movement", its origins and what may be its "true" meaning; but that does not explain, or, to my mind, excuse, his public and enthusiastic participation in this same movement, wherein he purports to be an impartial interviewer and where he usually succeeds so well.

In the conversation with Daschle it took over 17 minutes into the interview before Rose broached even one question "somewhat" related to the real issues facing the American people. That question was immediately followed by "What is it [people\ like [about Obama\?", which led to more adulatory praise, and the conversation went back to what most of the media have chosen to focus on: the "brilliant" Obama, his personality, his oratory, his "movement", etc. Rose has mentioned more times than I can count, on several shows, how much excitement and interest there is for Obama's campaign in Europe and elsewhere. Not once have I heard questions which ask: "What does "change" mean, in concrete terms, in this context? How will that "change" be put into place? Does this candidate really have a record of effecting the kind of "change" he promises?" How is this lack of substantive discussion, except about the political "excitement" and "charisma", helping the American people learn about the presidency that may come with this candidate? How does Mr. Rose see his role in this campaign? Does he take responsibility for his participation in the media frenzy?

The bottom line, from what I have seen, again to my dismay, is that when Rose mentions Hillary Clinton it appears to be with the unguarded assumption that she should be, if not irrelevant, then at least a second thought compared to Obama's rise. I would be very happy if Mr. Rose took some time, perhaps after, and if, his media celebrity/candidate is anointed, to watch or read his own show; perhaps he will see what I have seen over these months: when he speaks about HIllary, it is only to compare her to Barack's charisma and powerful campaign - evidence the Ickes interview - not to also delve into her career and the historic campaign she continues to excite. There has not been, except in name only, an intelligent conversation about Hillary Clinton from Rose's questions, except as she relates to Obama, or Bill Clinton. On this venerable show, almost every conversation in this primary season appears to be a continuing conversation about Barack Obama. (The most recurring scenario that burns in my mind, after many watchings, is when some Hillary supporter appearing on the show makes a positive statement about her, e.g., "Senator Clinton would be a great Commander-in-Chief", Mr. Rose without fail asks something akin to: "Are you saying Barack Obama wouldn't be a great Commander-in-Chief"?!". He does not do the same in a discussion with Obama supporters.) I am terribly disappointed in what I have always called the best program on television.

    13. Shaft  03/04/2008 01:53 PM Report

Charlie this is another marvelous conversation with a high personality within the Democratic Party. I once heard someone quoting on your program an old Chinese proverb, <b>"May you born in interesting times."</b> I can say that I am happy to be living in the most interesting times. Having a femal or an African-American running the world from the oval office is unthinkable. It shows to the average person that everything is possible in America. I have some problem with you Charlie, eversince the Democratic campaign for the nomination began, you have been somehow injecting the notion that Obama is Black and Inexperienced. Regardless what you try to inject in people's thought processes the fact is America is in love with Obama. CNN has jumped in the band wagon trying to relate his name with Osama, FOX NEWS has run for a while with his middle name constantly to remind America that Obama is not born Christian. Dispite what negative minds do, the time has come for change; that FUNDAMENTAL CHANGE is here. I say, let's embrace it and celebrate it together, let's make the experience of this FUNDAMENTAL CHANGE enjoyable.

    14. TKS  03/04/2008 10:15 AM Report

I believe Obama is a lot of hot air who may or may not live up to his lofty rhetoric and he went to the US Senate merely to run for President and has a horrible record of attentding to his duties and voting. Fools believe that experience doesn't count in either foreign or domestic policy. It is baffling so many would fall for an inexperienced speechmaker when, at a time of enormous problems at home and abroad, two exceptional leaders and stalwarts - McCain in foreing/military affairs and Clinton in domestic issues - are out there to pick from. I, however, do agree that Bill Clinton has been narrow minded, unecessarily critical (given his stature in public and position as a former US President) and dissappointing from the time I watched his interview on Charlie Rose (which was long before the controversy about him errupted in media). But there is no question that the media at large is smitten with, overly defferential towards and responsible for propogating Obamamania. Obama, if elected President, will have to transform overnight from his 'hope and change' Martin Luther King avataar to 'get the business done through legislation and executive decisions' Lyndon Johnson mold. Or else Washington DC and the world, which is tougher than anything Obama may imagine and lead us to believe, will eat him alive. While McCain and Clinton are proven, Obama is a gamble.

Your show last night was excellent! Your questions were fair and even-handed.

I would have bet anything before I saw your interview with old Clinton hack, Ickes, you were going to give him easy, schmoozey, soft-ball questions and you didn't!! Bravo!

When The Clintons snivel about the media giving Sen Obama preferential treatment (not true) they never mention that Bill had an hour to spew his outrage against Obama on your show several months ago. There he was, eyes bulging, pointing his fingers in your face .... don't you weary of these Clintons and their surrogates with their sense of "it's owed us" entitlement?

The Clintons have received brazen, outlandishly preferential treatment from Jon Stewart and SNL and still, they have to gall to whine.

The Clintons have run the dirtiest, most innuendo filled, attacking Sen Obama campaign imaginable, yet, these nasty, unscrupulous, back-stabbers howl with rage when they are criticized.

It is an outrage that Bill gets as much TV coverage as his little enabling wife does. This campaign has truly been a two against one. Bill and Hill campaign and pile-on aganist Barack Obama.

At least, you were fair last night.

Daschle is so right, he is saying everything I have been feeling. This other idiot, for Hilary, is an idiot, he has no arguments that make any sense, and he knows it. Hilary and her campaign accuses Barack of using words and lofty speeches, as she is giving a come down speech full of divisive words. How stupid is that? And her experience, excuse me, her middle of the night phone call, were probably the calls for help to cover up her husband's newest infidelity. What hypocrisy. She never had solutions for keeping him in check, when she knew fully well his problem. What solutions is she talking about, that are superior over his? She can't even manage her campaign well. Look at the difference in the people Barack has chosen to help him, the message he chose for his campaign, and the strategy. Barack is clearly so far above Hilary. They force him to have to respond to and have to defend himself against their barrage of transparent stupid lies and innuendos. He has more legislative experience than she does, 12 over her 8. Her White House experience trying to manage Bill does not count, especially since she didn't do it very well. And now the newest is that we don't know enough about him, he has not the battle scars she has, and probably deserves. But we do know enough about Barack Obama, most of us have read his books and Know what we need to know. We have seen how fast he has learned, how smart he his, and how he has conducted and managed his campaign. We have seen how he handles himself against the kitchen sink strategy...they have not been able to get him on the defensive, go negative like them, or make a mistake. I suppose it is giving him practice for the general campaign....but it seems like he doesn't need the practice, he has campaigned brilliantly so far, she is the one that needs the practice of conducting herself appropriately. We want and need a Uniter not a Divider.

      Re: Conversation with Mr Ickes.

Somewhat disappointed by Mr. Rose questioning... Although he probed in his usual fashion with a mix of obvious inquiries and more penetrating "estocades", he failed by giving Mr Ickes the ability to undermine Mr Obama without raising the issue of Mrs. Clinton refusal to release her tax returns or other data regarding her agenda of meetings in the White House. C. Rose did not seem quite totally impartial. A pity....
