John Daly 02/19/2008 07:38 PM Report
It is shameful that government funding for science and technology has gone down in real terms in the United States in recent years. That trend must be reversed.
On the other hand, the creation of knowledge benefits us all, and we should applaud the growth of support for science and technology in Europe and Asia!
David Hamber 02/19/2008 03:16 AM Report
How can anyone believe in America's ability to maintain its world leadership in science in technology, when every poll seems to indicate that most Americans do not believe in the fact of evolution. One poll in June of 2007 indicated only 18% of Americans believed that evolution was "definitely true." Even more telling are the international test results from December 2007 that show that American students "had an average science score that was lower than the average score in 16 other OECD countries." In math, American students "did even worse รข?? posting an average score that was lower than the average in 23 of the other leading industrialized countries."
