He does a great job at explaining this in layman's terms. I also agree with his philosophy on the need for taking more risk.

Charlie is an excellent interviewer who has the ability to follow interesting threads that have serious implications on our lives. Venter is a scientist/engineer who dismisses the medical/insurance implications. Insurance companies are in business to make money. I believe if they have genome information they will make decisions to accept or reject people based on the statistical probablility of a person getting a costly illness or disease. It is part of best business practices.

Excellent interview. Graic Venter expressed the true spirit of a change maker. I responded to his comments about being mentored by a professor, didn't have any idea of where he was going with his profession, and that he was fortunate not to have had a serious education in school--he maintained his natural curiosity and listened to his heart.
I will buy his book.
As a veteran of Vietnam I appreciate his response to his experience in Vietnam.
Thanks

Dear Charlie and Craig,
Yep...it's a brand new world, rather, an old world getting discovered. Just be careful, dudes...be careful.
