Mr. Hoffman gives the performance of a lifetime. I sat in the theatre riveted, knowing full-well that I would never see greater acting in my lifetime.

The fact that Mr. Lumet still delivers the goods with the same energy and talent as he did with "Twelve Angry Men" some fifty years ago gives all of a reason to celebrate. What a talent. Engaging interview. Engaging film. Thanks.

The situation is an interesting study of family irony. Idea films are hard to pull off but nonetheless, the students come to study. I wish Mr. Lumet would have talked about the problems a little more. Based on his credentials, an argument is made that Mr. Lumet would have been a better choice for American Gangster.
Ethan Hawke seems like a sweet guy and probably unfairly maligned in the press for all that ridiculously intrusive personal stuff, but he comes across as too needy. I don't think it's a matter of toughening up. Maybe, it's the venue -- television would work? (This film is very "screenwriter" and will be good on DVD in a more intimate setting).
Philip Seymour Hoffman is an actor whose experiments are always interesting. Marisa Tomei is the quiet subversiveness professional.
