Whether real or fabricated, he's always had this charm about him. It's too bad he actually shunned evolution in one of the Republican debates.
Dr. Murray M. Morgan 01/31/2008 06:13 AM Report
Alas! John Edwards Dropped Out Because Heartless America is Near-Sighted, Veto Power for Iran and American Elections!
Are we condemened to have another 4-year disasterous Republican Presidency?
By: Dr. Murray M. Morgan
An Open Letter to Senators Obama, Clinton and My Fellow Americans
Dear Senator Obama,
You can call me naive, cynical, ... but I do NOT want to see Presidency remains in the vicious/racist/cruel Republicans turf/hand for another four years. I wonder if those [the shadow government/corporative-military Industrial machinery\ who, really, through our bought-press [media\ run our country are the ones who prevented Dennis Kucinich's and John Edwards from being heard and being known the way that yours and Hillary's name are heard; the eventuality of which being prevention of Kucinich or Edwards from becoming the Democratic nominee.
You can NOT imagine the teardrop that slid down my cheek when I heard about the uplifting news. Because of the WRONGS and trauma that is continuously/still being inflicted on African Americans, election of you as the President of the United States would not only has soothing/healing effect on African Americans, but also, it would bring back the LOST good reputation that our country, undeservedly, used to enjoy in the past; lost/vanished because of the BLATATANT/NAKED atrocities that, during King George's reign, people of Iraq, Iran [the most civilized nation on the face of earth -- read a little bit more about Iran to know why\ and other countries of Middle East have endured and suffered from.
What I am seeing [because of what I have seen of the racist people of our country\ is that Republicans love to have you or Hillary as the NOMINEE of the Democratic Party because they believe that they can beat you both easily because of the color of skin and gender prejudice/discrimination. I believe that Republicans hate to see John Edwards as our NOMINEE.
Although I crave for seeing your popularity to be genuine and true, because of the ignorance and embedded racism in our country, I am a kind of worried that it is the racist tactic of Republican party that might have instructed their members to vote for you so that they make you the NOMINEE of the Democratic Party for to, then [during the face-to-face competition\, by turning on their vicious attack machine and having their members [amongst which the most racist ones who normally do not vote\ to cast their votes for Republican NOMINEE; and once again very easily [for another four years\ steal the Presidency from the people.
I hope I am wrong. Call me skeptic, ... but I think it is a very wishful thinking [of Caroline and Senator Kennedy\ to think that Republicans, Asians/Hispanics -- who do not seem to like "Blacks\ and prejudiced White Democrats to vote for an African American even at this day and age [in 21st century\. Please, believe and accept it from me that it is my dream to see you as the President of the United States. Because, the only event that might make people of other country to, once again, look at America with envy and admiration is that American people elect a "Black" as their President.
Such event makes people of other countries to believe that America is, really, sorry for her vicious acts in the past; the attack on Iraq [with 1000000 casualty, ... \, the fabrication of American-Embassy-Hostages-taking-in Tehran [by Kissinger, Rockefeller, Ashraf Pahlavi, and one other person -- who thought of it to happen by "radical-students" as a "revolutionary"-like-act so that America uses the excuse to by freezing Iran's assets, imposing sanctions, and having Saddam to attack Iran cause PROBLEM for the revolution fail/not-become-successful in establishing Mardom-Saalari/Democracy in Iran AND that other countries in the region think twice to emulate it.
We, hypocritically, state/shout/pretend that we want to export/establish Democracy to the region yet we cause/make so many problems to prevent its establishment in Iran that its people[, with inspiration of independence and aim of removal of resources-plundering-tentacles/suckers/hooks from their land\, had dared to revolt and topple the brutal government that we had helped to be established in there by our CIA-guided Cout d'Etats of 1953 against Dr. Mohammad Mossaddegh; the DEMOCRATICALLY-elected Prime Minister of our puppet in there; naming "Shah" ["Shahanshah"-e-Iran/"the King of the Kings" Mohammadreza Pahlavi\.
In that event (joyous illus ional Obama as President) one thing that I want you to promise me is that you would be treating Iran and other countries as equals and that you would treat them with respect without attitudes and condescending-treatment. If you do that, then people of Iran themselves[assured of absence of any kind of outside danger/pressure\ without asking for outside-help, would rise against their oppressive/tyrannical government and, peacefully, convince/persuade the tyrants-in-charge to step down and return the power back to the people and to their real representatives; without having to, any longer, tolerate the insult of somebody at the top of power-pyramid whose title, "GURDIANship of Faghih/Savant" over people/the-whole-nation" [an ultimate insult to people of Iran\, means the "Faghih"/"leader" represents, as [the "Faghih/Savant" or "leader" Khomeini and other self-declared savants without any shame dared to utter it\ to be the Guardian of all the members of society -- except for few self-declared-savants-- that is, every member of the people of Iran are minor/stupid/retards who need to have a Guardian to decide for them. When outside pressure/danger threatens the country, to diffuse it, people of Iran tend to gather, around whatever government they have in their country; even if it is a brutal/tyrannical/oppressive government such as the one that is ruling in Iran right now. You should NOT listen to what those blue-blooded Pro-Shah individuals who, no longer, are in charge -- not able to suck life out of people -- who live abroad [in LA, Van Couver, London, Paris, ...\. You, having have had several-century-long history of suffrage of brutalistic/oppressive exploitation, [I am sure that\ understand the resentment that is ensued as the result of 110-years long resources-plunder and humiliating treatments (by West of Iran).
Does it make sense to go to a shop and, instead of saying "HIGH"/asking "HOW ARE YOU", BULLYINGLY with a blue-blooded condescending attitude humiliate, threaten and demand the shop-keeper that has something that we need so badly to give it to us? I am sure that if we treat people of Iran with respect and equals, they would be more than happy to be friends and trade with us. Let us "not do what we would not appreciate others do to us".
You should bow to the will of people of Iran regarding their decision to have [or not to have\ full nuclear fuel cycle capability and NOT wanting to be dependant on the outsiders that, for several time, have amassed their money but broke their contract with Iran without compensation [like France, Germany, USA\. People of Iran have the same right as we, for several times, have stated to have; the right of not reliance on others to give us our nuclear fuel.
Please, let [together with your Secretary of State\ us ask for and pray for forgiveness of God and people of Iran for our tresspassings that have inflicted harm and WRONGS on them. Promise me that you will put an end to our political abuses of the United Nations and its security arm, namely, the United Nations Security Council AND by removal of the illegally obtained sanctions-imposing resolutions and release of Iran's assets together with compensating Iran for our TRESSPASSes/Wrongs ask them to, once again, become our friend.
Also, let us, please, join the International Court of Criminal Justice, International Court of Civil Justice, Kyoto or any other International Treaties for Protection of Environment (distinction of one species/hour indicts the seriousness of the harm that we are inflicting on Earth which is our ONLY home in the Universe). Also, though, it sounds idealistic, let us remove the Veto right that, unfairly, we have given ourselves OR let us make Iran a member of UN Security Council with VETO power to bring balance in the decisions of UNSC because, as a kind/fair nation (that in its past history has given shelter to oppressed people an example of which is her current stance viz à vie Israel/Palestinian issue; the same stance that, 2500 years ago, Cyrus The Great of Iran, in upholding justice/fairness, took/had and gave shelter to the oppressed Jews that were fleeing/escaping the brutal Ferro of Egypt. It is ironic that, nowadays, in their name (in the name of Jewish people) Israel has engaged in brutal racist apartheid oppression on Palestinians AND the same Iran, since 1979, for the sake of upholding JUSTICE/FAIRNESS, is rejecting brutal treatment of Palestinians by Israel.
This way, people of the world would see our sincere regret that would, gradually, make them to, once again, look up upon us with admiration, respect and envy.
Sir, please, be careful of deceitful votingâ??s of Republicans and do NOT fall for their trick. Analyze and decide to withdraw your candidacy for President if, in your gut, you find that becoming the nominee of the Democrats would cost people to have another four years of disastrous Republicans' Presidency.
Please, do NOT allow these immoral/slick/brutal/racist/careless Republicans [who have no feeling/care for WORKING people\ to choose our [Democratic\ nominee.
I believe John Edwards has much better chance to, in November, beat Republicans than you. Please, accept the sincerity of my wish to have a black President which is very healing but, unfortunately, unrealistic.
Yours,
Murray

Do you know what's scary? Christian supremacists have a deep belief, which is stated clearly in the Holy Bible, that Christians will be heavily persecuted, and should never let the persecution steer them away from ramming their religion down everyone's throats. So, the more people speak out against them and their fascist ways, the more correct they believe they are. How does one combat such a twisted logic? Maybe a little historical education. When Christians were economically disadvantaged (compared to Muslims, in the Dark Ages), they were the more violent of the two. Islam enjoyed a cultural and artistic golden age. Now the situation seems to be reversed. What is my point? My point is that maybe the violence in the Middle East has little to do with actual religion, and more to do with poverty and hopelessness, with Islam being the scapegoat for violence. I know that was certainly the case with Christianity during the Dark Ages. It doesn't surprise me that Christian supremacists resort to conspiracy theories to describe why their ideology is not spreading as quickly as they want it to (i.e. the liberal media is against them). Live and let live. Stop being fascists!

I've never seen such a bunch of planted comments before; both for and against. The Republicans and the Democrats must have sent out an e-mail telling their "faithful" to visit the site. I'll bet they even provided "talking points."

I'm still waiting for Charlie to interview Ron Paul. I'm surrounded by so many of his fervent followers, and I'll admit some of what I hear sounds good. Still, I'd feel better if he was thoroughly vetted by Charlie Rose.
What happened to the "Candidates" series anyway?
Brian Cuffari 01/25/2008 10:57 AM Report
A previous comment by someone who describes Jesus teaching his disciples not to be involved in politics is a perfect example of why Christianity encourages its believers to live in a fantasy world. How could we make a world without politics work? The cynics love to believe that all politicians are corrupt, but things are not that simple. Religious people love to paint our existence in terms of black and white, right and wrong, but they are living in a fantasy world! Our existence is infinitely complex, and nothing is ever as simple as right and wrong. Sure, things seem right and wrong sometimes, but the point I'm trying to make is that even the things that are so obviously right or wrong have complex reasonings behind them. Christians in this country need to calm down and stop trying to ram their religion down everyone's throat. I believe in God, but the concept of heaven and hell in the afterlife is becoming increasingly silly to me as I age.

Science claims pharmaceutical medications are the panacea to all disease and suffering on our planet..
Science can't explain the power of love, which to me is the genuine panacea to all suffering on our planet. Science can't prove that this phenom. doesn't exist on our planet, but there is genune modesty in my heart to accept is as something more divine than that magical pill or bullet scientists "invented."
Who invented love??? Is science perfect?? Scientists believed the world was flat in the past. Scientists believed the earth was the center of the universe, but that doesn't mean that they should be disrespected because of flaws.. What is flawlessness???
The answer is the Dr. Rose!!! He is flawless, and God bless you!!!!!!!!!!!
better get back to my school work:p

Those seeking a hard-hitting, in-depth, interview of Ron Paul as "presidential candidate" should look no further than the Morton Downey Jr. Show. A quick search of the video sharing sites reveals a desparate shouting match over espoused conspiracy theories the likes of which have earned Ron Paul the corner he has painted himself into today, present internet following included.

Huckabee is embarrassing himself and his party. It's almost a spoof and ever so entertaining. I can just hear it - <<that Mormon is nuts - he thinks Jesus and Lucifer were BROTHERS! That is just OVER the TOP! Everyone knows Lucifer was God's favorite ANGEL until he got too greedy. If you cant get the hierarchy of Heaven straight you simply cant be President!>>
Sean 12/12/2007 12:33 AM Report
Huckabee defines himself by religion and faith. For him, science conforms to religion. He doesn't stand clearly as warning against global warming. He seems to insinuate that global warming is just some interesting hypothesis that won't destroy the human race (likely God wouldn't allow it) but if it destroys everything else, so be it!

Could you tell us where? in Matt. 22:21, Christ says that paying taxes to Rome is acceptable. this suggests that involvment in affairs of government is also acceptable if it doesn't contradict God's requirements.

He seems to have a very firm foundation. He has a well thought out world view. This type of sanity makes for a good leader. There is no doubt from listening to him that he is very intelligent. He has the unique ability to know what he believes and why he believes it, and then articulate it. That is evidence of a very well educated, well rounded, fully mature human being.
Laura Davis 12/09/2007 12:12 AM Report
I missed the interview with Mike Huckabee who is rapidly becoming the darling of the Christian evangelicals in Iowa and elsewhere. Was Huckabee asked about the Wayne Dumond parole case during his tenure as Governor of Arkansas? Apparently, Huckabee exerted pressure on the Arkansas parole board to pardon Wayne Dumond, a convicted rapist, and they gave in to the pressure. Mr. Dumond was released from prison after serving only a short period and then promptly raped and murdered a woman in Missouri. It would seem that Wayne Dumond claimed to be "born again" while serving his prison term and this led the Christian evangelicals to ask Governor Huckabee to get him released. If Governor Huckabee becomes the Republican nominee the Democrats can and should create a Willie Horton type ad about this matter. What sort of judgment does Huckabee have to cause the parole of a dangerous rapist and murderer? Also, this type of action belies Huckabee's claim that he will not be beholden to Christian evangelicals if he becomes President. His image as a nice guy is yet another media concoction. He might be more pleasant than Bush but he will be worse for this country, as difficult as that might be to imagine. Its about time Charlie Rose stops being a "nice guy" and starts asking tough questions of these candidates.

I didn't know who this Huckabee fellow was until I saw this interview. I think he's a great candidate. Very mature, serious does not play around, and he's done a lot of great things for his state. he has experience running a state. That's PLUs with me. I don't agree with his beliefs in evolution, however, he's willing to put his beliefs aside for the benefit of the country and that is true sign of a great leader. he's someone that seems like he's willing to put the people before himself. i really think he's a very powerful runner. I love what he views are regarding out nation's education. i also love the fact that he wants the U.S to be totally free from foreign oil.

I wish to update comments I made earlier after seeing the refreshing Mike Huckabee interview on your show.
I am disappointed that I have not yet seen anything regarding Dr. Ron Paul on your show to date. I so look forward to seeing Charlie interview him. He is certainly the most self-aware, intellectual, studied & honest candidate of the field, now that I have had a chance to more thoroughly investigate your election progress from my home in Canada. What a revealing contrast to the others (with the possible exception of Mike Huckabee), and this certainly includes anything any politician has to offer here. Of course though, the American Constitution is a more advanced, accurate & reliable document than anything we have to offer. This Constitutional commitment is Dr. Paul's special forte (as well as the fact that he is a career trusted net value producer, so uncommon as to be almost totally non-existent for politicians anywhere).
Allow me to revise my earlier opinion with this, my more informed perspective. What a wonderful & grateful Vice President Mr. Huckabee would make, with Dr. Paul as his and your thankful people's new President.
I urge all Americans to take advantage of the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity before you. I know Charlie has his homework ahead for that interview; meanwhile I need say no more to watchers than "Save Us All, & Google Ron Paul".
Thanks again,

Thank you Charlie for this interview with Mike Huckabee and the forthcoming candidate interviews. It is extremely helpful to have a full hour with a candidate to better understand his platform. I live abroad, much due to my dislike for the way our country has developed. I especially do not find it a healthy place to raise children. For the first time in many years, after hearing the Mike Huckabee interview, I was excited about the prospects for the US. I felt connected again and hopeful for this country if he were elected. He has great common sense, sees the issues clearly, and is focused on productive solutions. He is a clear thinker, a good communicator with a solid character. He is a man that can rise to the many unseen challenges for the U.S. that will come in the next decade. I must admit that I was a bit taken aback by the idea that he had been a baptist minister, a bit prejudice on my part, but after hearing him, I realize that these prior experiences, and his faith, actually make him a better politician - a higher quality politician. Wouldn't it be so refreshing to have an honest, clear communicator, leading the country with hope for a better tomorrow.
Whade Tufts 11/17/2007 08:02 PM Report
Living in Canada (Atlantica portion), I am not as informed of certain candidates whom would, nonetheless, if elected as US President to your people, affect my life as a citizen of North America and of the world. Mike Huckabee is such an example of a candidate about whom I was not particularly informed. Your enjoyable, most excellent interview with him (as per your usual style) has given me confidence that I have a clear understanding of his personal & professional background, his synopsis of current conditions, and his resolutions to make the USA a better country and improved member of the world's future civilizations.
Though I am a die hard anarcho-capitalist and atheist to boot, I am extremely refreshed at his earnest candor and his near-instantaneous responses to some wide-sweeping, candidacy-risky questions; his leading-edge thoughts on such issues as the oppressive federal tax on individual productivity, re-management of government schools, re-management of government health care, infrastructure revitalisation.
He was able to contextualize the issues for greater accuracy of analysis, and then build on that understanding, so I would be better able to make clear choices for progress, rather than be garden-pathed by the same unbroken stream of age-old sleight-of-hand jargon I hear from the realm of fat-cat, entrenched-in-the-status-quo partisan politics (country notwithstanding.)
I send my thanks to your show for the admirable job you have performed in informing me at this point in the presidential race, with the hope that Gov. Huckabee becomes President in 2008. It was a pleasure to watch from your website.
Here's hoping that the rest of the world takes a lesson from Huckabee's endeavor; this is no time for the status quo. In this age, and now likely in all ages to come, there are and will be innumerable individuals (followed by whole counties) evolving at speeds approaching that of light.
Perhaps Huckabee's influence on us in Canada would be one whereby we here find ourselves taking a long-overdue lesson in the grooming and exercise of effective statesmanship (insofar as government via representation can be effective).
Unfortunately, I am quite chagrined to add, at this time we in Canada have no one near the calibre of Gov. Huckabee to take the helm of our mouldy, wrinkled, good-old-boy's club in Ottawa. I look forward to witnessing such a statesmanship lesson unfold (how sad is that?), aided by your faithfully refreshing show.

Huckabee says that he is the ultimate 'right to life' candidate, and then states that both he and his wife have carry permits for handguns. In fact, he brags about it. Why didn't Rose ask him how he reconciles those two positions? Is Huckabee prepared to personally pull out his piece and abort somebody in their 124th trimester? Where in the New Testament does Christ say "thou shalt kill thine enemies?" Rose went softball...I might as well watch Larry King. This was an appalling interview.

To me, Huckabee sounded like four more years of Bush. Thompson, Giuliani, McCain, Romney, and even Hillary sound like four more years of Bush. That leaves only one republican candidate that actully believes in the principles of Republicanism. And, only one candidate who has the ability it seems to raise huge amounts of money very quickly. That one candidate is Dr. Ron Paul. Dr. Paul will play really well in New Hampshire. Ron Paul is acquiring about 1600 new money contributors every day and most are first time donors and average about $47.00 per donor. If the growth continues at it's current pace...things could get very interesting.

People are misunderstanding the issue involving evolution. Evolution is composed of two distict concepts macro and microevolution. The part of evolution he is disagreeing with is the macroevolution part that man evolved from monkies. He doesn't disagree with the notion that there are changes in single species (microevolution) to adapt to changes in environment to help them to better fit the world they live in. People need to understand evolution better before they start discrediting Mr. Huckabee's beliefs. Then again, that is what is being taught in public schools today- that evolution is one big idea that you have to totally agree or disagree with (not composing of micro and macro evolution with macroevolution not being backed up by science)....

I completely enjoyed the interview with Mike Huckabee on November 1st with Charlie Rose. Although I was a political science major in college I have not voted for president since 1994 due to the lack of depth in the candidates. Mike Huckabee offers more than just a sound bite - he seems to have a comprehensive vision of where the country stands now and where it should be headed on every critical subject from getting rid of the IRS being replaced by a VAT tax. This approach has been talked about before by politicians and has been evaluated by Nobel prize winning economists as a better mechanism to taxes. A VAT would immediately address many issues including illegal immigration - something no one has talked about including Huckabee. A VAT would immediately make anyone and everyone a tax paying citizen legal or otherwise. Huckabee has a keen sense that our education system is totally screwed up - that in the coming years we will not be able to compete based on how we teach our children - that we MUST encourage better teachers to enter to the educational system with higher and more competitive wages through revamping the system. His approach on health care is correct as well. And that is coming from someone without health insurance. We cannot simply give everyone health insurance but we MUST remove the lobbyists from the process - the insurance and pharms need to be held at bay and allow the doctors to do their jobs. Every other candidate whether Democrat or Republican seem to have a canned approach to all of the big issues -- Huckabee seems to want to do the right thing based on consensus building with America instead of what is best for a political party. If it isn't apparent I am impressed with this man. He seems to be on his game with every subject. Statistically if I recall US sentators have not done very well at winning the white house where govenors have -- giving him a reasonable chance at winning the GOP nomination. And after watching Charlie's show for at least the last seven years I feel like Charlie was impressed by Mike Huckabee as well? This will be the most interesting and I believe important presidential election in the last 20-30 years - there is a lot at stake. Vote wisely! I appreciate the Charlie's dedication to having the candidates come on his show and dedicating an hour to let them speak in more than 30-second sound bites. Great job Charlie! Always a great job...

I was hoping to have a chance to hear each of the candidates outside the debate forum so that I could get more than sound bites and posturing. This was an extraordinary interview. I was impressed with the ease and confidence of Mr. Huckabee and the completeness of his declarations; never once did he falter or give the impression that he was standing in the middle on any of the issues Charlie raised - very important issues that speak of a mans character and in this case, integrity. For the first time during the year feel warm about a candidate. At the conclusion of the interview, I was convinced that I could support this man and I believe that any of my friends and family that watch this interview will come to the same conclusion. Thanks Charlie for this great
