      Gabriel Serrano and Inscrutable Chinese:

Both of your comments lack valid points relating to the subject discussed during the program. You attack his character and claim that he is plagued with misery. The truth is-your writing style and ideas are plagued with misery...It is also suspicious that only Perry Link was commented on. It sounds to me like someone just doesn't like him. Could that person be a representative of the Chinese government?

    2. A Chinese student  11/20/2007 01:51 AM Report

Donâ??t always think about old examples. Assuming that interview is real story during the embassy event; this happened 8 years ago. Do you know how much is happening every year in China? Your country grows slowly doesnâ??t mean china grow slowly. Studying aboard, for example go to US, is still attractive for Chinese student, but not that much anymore. More and more students are searching position in china after finishing their study. Maybe it includes the student in that interview. Compare to American, I think Chinese of this generation have open mind. If you are good, we are happy to study from you. We definitely are going to dedicate something for this growing China.

American people, you are the resident of this top country. Your parent and grandparentâ??s effort made this Rich America. You enjoy the result. Please ask yourselves, can you make America to be rich longer? Donâ??t say America will be on the top for several decades, so we are safe. It sounds like, well I still have 1 million from my dad, letâ??s keep on playing for another 2 years still we spend the last penny.

Besides, American people need to study how to respect others. We still can work with stupid guys as long as they are humble. However, it is not possible to work with stupid guys with Bighead.

    3. Gabriel Serrano  10/21/2007 01:15 AM Report

Perry Link Should be shown with respect. But this show changed my mind on that option. Why does he try to insult Cheng Li and try to look better in resource content then him. I belive it's that Perry Link probually thought that he was above everyone else because of being from Princeton University. Look I'm not prejuduce but I belive Perry Link should of shown more class. Beimg an Adult should mean understanding life better. Which Respect of the person should always be considered! Cheng Li kept a class higher then Perry Link in the conversation. We all need to look past the race and culture to live peacefull lives with each other. If not then we will prove how ignorant we are and be guilty within our seleves. People die and have problems in Society just because of others negative behavior. We need to change already! It's a new era!

Well, rivalry breeds contempt, like Link said. Rivalry breeds bitterness when you have to watch your rival doing better and better by the day and there is nothing you can do about it. Watch that Perry Link dude, pay close attention to his facial expression, his quivering and shaky voice. He was hurting so much and trying so hard to conceal it, using contempt, disdain and dismissiveness as a disguise to hide his misery. But his attempt at implementing these aggressive emotions was sabotaged by his misery, which was rotting weakening him from inside and rendering his entire display clownish. Oh man, it must hurt like a bitch for this dude that China did not fall apart like the Soviet Union. Why didnâ??t China descend into a chaos with millions of people displaced???? Perry Link was readying himself to shower his patronizing pity all over them; he had been waiting with anticipation since 1989. Now the Chinese are good good study and day day up. How did that happen? Watching his torment I was immensely pleased, almost like when I got my first date years ago. His misery and his failed attempt at hiding it seeped into my heart like milk and honey, nourishing my Chinese identity, making it grow so big that I could hardly contain it in my chest. I want the whole world know that I am Chinese.

This is even better than the "Death of Hong Kong" story in the Fortune Magazine, which is my all time favorite (see my comments on this at http://bianxiangbianqiao.wordpress.com/). I have never had the pleasure to inspect Mr. Death to Hong Kong's picture. But this dude Perry Link was there on TV for a full 30 minute session writhing with misery. He will learn to cope with it, wont' he? He is trying so hard. He is such a good boy. I want to pat him on his cheek and tell him that.

    5. Greta  10/20/2007 03:31 AM Report

      Great, of course.

Are the Chinese working on alternate energy sources?

    6. inscrutable Chinese  10/19/2007 10:51 PM Report

That Perry Link dude is really pissed by how well we are doing here in China. Keep watching dude, things are going to get even more interesting.

    7. Desmond Austin  10/19/2007 02:06 PM Report

Just finished viewing the brilliant discussion about China and, other countries, to a lesser degree. To say that Mr. Rose does his best is to say a great deal for truly he is an expert at interrogating and drawing forth information from his guests. Some of my previously held thoughts on China were confirmed by Henry Kissinger and the three professionally trained China experts, Cheng Li, Orville Schell and Perry Link. Watching the program, as I ate lunch, certainly added to the quality of the meal, however, I did suffer a bout of heartburn, which heartburn was brought about by the "Paddy Wagon" remark made by Sinologist Perry Link. There are of course those who suggest that the term Paddy-Wagon was never used to defame the Irish but I would suggest that those believers are in a minority. I also believe that in a discussion of democracy, diplomacy and human rights, participants ought not use such a derogatory term, whether the etymology of the term is real or imagined.

    8. Gabriel Serrano  10/19/2007 02:01 PM Report

Why does Perry Link have a negative attitude while talking to Cheng Li! Perry Link could have stated the issue without starting any arguement with Cheng Li. Thats my opinion about the show. Other than that I really enjoyed it.

Then as a follow up to the above article I wrote a 4-part series of articles detailing a plan for Chinaâ??s investment in Brazil.

These investments should be viewed from China's perspective not just as another investment to maximize its returns on invested amounts. It should be viewed by China as a matter of national security and long-term survival for its people.
