Finding someone "annoying" and passing judgements about what you think they are thinking is appalling and altogether a waste of time.
Quote:
"She takes herself much too seriously and seems to buy into the hype that she is "great" or intelligent".
Uh - Hype?
She IS intelligent and is very good at what she does. She's not trying to pull the wool over anyone's eyes or trying pretend to be anything she's not.
What's your gripe!?
Now, have to just inquire for a bit "KG" - did you really mean to use the work "LIMPID"? Venturing a guess that it wasn't quite what you meant...
In reference to the...eh..."limpid viewers"?
lim·pid (lmpd)
adj.
1. Characterized by transparent clearness; pellucid. See Synonyms at clear.
2. Easily intelligible; clear: writes in a limpid style.
3. Calm and untroubled; serene.
---
It seems far more productive and creative to spend less time being aimlessly critical and judgemental, yes? It tends to open up so much more time to be creative, where one can then go spend their time making a difference in the world. Then, if nothing else, it leaves you time to look up definitions for the words you think you want to use!

I find her very annoying to watch. She takes herself much too seriously and seems to buy into the hype that she is "great" or intelligent. To me she tries too hard and is nothing spectacular. She over-acts and chooses roles that are too good for her. She might impress the limpid viewers of this day and age but she doesn't impress me at all.
Elizabeth 05/20/2008 08:01 PM Report
Is anyone forcing you to watch her?
Cate has plenty of people in and outside of the business that do find her work incredible and quite easy to watch. She is one of the few actors in the business with credibility.
Funny how people feel the need to put someone down, does it truly make you feel better?

GR- whether or not "Sara's an idiot" is Australian matters not. I agree with Sara that Cate is overrated. Your radar for "your" humor is probably broken but my radar for the "backward, provincial and uncivilised" certainly is not. You should seriously wake up and realize that Cate Blanchett, whose part American, is only an actress- not representative of Australia or America or any country for that matter.
Liza 03/30/2008 04:56 PM Report
LOVE HER!!!! I JUST LOVE THIS WOMEN.
GR 03/05/2008 03:55 AM Report
If "Sara's an idiot" is not an Australian then my radar for "our" humour needs recalibrating!
(Cate is gorgeous, natural and a delight to watch in interview - thanks Charlie.)

You've got to be kidding me, Sara.
Sara 02/20/2008 01:24 PM Report
Blanchett is again out of her depth as Dylan. She's simply not good enough to play characters that demand great technique.

Nothing beats Glenda Jackson's Elizabeth. Maybe the sets and the costumes were tacky - but the history and the acting were superb. Why did anyone feel they had to change what was already an amazing story? It is awesome just in the telling if you have a feel for it. I'll see it though - love Cate.

Emi - May I suggest that you view the excellent DVD "The Corporation" (and read the book) for an eloquent and educational critique of the corporation, as its structure has evolved in the last 150 years?
Harry Love 10/13/2007 10:55 PM Report
I am disappointed to find that programming which I and millions of others help to fund through direct donations to public television or purchasing products from Charlie's corporate sponsors is not available by podcast. Charlie often recognizes the contribution information technology makes to the sharing of knowledge, yet we find that "sharing" comes with a price tag on the "Charlie Rose" web site.

Re: comment on the news reporter with the grey beard who just came back from Iraq
Please please have Robert B. Reich on your show. He just wrote a book called SUPERCAPITALISM
It is about a fact that has been irritating me for years. Why do we treat corporations like individuals. That galls me ever since college.
Now someone has written a book.
It should be read, laws should be changed/
What would the world look like.
I cannot imagine. Please help me to imagine
When you interview him make sure you grill him about eliminating corporate tax. How would we pay for everything.
Think about the commerecials . They will have to be changed. No more Chevron caring.
It seems to me people have decided that we are going to be in Iraq for a very long time. Even your reporter has succumbed to the fact and complainins there is no point t looking back. I am afraid Iraq and Aphganistan have become another Bosnia another Ireland. I think it was the intention of the administration
from the very beginning to establish bases there Mission accomplished.
