You know reading down all the comments below, pro Ahmad, con Ahmad, 9/11 conspiracies, other conspiracies(did I leave anybody out??) the difference is clear between the US and the current Iran state. Freedom of the Press! Not to mention freedom to assemble and not get shot, freedom to practice different beliefs etc. This is what makes Democracies like the US great and makes psuedo totalitarian govts like Iran, North Korea and Cuba bad. I don't care how endearing a leader's personality is.

I think Charlie got too caught up emotionally with Ahmadinjad. Ahmadinajd isn't cute. Charlie was caught up in laughing at times, and that makes him appear weak. He's a weak interviewer, and would much more have liked to see Gibson interview Ahmadinajad. Too nice Charlie. This isn't a nice guy, nor a nice Regime. They are sadistic, and Ahmadinjad lies right through his teeth. TOUGH STUFF. Get Tough. Learn his trigger points. Let's get this guy MAD! Then interview him.

Rose did ask some great questions.

    4. jamesemedp 05/24/2009 10:59 PM Report

Rose, interestingly, portrays the States of his visit to the states; kinda knee jerkish "oh my god, oh my god" he's here. our administration was caught off gaurd of his visit ergo trying to discredit. I think if we listen to his objecgtive advice (know MidE history/culture. His support against the "zionist regeime" runs like a republican who tows the obortion line. It would be political suicide to recognize isreal. Follow? We need to stop with the "Say it, say it, Isreal exists". We all know it does,, and so does he, he just can't say it.

    5. Truth 10/29/2008 03:04 PM Report

First, the translater not only translated exactly what Ahmadinejad was saying but on a many occasions improved on what he was saying so he does not sound stupid (as one commentator suggested)!! Especially the part where Ahmadinejad in regards to how the IAEA asks Iran simple questions but European countries difficult ones stated, "This is not a good thing." The translator on the other hand translated it as, "This is a double standard." Which is an obvious improvement on Ahmadinejad's answer.

As for the interview and the many other interviews Ahmadinejad has had in US and other Western media, it is giving a voice, popularity and coverage to a government that is guilty of some of the most severe human rights abuses not just against Westernised Iranians as the West likes to propagate but also against religious Muslim Iranians including, believe it or not, most qualified prominant Ayatollahs. It is a shame that there are many in the West who think this is dialogue and attempt to show such people as representing Iranians and Muslims.

Almost everything Ahmadinejad states and requires from the West and criticises the West for not having is also lacking in Iran. He is using these interviews to show that what the West lacks (and I agree that the West certainly does lack many things he has commented on) Iranian government has. But the truth is the Iranian government does not have it but no reporter seems to be pointing that out to Ahmadinejad.

    6. OBSERVER 10/26/2008 06:14 PM Report

October 2008, Mr. Ahmadinejad expressed that Canada has shortage of Professors and students. Even if it is not clear where Mr. Ahmadinejad got this funny information,Canada should prepare for flood of applications for Immigration via SHORTCUTS of Canadian Universities.

    7. Fred 10/19/2008 01:19 PM Report

Thanks for the interview. Wasn't expecting anyone gets into a deep conversation with Ahmadinejad.

Brightening interview despite of heavy censorship by US government!

    8. Viva Dr. Ahmadinejad 09/28/2008 05:29 PM Report

This is why Dr. Ahmadinejad is much loved around the world. Although, he is one the most intelligent (If not the most intelligent) leaders in the history of Man-Kind, but he is always down to earth.

Here, Dr. Ahmadinejad invited Orphans to Presidential Palace to open Eftar (Dinner after fasting on the first day of Ramadan). He also invited Evo Morales, the Bolivian president.

He has gone to all small cities, and counties, and villages, and poorest area in Iran to listen to people’s problem, and since then he has made thousands of Homes, Schools, Universities, Hospitals, Buildings, Hi-ways, Bridges, and …I’m so proud of you Dr. Ahmadinejad.

    9. Joe 09/23/2008 06:38 PM Report

Indeed thank you for a good job on the interview, letting the man open up and speak a little bit.

I do not support Ahmadinejad, but wanted to point out the translation really did not do a good job in expressing what he was saying. It was a poor job and also made the answers seem stupider than they are.

    10. JDR 09/01/2008 05:24 PM Report

Sure, maybe Charlie came off sounding a little slanted one way, but you have to realize he is not trying to debate anybody, he's using his "grandmaster journalism skillz" to create a dialogue that is informative for everyone. How often does the history of US foreign policy in a region come up on other people's news broadcasts?

    11. I am the witness 09/01/2008 03:31 PM Report

My question to Charlie Rose is this:

      1) Are you aware of your Khazar origins ?

      2) Have you listened to the audio speech of Mr Benjamin Freedman ( who changed his name from Friedman to Freed man ) at the website http://iamthewitness.com ie I am the witness dot com ?

      3) Do you know that 911 was an inside job like anthrax and that Larry SILVER-stein blew up his own towers by rigging them with thermate ?

      4) Are you familiar with the researches of Dr Steven Jones, where he shows the elemental analysis of iron microspheres from the 911 dust and also electron microprobe analysis of iron pieces from the same ?

      5) Are you familiar with Alex Jones, Lyman L Le mnitzer, loose change ?

      6) Are you familiar with the Rabbis of Neturei Karta www.nkusa.com and also the book, Holocaust Victims Accuse on the internet ?

    12. Analyst 09/01/2008 03:10 PM Report

This interview which started as a set of rude questions by pauses and facial expressions by Mr Rose, tried to put Dr Ahmadinejad in a spot or alliances and the chess map, and to show Iran how USA has inadvertently benefit and possibly for this reason extort concessions. Dr A on the other hand went by the Islamic principles infused into the soul of Iranian nation by the great mystic and gnostic Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Khazars would envy the iranian nation of receiving such a personality for guidance. Mr Khomeini was not a prophet or an imam, but a gnostic for clarification - who sublimated himself by total or atleast substantial submission to God.

It is interesting that this interview comes soon after the Russian victory and defeat of American scheme in Georgia. Mr R tried to play a game of politics in his earliest questions. They were very hard questions, including pitting him against his election opponent by showing his photo. Due to lack of audience, there was lesser inhibition on Mr Rose which he obtained by a flattering and falsely stated objective of seeing him in his environment. If Mr Rose were to be allowed the interview in Iranian public, that would be like appointing him a judge over the Dr A in front of the Iranian people, and walk away with his insults.

The Khazar, Ashkenazim and the Romans have come to the limit of their power. Dr A asked very skillfully to Mr R to show him where he would use his nuclear weapons ? The Iranian nation which once saved the Jewish nation (non-khazar) descended from Issac, by Cyrus the Great, has now won over the Khazars and Romans.

Mr R also tried to get Dr A to help his own preferential candidate for the US elections which is not very ethical of a journalist.

As I watched your interview with Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, it was plain to see once again that he is a master at manipulation. You tried your best to pin him down and he overcame the premise of your questioning. He bested you, just like the others who think they can the do the American people a favor by trying to circumvent our nations diplomatic processes. Here's a tip, He speaks with a dragon's tongue and knows the dark sayings well. I think it's best to not give someone who is so skilled in the art of deception, a podium from which to speak. If you do, you have enabled him.

    14. Sandra Griffith 08/26/2008 02:47 AM Report

      Charlie,

Kinda late. Just bounced on Ahmedinejad's interview, which is awesome,vs what Christiane Amanpour did. Pls remember, never consider Iran as "part of the Arab World" - Grosstest inhumanity! Or "member of the Middle Eastern Community" they are the ROOTs, purest, indigenious Aryans and genetically rooted to the fundamental RNAs and DNAs of Europeans, thanks to "Mayflower" impregnated the so called "Caucasian" of North America!

Admitted white Americans have Aryan-Persian blood in them - unless they are Ignorant or "black". Iranian (co-opted in 1930's from their original PERSIA )- Iran as the current world knows - is culturally, ethnically, etc where Europe ends and Asia begins and definitely not Middle East. Eventhough Iran's population are over 90% Moslems, their religious and cultural roots are so deeply cellular-ly stemmed on Mother Earth they still continue and celebrate Norus, Noorus - (Nooroos, many spellings depending where it's coming from) annually from mid-March>1st week April and this has never changed, since Milleniums! Same time Europeans has their "Ernte-fest" - festival to celebrate post-harvest, Christians celebrate easter - their dates aligned and based on integration of both solar and lunar passages within their 117>21 days adjustments. 2 months apart as it would the fastest horses from China to Persia, the Chinese Lunar calendar shifts between 20 Jan > 20 Feb as start of their Lunar New Year, why every 3rd year is a 13th Month in Chinese calculations. So even the whole world accommodate themselves to George's calendar of 356.25 days a year - ancient rites and traditions continues to breathe - the current Iran regime, however "demonic and evil" US claims to be is simply non-existing! It's a testament of continuing an Aryan lifestyle, not buried, not killed and naturally preserved without discrimination at the same time respecting the worlds new "calendar-logy".

Even the Emiratis don't consider themselves as part of the ethnic-"ARAB" community. That's why they are Emirates, break-aways of the SAUD Arabian Kingdom!

You're more likely to have Iranians dealings with Kuwait, Oman, Emirates vs. Saudi Arabia for obvious reasons! There is no persecutions of Christians in Iran because Christians existed centuries before Muslim was introduced into Persia vs. totally no church ALLOWED in Saudi Arabia who is USA best friend in the Middle East! Iranians as Parsees (Parsis, Persians, Aryans, Babylonians, Armenians, has roamed the world trading along the silk-roads, paddling through the Mediterranean, Caspian, Black Seas Milleniums before Christopher Columbus, Magellan, Ming Dynasty's Admirals Cheng Ho and Yin Ching. Why change the PERSIAN GULF to the Arabian Gulf?

Bottom-line is, Iranians/Iraqis as much as US and Bush Sr and Jr wants the world to perceive as Bad People for decades, Charlie - your 60 minutes with Ahmedinejad is an eye opener. Iraqi are loosing oil to SLEAZY Oilmen whom Bush and Chenney filtered through their process of reconstruction. Oil money upfront taken from Iraqis, assigned to Bechtel and Halliburton and ONLY TEN (10%) PERCENT are paid back to local Iraqi contractors who can't do a good job after having paid their local warlords. It is a bottomless pit of reconstructions upon reconstructions - open end!

Truth is, BUshes, Chenney, SAUDs, Sleazy Oilmen, Warmongers, etc as proven with death of Saddam, Benazir Bhutto, possibly Bush Sr sooner than the civilian Iraqis lying in death beds in and around Babylonia or imprisoned in Abu Ghraib - provened, proving and will continue to prove that "the last suit a homo-sapien wears (i.e. coffin) needs no pocket"!

As long as Switzerland exists and Geneva continues to serve the Bush's "without us" vs. Bush's "with us" under the tables of Washington DC - the like of Musharraf and Current Kabul President, the puppets will be stampede-upon. US will not live peacefully because sour grapes will not rest until they see other nations (richer nations) falls and there is open-budget, no time frame, as in open-end to reach their objective even if it means total destruction! US deserted the Shah and it's duty of Ahmedinejad and his Mullahs to ensure Iran do not suffer the same fate!

Saddam was nothing the bad guy vs. Chenney and Bush. It was the US who educated and groom him to lead IRAQ, then killed him. Why did Musharraf didn't go to Beijing, because Bush prefers to watch Phelps swam and basketball game, FOR REAL!? Musharraf dumped, how long will current Kabul or Iraqi Presidents remain in power is anyone's guess. If Emirati-brotherhoods can intriques from behind their backs by Pentagon and CIA to destroy each other, the PERSIANS as in AHMEDINEJAD is the smartest to reject the US without having to turn ANY CHEEKS! Bravo!

If US claims Iranians are supplying and financing Hezbollah - yet went against Israel and Hezbollah advices NOT TO GO INTO IRAQ - simply because to BUsh oil money is more GODLY vs. the USofAmerican's (not Canadian, Mexican Central and South Americas) rights to kill Babylonians who are living over 6000 years of recorded history on earth, the outcome has proven even DOGs and CATs have better brains than current president of Pa Ave.

Iranians has not done any damage to this world in my 5 decades on earth vs. what US did to Korea, Vietnam, splitting up Europe, Central and South America, Taiwan against China - sticking US fingers causing nations to fight among themselves, whilst Bush prioritise to continue hearing kindergarten stories when a few blocks were hit - rightfully so because 911 was just a pin in the haystack compare to all US had done in the last half century!

Iran - infact has minded their own business vs. the USofAmerican World. And the Iranian genes are still breeding throughout the world from A>Z - Andre Agassi and hundreds of millions worldwide to the REZAs.

What the world needs more of are the likes of Ahmedinejads to stand-up against the BUSHES, CHenneys, Rumsfelds, McCains and show the world their countries can stand alone! And for those who are complying with US Sanctions that Iran(Persia) is not a SOLO man on an island, but welcomes those who wish to share Iranian wealth and prosper together in today's world as achievable without the USA as the equation!

And hopefully the new faces at CasaBlanc Pa. Ave come Jan09 are not suffering from ir-reversible Glaucoma!

Mr. Rose, let it be a convicted criminal on the death row or the Pope, there is a certain level of ethical rapport that one needs to maintain in conversation - Journalists, particularly so. I find your gestures (grins that you displayed at the end of a question to visually challenge him), trying to pace your sentences out "word-pause-word-pause..." to be demeaning and condescending, disqualifying yourself as a journalist in my books. I have seen this demeanor time and again, when the language becomes the barrier in communication, some tend to enunciate word after word loudly as if it is a hearing problem of the other. Mr. Rose, you just revealed what’s in your core and the level of your intelligence - Sorry. I was watching the program with some of my friends (mostly American) and you brought us to the very height of amusement when your long list of nations with nuclear armaments failed to include the United States of America. I enjoyed your shows for years and years, thanks for them, but I no longer consider you worthy of spending a minute more of my time.

      Thanks

Ahmadinejad has not started a war, killed 800,000 innocent civilians. Mr. Bush has done that and more. Who are you to judge the president of a nation that is 7000 years old.

This is the begining of the end of america. I suggest you study some and see what Mr. Bush has done to this country. Your children and their children are slaves to a defciet and debt that is at the least mind bugling.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is our latest "boogeyman".

We need to have a "boogeyman".

    19. MICHAEL 08/23/2008 06:27 PM Report

I can only admire people like Charlie Rose, who in this difficult interview with Mahmoud-Ahmadinejad, returned my faith that the mass -media in the U.S.,is not totally manipulated and people are given their chance to speak up what is on their mind,no matter that they are politicians, who by definition are perceived by intellectuals through out the world as professional liars. Fortunately in this interview many things were spelled out exactly as they are,no matter that a tremendous and frightening amount of Americans are totally 'Brain-washed' and deaf to truths that they must hear and seriously reflect upon, since the 'World' needs a new redesigned America that has to continue to play a significant and fully responsible role of a experimental laboratory, where the 'Future' of 'Humanity' is coined up. The U.S., needs to return its prestige and dignity, through objective analysis of it's mistakes, biases and the humiliating role of playing as servants to 'interests' that are not achieving anything positive for such a great nation that has for a long time played the role of a true 'World - Leader"! I firmly believe in the ability of the U.S., to pull itself together 'on the move' and find the right direction in the chaos and lack of control that now dominates the planet. It clearly needs 'New Leadership' that must fully justify the responsibility it will be delegated . We are all human beings that deserve a better 'Future' and let us not forget that the future is not contained in the past!

      Charlie and company,

Why in God's name would you interview Ahmedinejad if you're going to ruin your credibility as a neutral, objective reporter in the first 32 seconds? And why is it that an eloquent speaker like that is so often mistranslated that you would begin your show by saying that he says certain things or is untrustworthy?

Thank you for giving into the propaganda machine and once again reinforcing that American media cannot be trusted to give even a relatively unbiased interview. Back to BBC.

    21. Preston 08/23/2008 12:01 PM Report

This is a good example of Democracy and how it forces it's leaders, to explain themselves, and move to the middle, and possibly avoid wars... Not a sermon, just a thought... (No sarcasm)

    22. Randy 08/23/2008 11:14 AM Report

I enjoy your show, Mr. Rose. You interview the most interesting guests. It seemed that you tried to goad Mr. Ahmadinejad into an open confrontation with your accusatory questions but he refused to play your game. He stuck to the the facts and came across as a reasonable man who had most of the facts on his side. It is indisputable that over the years that the US has interfered in Iran's internal affairs and even armed Saddam with chemical weapons during the Iraq-Iran war. I believe him when he said many world leaders tell him off the record that America is out of line. And his point that more effort should be made to reduce the number of nuclear weapons already in existence throughout the globe instead of threatening a military attack against a country that doesn't have any is a good one. Hopefully our next president will sit down with Ahmadinejad to discuss our relationship with his country and try to mend the damage already done.

    23. uncisu 08/23/2008 10:54 AM Report

This interview was almost unwatchable. It resembled a SNL skit with the long pauses, the subject louder than the interpreter and the interpreter talking over Charlie's questions. This needs to be edited again to clean it up. Also, for all of you that think Ahmadenijad was a "nice" interview, it must be the first time you have heard him speak. In fact, if you were to watch a collection of his interviews and speaches (unedited) you would hear him clearly state his hatred for Isreal and the U.S. and his desire to have them removed from the face of the earth. In fact, I was suprised that he answered most of Charlies questions directly. Usually, when asked a question he redirects the answer to how the U.S. is the great Satan and MUST be eliminated. Sweet guy!

    24. Harold 08/23/2008 07:56 AM Report

I want to thank you for the interview with Mr. Ahmadinejad and I truly appreciate your goodwill efforts as an ambassador for peace and dialogue.

You can certainly get many perspectives from scholars, academics and other world leaders on your show, but I felt you opened a perspective often not shared in our media coverage with your interactive questioning.

I didn't agree with all his views, but with each conversation and each encounter, the closer we in the West come to understand a different perspective to Iran and vica versa.

These dialogues are gravely important to the security and balance of the region and it diminishes the rhetoric we encounter from our media sources. Keep opening our eyes, but especially our ears...

    25. Lou Thomas 08/23/2008 07:22 AM Report

How rare to see the president of a state on the Administration's "enemies list" interviewed in a manner that allows him to communicate directly to the people of these United States. We are not usually allowed to hear the unfiltered speech of such state enemies. I'm sure that you will get into lots of trouble for allowing us to receive such uncensored information, and you richly deserve that honor, so congratulations!

Ahmadinejad's views on the Holocaust are outrageous, but in every other respect this person is a rational statesman with a sophisticated and nuanced view toward promoting regional stability, even to the point of working with U.S. backed regimes such as those of Iraq and Afghanistan, in the hope that such governments can eventually evolve away from their attachment to the U.S. invaders who support them mainly to provide a fig leaf of credibiity for their illegal occupation.

Ahmadinejad must have had a hard time holding back his laughter at the question about Iran's economy, coming as it does from a resident of the USA. With all of our advantages, look at the economic disaster that is brewing here. And he certainly had a point about the limited choices available to the people of this nation in our national elections - part of the reason for our economic calamity.

Well, all in all, a rare event for U.S. television - unless you count the online Webcasts of listener-funded programs like democracynow.org. It took courage, and I applaud you for the effort. It will help to create understanding between the peoples of these two important nations of the world. As Ahmadinejad said, the time for the U.S. to have bases all over the world is now over.

I leave you with this quote from Immanuel Kant's essay on Perpetual Peace, written in 1795, in which he seems to be warning us against the very error into which the U.S. has fallen today:

"...a Credit System when used by the Powers as a hostile antagonistic instrument against each other…the debts [of which\ go on increasing to an excessive extent and yet are always secured for the present (because all the creditors are not to put in their claims at once), is a dangerous money power. This arrangement — the ingenious invention of a commercial people in this century — constitutes, in fact, a treasure for the carrying on of War; it may exceed the treasures of all the other States taken together, and it can only be exhausted by the forth-coming deficit of the taxes…which, however, may be long delayed….The facility given by this system for engaging in War, combined with the inclination of Rulers towards it…is, therefore, a great obstacle in the way of a Perpetual Peace.…the national bankruptcy, which it inevitably brings at last, would necessarily involve many other States that are without debt in the loss; and this would be a public lesion of these other States. And, consequently, the other States are justified in allying themselves against such a State and its pretensions."

There may still be time to heed Kant's prescient warning.

This is the real issue. Wake up and live in brotherhood with us all, and change your corporate dictatorial regime your govt uses to call "democracy".

Iran already leaved peacefully while US killed millions of native Americans and stole their paradise, while US nuked Japan, while US sprayed Agent Orange on hundred of thousand innocent vietnamese children and women, and so on. Iran is NOT your enemy!

US govt is the bad guy ! They rape your Constitution on a daily base! Stand up and get free!

A conversation with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad LOL. what a clown. Who can hold a conversation with an individual who is full of hatered and rage? Ahmadinejad has no problem with deaths of thousands of Israeli civilians and putting him in a spotlight is morally perverse and wrong.

    33. Lou 08/23/2008 12:40 AM Report

The people of Iran, for the most part, DO NOT HATE AMERICANS. Yes, there are countries that dislike us. however, i believe that this new trend of "You're not Cool if you 're not Anti-American" is getting really old and we need to make a change. We, as Americans, need to be proud and remember why it is that we love our country so much. And that same philosophy should be for life in general.

The English, like America, the French like America, I know my wife is french and we travel there all the time. Germans, like America, the Egyptians, they like America. America is still a great leader in many things.

There is no denying the war did not go as expected, but things are changing and the Iraqi people will pull through this, but they need our help... and prior historical events ,such as vietnam prove that iraq will be a great friend in the future. And that will be GREAT FOR ALL OF US>. Especially, the IRAQI PEOPLE WHO SO MUCH DESERVE IT.

America has done bad thngs but it has done GEART things as well. The beautiful thing about America is our precious freedoms i.e., this forum.

      "What a Country!"

      Tim Rest in Peace.

      Over and out.

I am writing this on Friday August 22, 2008 some hours before Charlie Rose is going to present a second interview with Ahmadinejad.

I believe his doing this is a mistake.

Charlie Rose is an affable, sympathetic intelligent interviewer. He is not made for someone like Ahmadinejad. Of course Charlie Rose will raise the questions about Ahmadinejad's calling repeatedly for the destruction of Israel, denying the Holocaust, condemning the United States and the West and saying that their kind of governments will eventually disappear. Charlie Rose however will do this with one question or two and then somehow after Ahmadinejad evades the question find some inane point where the two can be sort of friendly with one another.

Charlie Rose does not seem to understand that he is not dealing with your ordinary 'heavy' here. This man is a monster who represents in his fanatical form of Shiite Messianism a way of thinking which is totally opposed to the kind of freedom and democratic individualism the United States stands for.

Ahmadinejad does not need 'Charlie Rose' to get his message across. On his blog there appeared a couple of days ago a statement calling for the end to the 'microbe' Israel.

Does Charlie Rose really want to 'cooperate' and give a forum and publicity to such a would be mass - murderer?

      Charlie,

Unless you very clearly pin him down on the following, there will be no more doubts of your incompetence: (1) have him explain his vision of the soon-to-revealed hidden imam and the implications for the world, the west, etc. (2) have him explain remarks by iranian leaders that a nuclear exchange with israel is fine in that it will destroy tiny israel while only 1/10th of iran will be destroyed. (3) have him explain the regular rallies in his country that call for (not only the destruction of israel but also) the destruction of america.

When he tries to answer that the current world order is causing all the suffering, you had better keep your backbone and pin him down on what he is implying about his wish to push his ideology on the rest of us and realize how utterly unacceptable that is and why the world considers him a threat.

Charlie, please do not disappoint your audience. You have a big responsibilty; do not get pushed over!

I think it's pretty hilarious that Obama thinks he can talk Ahmadinejad down. It really shows some ignorance of there culture. I just read a really good article,Should The President of the United States Talk to Ahmadinejad? , that does a pretty good job explaining why this probably wouldn't have great results.

While it is not surprising that people will not listen to or consider opinions of people they have decided to oppose, it amazes me that people oppose allowing others to hear the facts or views of the elected President of an important nation. Prior censorship is contrary to American law and democratic principles.

It is time to listen, consider and discuss to seek common solutions. Normally, we American hear only one point of view on international affairs.

I look forward to a dignified interview that will elicit the ideas and positions of the President of Iran rather than be a lecture to him.

This may be the poorest interview that charlie has conducted in his professional career. I felt he was very biased at times. "do not be a problem, be a solution" as if he was coached by the bush administration before conducting this interview. Yelling at times and pointing his figure at this president of this large and EDUCATED country. I love Charlie's style conversation/interview, but i do not feel that this specific interview with this controversial figure was of the same professionalism that he has conducted in the past. I am very disappointed.

I wonder where these brave, aggressive journalists were when SOME OIL MEN were planning the future of U.S. energy behind close doors during last 8 years.

The irony is difficult to miss.

We are just blind followers of what media want us to follow. Have you ever asked what the reason is that a man like Ahamdinejad can be a president to some country? Don't you ever wonder why?

P.S. His smile could be a nervous tick.

I like Charlie Rose a lot, but I was dismayed when he began pointing a finger at Mahmoud, a la famous poster "WE WANT YOU". It seemed quite unethical and unprofessional. Him shouting was disconcerting as well.

Ahmadinejad made a very good point about dictatorial party system here :)

People here in US do not really understand anything outside the country. What NYT or other newspaper quoted is what US policy is all about. Did Charlie quote anything what Tehran Times might wanna say about USA or Bush. I'm disappointed with this interview and would like to see Charlie's demeanor interviewing Bush, Cheney, Brown, Sarkozy or any of the so called FIRST world country leaders. They are the respected leaders of the Western world and the rest of the world is just a bunch of bull. Iran did not use the nuclear or atomic weapons on any country, America did and so America has no right to dictate who should have the weapons and who shouldn't. This is like saying, I can kill a guy and being in the position of power, I will forbid anyone keeping a dagger in the house. This is preposterous. Majority of Americans say that Iran has an evil government but it is America which has waged wars on other countries not Iran. Please refresh your history. Iran has not attached any country in the world in the last 250 years or more and the Persian civilization is one of the oldest in the world. Don't try to teach others how to live a life, as a nation. Democracy is not an American invention, its the Greek who started democracy. Don't try to steal it and sell it as your own. Talking about the democracy, Americans think that they have been a democratic country for the longest time but did not give full rights to its own black people until 1960s. What kind of democracy is it, elitist or convenient to some. Think what other countries/people have to say to bring peace in this world, not what government of USA is informing you about. That might not be the whole truth. Example: President after presidents have told that Health care system in Canada, France etc. is not as good as American system. But they all told a lie to its people. All the so called first world countries take care of their people by providing universal health care. Only in America. Listen to what Iranian president has to say and understand. I think he makes a lot of sense. The problem is that we are very selective to what we wanna hear and not listen to what he wants to say. The people in power don't listen and so that's the demise of the greatest of the powers in history.

    46. jeremy 05/20/2008 07:25 PM Report

The problem here is, that while Ahmadinejad talks of the 'zionist regime', Rose insists on referring to 'Israel'. If most people in the 'West' and no doubt in the 'Middle East' recognise the right of Israelis, Jews and non-Jews, to live in peace in their home, I doubt so many people accept the zionist regime insofar as it is a colonialist regime.

By requesting that everyone accept the existence of the state of Israel - a zionist state at present - people like Rose refuse us the right to recognise the right of all the people of that region to live there in peace regardless of the regime in place. If I dislike the islamist regime in Teheran, it doesn't mean I refuse the right of Iranians to live in peace.

    49. Hist Ory 03/21/2008 12:38 AM Report

I like Charlie, but I must say I was dissapointed in his interview with Ahmadenijad. First, Charlie at the begining says Ahmadenijad avoided answering questions, yet Charlie did the exact same thing, plus not hearing Ahmadenijad's answers. Instead, Charlie was, perhaps understandably, pretty aggresive towards Ahmadenijad. He was demanding (he wanted Ahmadenijad to support the Saudi peace plan for Israel and the Palestinians) condescending, accusatory, not listening fully to Ahmadenijad and left me with a suspicious impression.

I don't necessarily trust Ahmadenijad, but Iranians have way more of an interest in Iraq then the US, considering they are right next door, and were in a war with Iraq for 10+ years while the US funded Iraq to kill Iranians, plus the US overthrew the Iranian governement and supported the violent Shaw.

There were more times in this interview when I was questioning Charlies comments than in other interviews of Charlie's.

The US history, and percepetion, in Iran is powerful and if I lived there, I wouldn't like the US. The least we could do is talk with the Iranians and begin a dialog to help heals these wounds. Otherwise, vengeance will feed vengeance and none of us will be safer for that. Charlie should have been more of a healer, rather than an instigator of misperceptions...

The President of Iran knows one thing for certain and operates on the principle that most men, women, and children are sheep and can be coralled vis a vis Nietzche's "Herd Theory" of human morality and behaviour.
