She is completely wrong. A better approach is the "New Agenda for America." This is the non-Globalist solution to our problems and a call to activist for Americans.

Good video that gives an excellent brief about the book. The book is good as well. I enjoyed the analysis and the comparison of the two countries in particular.

We are entering the two countries with new technology and I will definitely base some of our strategies on this. I can recommend this video and book to anyone interesting in making business at the global scene.

Regarding the conclusion. I will like to attract the attention to some countries in Europe that are working like she suggest and have been doing like this for years. Ireland and Denmark and they do very well. I am sure that important knowledge can be achieved form here. We have a much fierce competition than USA has and have had that for many years as we have counties only 8 hours away by truck with salaries as low as China and India. Slovakia and Ukraine as an example.

Having worked with innovation for a long time, I am sure that we are approaching the time, where the ability of organizing, handling and control change will be the dominating factor of tomorrow. I speak about new technologies, new products, new business models, closing down obsolete factories, opening new ventures etc. The driving factor behind innovation will give rise for a very rapid commoditization of these matters leaving a lot of production and concept creation here in the west. At the same time we have to master the big scale and China and India is definitely the answer for that and the video and book gives a very good understanding for that.

Looking forward to see the next video and to read the next book.

Robyn Meredith's comment about China "never" will allow democracy in Hong Kong ("because China currently appoint the Chief Excecutive of Hong Kong") is off the mark on two counts. One, she failed to compare China's 10 year rule of Hong Kong with Britain's 150 year rule. Britain "never" allowed democracy in Hong Kong since the Governor of Hong Kong has always been appointed by London. In fact local Hong Kong rule is not much different under Chinese rule as under British rule. In fact democracy in the local level is the rule rather than the exception in China. There are over 1 million elected mayors in Chinese cities.

Two, democracy not only will come to China but will come sooner rather than later. Even if it doesn't come in the exact form of the U.S., it may not be a bad thing. We think of democracy in Singapore as good but draconian as compared with the U.S. I believe we will seen China similarly in the near future. In fact as she commented China is much more like the West than India. I believe China in a few years will feel and appear more Western than Japan not because they will be more wealthy but because they will be a more open society than Japan. If you live in Hong Kong you will know what I mean. What China did in 10 years in Hong Kong is extremely encouraging for this position.

Please, enough wasting time with interviews with has beens and mere entertainers. Bring back Meredith and the many people in this and other countries like her. I for one have had enough of tepid wind from persons who have little character, less intellectual ability and cannot even use language correctly. More Meredith, less movie morons.

Dear Mr. Rose, Thanks for such a wonderful 15 min. She deserves to come back to your show.

I believe she will be the very pivotal policy maker/advisor for the US; it is time to prepare the harvest and avoid a debacle and why not she can have the same magnitude of force like Keynes and Friedman, (Milton) serving this Nation.

I believe she is the living demonstration of how Professors in the Ivy Leagues are increasingly irrelevant for this global economy, which need hand-on observation, history in the making.

It is the Genius who matters, we have seen so much of erudition, scholarship, and brilliance but are these qualities enough for US to be competitive??

She (as Marx in the opportune time in GB) has seen first hand and learned first hand, imbibed in realities, and has the genius to see through it like Newton (it is Heliocentric--in contrast to the flat earth argument) and cut the knots like Ockham.

I wish to know her thoughts in the Now since she is history-in-making (Shi-Ma-Chiang, Han dynasty most respected central figure)

I like to be her colleague to receive e-mails from her on her most astute observations, because she deserves to meet all the Chinese intelligensia, who ultimately will determine the fate of China.

I enjoyed and essentially believed Robyn Meredith's inciteful comments on the current and near future impact on the US and the West's economies from India's and China's roaring comparitive economic advanatage but wondered why China's currency exchange problem was not mentioned in relation to Free Market economics they so desperately embrace and need. Your conversations are usaully so well balanced, inciteful, poignant. Exchange equilibirium was the elephant in the room and deserved serious exposure - you missed IT!!! The WTO should be compelled to demand China float its currency NOW in order to enjoy Free Market capitalism open entry. Millions of US lives, families have already been seriously damaged and countless more will be ruined through the iron clad Geo-Political agenda. The calculus and shift in the production and profit curves looms quanitatively rediculous and is unforgiving and the US and China governments are reckless SOB's. What an unchallenged threat to US and world stability??

Ms Meredith's comments about the coming challenges to the US job market are right on the mark. During three weeks of free-lance travel through China last summer, I walked into a bookstore on a main shopping street in Beijing. It was not a university bookstore, mind you. The first floor was mostly books on law, banking, accounting, real estate, leadership, business, etc., and the aisles were crowded with teens and twenty-somethings, paging through books, even sitting on the floor while browsing. I thought of what American young people were looking at in the Hastings and B. Dalton's at home. They're over in the music and video departments, choosing their entertainment for the evening. When, and not if, we fall behind China, it will be because we deserve to. As a recently retired college Enlgish professor, I have seen the changes coming, but the bookstore experience showed me that I have not been imagining things. I look forward to reading Robyn's book. She has come a long way since Farson, Wyoming, but her Western common sense still shines through.

I spent 6 weeks in China, in Zhuhai, next to Macau last year.

China is one of the most fascinating cultures

to dot our earth. The dot is quickly turning into one large carbon footprint. They have the will and the desire to limit it as much as

possible, without returning to two wheel bikes, reusable shopping bags and three three wheel carts. Walmart was building their 39th store there last year. They have a specific and realisitc 5 year energy plan with emphasis on the renewables. They have children lining up to learn English, (ages 4 - 18) so they can

apply to the best schools and earn the most useful degrees. They are cleaning our clocks as far as work ethic and still have the time to take badly needed vacations. And there employers give them time off and actually schedule the time off for them.

I married an English and Mandarin fluent Language School Master while there and I am soon to complete a book about the whole experience. Born in the Province of Yunaan, where President Clinton's Foundation has done

so much to help curb the aids problem there,

my wife lost her mother at 8 months old and suffered in her life because of vacuum left by

not knowing and not having her mother.

China under Mao was a place to behold and behave. More trauma came later at age 10.

Charlie, before I sign off here, I must tell you, that you were a favorite of my mother. She hardly missed a good show of yours and for many years saw every one. I remember coming home and she would be up watching you and I would sit with her and enjoy you too. Thanks

so much for your good work and please thank your friend who wrote the book. Men, Are They Really Necessary?" You know who I mean. Tim Russert is close to her as well. Your interview of her, most recently was not your best. Maybe it is time to bring her back.

Please keep up the good work and bring me on after my book is published and released.

Although Ms. Meredith may be considered a slightly biased source, inasmuch as Forbes Magazine has been the biggest apologist for Libertarian Lazy-Faire for the Wealthy at least since Reagan, her insights, especially her comment about the wages of Americans in relation to Asia, ring true. We have won our desire to have the world comptete in economic terms rather than constant militarism, at least as envisioned by Rational Conservatives and Liberals since 1939, as opposed to Theocrats of the last 10 years, BUT... Americans have done nothing to prepare for the acceptance of our own economic victory. Democracy in Hong Kong, Offshoring of White Collar Careers, The Decimation of Manufacturing, The Trade Deficit, the Political Polarization in America, and now the Diaspora of the Wealthy to Hidden Undisclosed Locations, all point to the fact that America MUST accept Corporate Taxation equivalent or higher than Individual Taxation if we expect to compete in Education, Infrastructure, Research and Development, and National Defense. China and India will not for long buy our dollars to support our Military Adventures if that is all we have to bring to the economic table.

Thank you for bringing Ms. Meredith's book and calm, rational thoughts to us, Charlie. And consider; Which Presidential Candidate is the most concerned about mass impoverishment of the American economy? Is it time to consider a certain "progressive populist" who sounds a lot like FDR? I think it is almost past time.

I was shocked by the implications for the American Worker and US middle class that Ms. Meredith foresees. The evidence is all around us but she seemed to out it in focus.

It was an eyeopener. By the way,The Charlie Rose show is the most interesting and diverse

charlie,,,,,what does a chinese or indian worker pay for their gas, electric, loaf of bread, pound of pasta, etc... you really gave robyn meridith a pass on everything,,,,i think you are aging quickly. How about leveling the playing field with a tariff on services....like Europe..which by the way, provides healthcare for all its citizens. Did forbes magazine make you and offer you couldn't refuse?

This interview revealed some of most practical and realistic comments about China and India I have heard. I agree with Robyn, that one subtle effect will be a drop in wages for the US worker. As wages in China / India rise, they will slowly drop in the US . The internet allows people to work and learn from anywhere, so it no longer is justified people paying large salaries for people to sit in their offices.
