How dangerously we gamble on our presidential candidates! Shall we choose another liar (on her record) and executive tyrant (secretive, perfectionistic) for the White House? Hillary Clinton, subject of "Her Way", seems like George Bush again!

How poorly our system of choosing a president works!

    2. Jack Bailey  07/13/2007 12:45 PM Report

Program was informative and raises the question of whether we want another President like Bush who cannot admit mistakes. Failure to do so means no correction in the course of actions taken and very likely huge consequences for the nation. We see that now in Iraq. Will Hillary be just as isolated and removed, just as self convinced of her course and set in her ways refusing to listen to other opinions as our current President? I don't want that type of President ever again!

Here are the money quotes from this segment: *^*^* "I think (Ms Clinton) has trouble admitting mistakes. She does play fast and loose with the facts. I also think her devotion to secrecy is quite troubling... she feels she has been unfairly criticized for years. And the way to handle that, the way to deal with it is to just try to silence critics and to have pure loyalty among her people." *^*^* That's not "grasping," and its not "evil personified." It *is* a recognition that, regardless of how far apart they may be in ideology, Ms Clinton and Mr Bush are two examples of the very same flaws of character. Thank you, Mr Rose, for showing this to us all.

As a youth, I'm greatly affected by Jon Stewart's portrayal of Hillary as a tasteless uptight tasteless tasteless vote monger, who does things precisely because it appeals to the demographics, and she's putting on her most charming and friendly act because she knows it's the only way she can win. Then she can relax and do everything her husband tells her. Obama seems to have more of a moral element in his character, and so far Jon has had very little opportunity to mke fun of him. I don't know if he's holding back because he likes Obama more, but, can anybody tell me, what was the purpose of that theme-song contest she had? In judgement of her character, which says more about one's presidency than what they're willing to tell us, I think she's extrememly insecure, and liable to have a nervous breakdown once she's in office.

I thought Gerth and VanNatta were grasping at straws to find something to criticize about Senator Clinton. She's intelligent, conscientious, hardworking, accomplished, and down-to-earth. She's the only presidential candidate I have actually met, and I thought she was incredibly nice. They think she studies too much? Shouldn't she be expected to support the baseball team in the state she represents? I think we are long overdue for a woman president, and I think she should be the one. I would like to vote for Senator Obama after Hillary Clinton completes her two terms.

I misspoke in my comment. I don't believe that "a lot" of people see Hillary Clinton as evil personified - that is more the perception that the media has gone to great lengths to project for many hears now. I doubt too many people apart from the right wing base (conditioned through years of Limbaugh et al.) think of her as anything other than just another ambitious politician, albeit with a higher level of name recognition.

    7. Anthony  07/09/2007 05:08 PM Report

I am no great fan of Ms. Clinton, but unlike a lot of other people, I do not see her as evil personified. Nevertheless, Charlie did a good job in subtly showing how the authors took a typical politician's resume and tried to manipulate it to show Hillary Clinton as some sort of Lady Macbeth(Oh My God, she's AMBITIOUS!). There is no story here beyond what anyone already knows: these guys are simply trying to sell a book by piggybacking on Clinton's "star power".

Reading between the lines, so to speak, it appears that the fact that Clinton is a WOMAN is the "worst" indictment these guys could come up with, and Charlie showed how ridiculous that comes across to an intelligent interviewer. Better luck on Fox News, boys.

Incidentally, I enjoyed the gentle jab at Larry King.

    8. Diane Whitmire  07/09/2007 04:19 PM Report

Messrs. Van Natta and Gerth spoke about the "two Hillarys" but it's more than that. Supporting the war in Iraq not once, but twice was bad enough, but when she said "we have to finish what we started" AFTER the Downing Street Memo was made public was simply stupefying. It was SO obvious that Sen.Clinton had swallowed the onerous spin the GOP had put on being a "Liberal" as if it were a dirty word and had swung far to the right in an attempt to be "centrist." Now that she wants to be President, she's against the war in Iraq. Two Hillarys isn't accurate. She's simply two-faced and a hypocrite. If she wins the nomination, I won't vote in the election at all. We've already suffered under 8 yrs of one who also can't admit his mistakes. I'm not living under another. We need a completely new and refreshingly honest progressive who thinks outside of the box and can initiate entirely innovative and needed changes in Washington from the ground up and owes no one! That ain't ol' Hil who still talks in terms of war. The new color of America is Green and led by a far-sighted individual who is committed to establishing a Cabinet level Dept. of Peace. If war ever solved anything, there would have been just one. The clinical definition of insanity is to do the same thing in the same way and expect a different outcome. We desperately need someone who "Gets It!"

    9. Gordon  07/09/2007 03:01 AM Report

Don and Jeff have weak sauce. If this is the strongest stuff they can dig up on Hillary the Republicans don't stand a chance in '08.

      <br />

So basically they are saying that the Clintons are an ambitious political duo and they dreamed of presidential glory in their 20s. Tell us something meaningful that we don't already know. Jeff keeps bringing this point up as if it is the most astounding piece of journalistic insight. Very feable. At least Charlie has the good sense to push back a little especially when Jeff brings up the baseball nonsense.

While I understand the goal of the two investigative reporters and Charlie certainly seemed testy regarding any accusations they may have tossed at Hillary...However, I do understand just a bit about Charlie's angst...exactly HOW has she proven herself to be any different than any previous male candidate for President. She obfuscates, so did they, she lies and so did they. I have yet to hear why she isn't highly competitive given past male candidates and current and past Presidents. I have never understood why so many men get their panties in a bunch about Hillary. Does she remind them of their mothers or their wives? What is the problem? I would love to believe the hype about women being better in that office--once they get there. However, politics in this country doesn't get more ethical because a woman is standing on the horizon. The fact is she has to get down and dirty like the boys if she wants to win. And it does seem that she really wants to win!

    11. Greg Hunter  07/07/2007 12:45 AM Report

      Hello,

I am amazed at how Charlie is making excuses for Hillary. It appears desparate and if I faced the Black Bill Clinton - The esteemed and Honorable Barak Obama, I would be nervouse too. Barak.

It is a lovefest. The two Hillary's - which does Charlie love. George Bush does not make mistakes either. Are you going to read it Charlie? Read the book and ask the questions? Let the country decide, not NY and DC. The whole country.

      She should bash ethanol.
