I hope that diplomatic approaches are being made to the Iranian government on Dr. Isfandiari's behalf. Working through other Islamic governments, emphasizing the humanitarian aspects of the case might work better than Congressional resolutions lead by U.S. politicians.

      Dear Charlie,

I'm an American of "Soviet origin". I've been living and working here since 1973.

The country I left - USSR had been a budding empire with unrestricted appetite, but dead or dying economy (state-size GM, if you like).

Here my professional work - applied mathematics and computers blossomed. I became a believer - a Russian Orthodox Christian (ethnically I'm Jewish; in the USSR being a Jew meant being a "black". So, my Jewishness is fully with me, but as a racial, not religious attribute).

During those 33 years I lived in the States, the country greatly deteriorated, and from a leader (or important contributor) in art, literature, film, theater, very-high-technology moved to a secondary power with excessive production of means and ideologies of export of "American Freedom", "Free Elections". "Free Market economy", and under cover of all these good things - became a money changer of the world economically, unreliable partner politically, aggressive, irresponsible, incompetent party militarily.

The President, the Congress, the Press are traditionally blamed for these ills.

But is is all OUR responsibility - of "common" citizens, not a cattle. WE twice elected prominently incapable men to presidency & congress, and are brought to the precipice to a bundle of bad choices.

Could a topic(s): what Democracy, Market economy, separation of Church & State, equal opportunity mean be discussed as a series of disputes?

      Respectfully your

Charlie...why oh why does your new web page take so long to download? Am I the only one

      experiencing this problem?

Continued good health from Canada's West Coast.

      Cheers, Jimmy Mac
