I love you show Charlie and have respected

Warren Buffett as an investor and businessman

Take your "God" and shove it. God didn't pick stocks for Mr. Buffet, and He/She didn't donate billions of dollars on EARTH to help those less fortunate. Religion has nothing to do with this discussion.

I heard an hour ago on CNN that they had already received 500 negative emails on the outcome of that vote, minutes after the House voted to pass the bailout bill.

I wish a lot of those irate citizens could have watched the Charlie and Warren show. I'm afraid too many of our citizenry are on the wrong side of that vote outcome. That's a worry to me.

Populating current conversations with this comment at risk of irritating some, which for those (types) so inclined my profit will compound. This is another (wildly) vivid case for regulation. Even Kosher meat processing is dishonored. Religions don't temper our baser instincts - from carnage to egregious greed. Corporate greed via their lobbying pimps and Congressional venal whores promote the human debasement depicted in the video cited below. Corporate greed to maximize profits dehumanize employees (they of necessity have to overcompensate with an anger at their dumb victims) abuse, torture the dumbest yet the most innocent amongst us. Other earthlings. All slaughter houses need regulating and oversight - particularly corporate ones. They mock Kosher proceedings, but most of all they mock and dishonor common decency. Please pass it on. Why hell if we would do this to dumb animals we might even justify torture of humans, err I mean water-boarding err sensory deprivation err . . . . I repeat, please pass it on. A kernel of humanity towards the humbler (but nobler?) among us might help transfer similar sentiments to ourselves. (A variation of Pogo's revelation.) The link: (it ain't pretty - largely because our values are refracting (magnified) right back at us.) Thanks for your time. I very much admire Warren Buffett but I question his blanket donation to the Gates foundation. The Gates foundation goal is to wipe out AIDs in Africa completely disregarding the impact of global warming on Africa. The result of his philanthropy in 75 or 100 years will be more people dying of starvation because of drought caused by global warming. I know he's smarter than me so what is the real reason for giving away all his money to Gates instead of an organization that is working on global warming?

    15. Jonathan Matamoros  08/04/2008 02:56 PM Report

I sit and listen to men such as buffett and gates just to see if i learn anything, I'll absorb what I can get and disregard the rest. They are inspirational and motivational, but not worthy of admiration. It shows how discipline and hard work will take you places but true wisdom comes form fearing God. These are not God-fearing men and it shows! Actions speak more clearly than words. To think of money and not worry about more important things such as values and the morals of this nation are unexcuseable. That's what the democrats come down to, it's all business, and if people get hurt on the way, oh well! Men such as Carlos Slim who invests in tobaco and oil, and nonsense like that, instead of the welfare of his nation, where is his heart? The Gates foundation wants to invest in entreprenuers which is fine, but what's the hold up for all of these billionaires to cough up a couple of billion and deliver more food supplies to starving nations?? I understand there's politics involved and corrupt governments in these nations that can hold down a nation, such as cuba and now venezuela, etc. But there's a lot more that can be done than to be siting on all of these stocks and bonds until they rot to death! where's the justice?? no greater love can a man show than lay down his life for your fellow neighbor.John 15:13

Faraz Hussain, do some homework before you post something about Buffett. You've obviously never read anything by or about the man. Check out "Of Permanent Value" by Andy Kilpatrick. A 24% 50-year annual gain is not luck. The man is a genius and anyone who knows him will tell you the same.

      Hey Jonathan,

Get your facts straight will ya.

You're an idiot for exclusively linking the democrats with business.

Big business is pro-republican. Always has been and always will. For example, corporations and the wealthy gave millions more to Bush in 2004 than to Kerry.

And get off your high horse about being God fearing.

Ted Haggard said we'd all rot in hell if we didn't believe in God.

Meanwhile, he was buying meth and procuring the services of a male prostitute.

It's been a few weeks since the airing of a show you did with a Harvard professor whose name I can not recall. In your interview with him, you asked him about the capital gains tax and if it should be increase in the face of our current economic woes and its inequities. He said no, for if the Feds increased the taxes on the rich, it would be a detriment to their incentive. Now, why in the hell did you accepted that crap answer. The lower economic classes continue to work everyday inspite of a continuous mountain of taxes. So, he thinks the rich will say,"Hell, I'm not going to work for $40M when I use to make $42M! I might as well flip hamburgers than lower myself to that!" The average American tax payer is screwed everyday, first by a wasteful, biased government, then after taxes, a greedy, immoral corporate America. Are you out of touch, Rosie?

For the people who insult the man, I think their heads are empty, we you use agression as a weapon, is isually when you have nothing to say, in order to mask your ignorance.

Do not miss his lack of poses as being stupid, being fashionable doesn´t mean to be smart...

Is really dumb to think such a huge furtune can be done ONLY with good luck, that is not true and demerits his work.

Listen to the guy and you will learn a lot.

      Cheers Warren !!!

Why can't I find the 2006 interview that was just Warren and Charlie? Where is it? It was less than 2 years ago. You have Jimmy Buffet interviews from 1998. Why are you keeping them from your audience?

I have seen all of Warren's interviews with CR . I still can not figure out what this guy does? He does not produce anything nor seem particularly intelligent? Like all successful investors is his wealth a result of being lucky with the market? He said it best, you can have 20%, 15%, 17% then 0% one year and the results will be 0. That 0% year is probably going to hit them eventually.

What in the world is Jonathan Matamoros talking about in his comment? Gates and Buffett are exactly NOT God-fearing men, and they have said as such. God has nothing to do with any of this.

    39. peter thomas  05/29/2007 07:25 PM Report

True comment here about follow up questions. I can see overlooking why Buffet supports Obama/Clinton, perhaps because both are such mainstream candidates, and it provides little fodder for discussion.... perhaps some other reason, maybe a simple "Why?" was obligatory.

But the "Northern Pacific Corner test-question" Buffet described. How is there not a follow up question on that? Does Rose know what Buffet is referencing? Does his audience? Both highly unlikely. One of the most non-standard grist items raised in the whole interview, and we get no delving.

    40. s.a.grady  05/29/2007 09:07 AM Report

really enjoy charlie's shows! kudos for all facets of & compellations thereof! Being an auto "buy-out" exiter, was hoping you would ask buffett what his take was on the latest

from chrysler's new alliance & his prognosis of ford motor as he sees its possibility for a "turn-around"-considering all "factors" (known & projected-to-be) today!

    41. Jason Miller  05/17/2007 03:18 AM Report

We take certain contention with Mr. Buffett's analysis of Berkshire's PetroChina holdings. There isn't a single foreign policy expert who thinks that pressure on PetroChina would result in China leaving the Sudan- the Sudan is a critical part of China's energy policy and they would rather change their behavior than abdicate those assets. Changing China's behavior is absolutely critical to resolving the Darfur crisis- China is Sudan's #1 arms supplier (much of it supplied to help protect Chinese oil company assets in Sudan) and Sudan's #1 diplomatic protector at the UN. I think it would be incumbent on Mr. Buffett to consult with China experts to ask their opinion on what China would do if shareholder pressure on PetroChina increased- we have had conversations with conservative, moderate, and liberal think-tanks and China experts and not a one has come to the same conclusion as Mr. Buffett.

Additionally, it seems a bit paradoxical to expect to invest in Chinese companies as a shareholder but then abdicate all efforts to engage that company on account of the company being majority-owned by the Chinese government. If China wants to float its state-owned enterprises on public markets, investors should treat those companies like they are indeed publicly-traded companies. To treat them as if they are state-owned while insisting on investing in them through public equity is a contradiction in the very principles of shareholder rights. Either Berkshire should chose not to invest in such entities or Berkshire should treat such entities as engageable companies.

      Great show!

I too missed the other Presidential Candidate's name, and was interested in his reply. I came to the site to try and find it and luckily someone else commented on it.

    43. Randy  05/12/2007 09:01 AM Report

      Why, Why, Why,

When Buffett mentions his support for Clinton or Obama and Charlie Rose quickly goes onto the next subject. Any good journalist would probe further such as, what specific policies they support that he likes....

    44. Isaac Rowlett  05/12/2007 03:23 AM Report

I really enjoyed this interview and I greatly admire Warren Buffet. I'm deeply concerned, however, about Buffet's HUGE investment in Petrochina. Even an elementary understanding of economics (combined with a better understanding of Sudanese politics) leads me to believe that Buffet's divestment from Petrochina could have significant ramifications for the situation in Darfur. Sudan has neither the capital nor the power to either purchase or renegotiate its oil infrastructure - China (and Russia) is the only thing really shoring up the genocidal regime in Khartoum.

    45. S Selman  05/11/2007 05:59 PM Report

Buffet correctly foresaw his philanthropy as a possible spur to the individual philanthropy of others. He seems understandably proud of the foresight and the influence. However, when it comes to divestment from Petrochina he views himself as an ordinary individual with no particular soft influence beyond the particular investment itself. This, despite economic instruments such as divestment and sanctions proving themselves perhaps the best cost/benefit instrument for policy influence from South Africa through to S. Korea. Perhaps this position deserves on his part some rethinking or a fuller rationale.

Superb interview! It's great to see two intelligent individuals engaged in a conversation that is both enlightening and entertaining. Greatly enjoyed Mr. Buffett's simple, common sense analogies; and, as always, impressed with Charlie's knowledge on the topics he covers. Television at its very best!

    47. Charlie F  05/11/2007 04:16 PM Report

I attended the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting in Omaha last Saturday. Charlie's show last night was terrific. He knows the subject extremely well and this was not a rehash of old Buffett interview questions. This was the best interview of Buffett I have ever seen and I have seen more of the them. The questions were great, Buffett was on top of his game and the hour just flew by in no time. Great show and congrats to Charlie for his great knowledge of the guest and the issues.

    48. Jim McKeown  05/11/2007 03:36 PM Report

In your interview of Warren Buffett last night, I liked the Northern Pacific Corner test-question he posed. For someone who loves the newspaper business, I'll bet he can't name the reporter credited with breaking Ned Harriman's role in that panic. The writer was probably the best to ever cover our financial markets, and his book about them is still in print!

      Sincerely,

      Jim McKeown

    49. Laurence Johnson  05/11/2007 02:17 PM Report

I found your conversation with Mr. Buffet to be both enlightening and entertaining. To see the humility and common sense that such a wealthy man can possess was refreshing. In our current age of media blitz and spin, where the lines separating celebrity and wealth are being blurred, I greatly enjoyed the open and frank conversation that you had. Great show!

Enjoyed the interview with Warren Buffet. Missed his choice for president besides Barak Obama. Was especially interested in his other recommendation since, I think, we need someone who can change the course we are now taking.
