This is by far the most in-depth analysis I have seen about the realities on the ground in Iraq, knowledge of the American military strategy, the partial successes of the surge, and the failures of a political solution. Excellent interview. Thank you.

Charlie, wish you had asked one more question in response to Terry McCarthy's final point regarding the breakdown of the social fabric of Bagdad. We knew much of what Terry said on how integrated Sunni and Shia communities were in Bagdad, with all the intermarriages. So the radicalization of Shias and Sunnis isn't something one could blame on Saddam. Who should take responsibility for creating this monster then, for creating a reality wherein the first thing an Iraqi feels compelled to know about his fellow man would be his identity?
Terry may or may not have an answer to it but shouldn't that be a question you should ask President Bush next time you speak to him? This is not a trivial question intended to score political points but a moral question that anyone who advocates 'change' should grapple with. While we, perhaps rightly, ought to be concerned about American sacrifice (both money and lives), shouldn't we also ask could that social fabric and trust be ever rebuilt in Bagdad and in rest of Iraq?

One question is Why mainstream media picked on what is really going on in Iraq today. More importantly, what is really behind the support the occupation. Everyone talks about the Republicians and Democrats, but, let's face it, the vast majority of Americans do not belong to either party. These parties control the congress, but the average American, who votes, can not affort to belong to, and $ support either party. Therefore, is it that only money drives this Congress and this war? Defense Contractors? Last November the voters said No the President's war, but it looks to me the killing will continue, at least, until Nov 2008.

This excellent interview with Mr. Mcarthy provides a brief, expert and informative update on the current situation on the ground in Iraq. It is more informative, in fact, than the interviews of the President and Gen. Petraeus last week, and indicates the appalling failure of this invasion, by this administration.

Terry McCarthy's analysis was excellent -- extremely impressed by the depth and orginality of his analysis of Iraq. But when I tried to give him 5 stars, your computer only recorded a single star. Que pasa?
