The Met HD project seems great for the Met, but it doesn't replace people supporting their local opera companies. Singers like Renee Fleming work their way to the Met via many other companies. Part of getting better as a singer is having the experience at many other places before getting to the Met. So, the real fix for the Met is to advocate for opera at local levels throughout the country - the places your great singers are coming from.

I think coco is wrong. Gelb is doin' thangs at the Met and that revitalizes opera. People who call other people "pompous disdainful wind bag" may be exhibiting a little pomposity themselves.

Mr Gelb shows his absence of knowledge as far as opera in Europeis concerned. What a pompous, disdainful wind bag. Elitist vocabulary does not necessarily voice interesting ideas.
