Doug & Joy Nayler 08/01/2007 04:35 PM Report
We have been faithful viewers for sometime now - particularly since we both have joined the ranks of the retired. If anything causes us to miss a programme,my husband always sets up the VCR to record it. We appreciate the chance to listen and learn and broaden our world knowledge as you invite the various guests to 'your table'. However, we have begun to get more and more agitated by what we see as your 'changing style' of interviewing. We can't believe how often we miss a guest's attempt to answer your questions because of what is either your enthusiasm for the subject matter ... or, is it that you want your viewers to recognize how knowledgeable you are? You 'talk over' their responses so often that it is becoming stressful watching your programme. Our wish is that you would attempt to restrain yourself ... ask your question and then, please - sit back quietly and listen to the answer. We understand the guest has been invited to share their knowledge/expertise on a particular subject matter - 'their' knowledge - not yours! There were at least 2 or 3 occasions in today's interview with Mr. Richard Holbrook when you developed what can best be described as 'verbal diarrhoea' where either Mr.Holbrook was unable to finish his answer fully, or you interjected something that caused him to have to go on to a different thought entirely. I think you should force yourself to sit in a room with a large number of your recent interviews and then compare them with your earlier efforts. Then, I think you will hear what we, your viewers are hearing! We hope to continue watching your programme. Thanks for listening! D&J
