I too thought it was a nice interview and I agree that better questions could have been asked. I don't know Mr. Crouch's background is, but I get the impression that he's more familiar with comic strip art than comic book storytelling. While it was flattering that he could compare Mr. Spiegelman to Truman Capote, I don't believe that he was as informed about the medium that's a part of Maus as he leads the viewers to believe. I suppose if an author had conducted the interview, the structure of the story and the motivation to write specific scenes could have been addressed in greater detail. Still, it wasn't a condescending interview where the question "Is the comic book a viable source of entertainment or literature or both?" was addressed because Mr. Crouch gave the impression that the answer was both and appreciated the man and the work. I wonder how Charlie Rose could have conducted this interview differently since his knowledge of the comics medium would have probably been limited as well?

The interview seemed too short, and didn't really probe into the process of writing the book. I wish Spiegelman was given a chance to explain his personal angle a bit more. Why did it end so abruptly after Spiegelman had barely narrated the "hitchhiker" episode?

Nice interview, but I wish Stanley Crouch had asked better questions.
