We need more public discussion of architecture in this country. Compared to the beautiful cities in Europe (like Amsterdam, for example) New York somewhat of an embarrassment. A good argument can be made that half the city should be torn down. The way things look is highly relevant to the way we live. Nicolai Ouroussoff has done a good job of addressing this issue, but more needs to be said,--a lot more.
