This interview is a testament to Ms. Alexander's towering elegance and implacable grace in the midst of what were (and continue to be, sadly) dangerous times. She was quite a warrior to represent and defend the NEA's right and need to exist when she did, particularly in the face of the monstrously regressive conservatism that reared its ghastly head in opposition to the NEA's crucial support of artistic diversity and expression. Ms. Alexander also remains one of the most exquisite actresses to ever grace the American stage and screen and should be brought back to Mr. Rose's table to share her perspective on what has happened to the arts over these last seven years since her book was published and since the world changed forever.
