WriteousMom 11/22/2008 10:46 AM Report
of great interest to me, your interview with guest lawrence lessig
i'll be leading a workshop -MUST LOVE BLOGS- at a poetry, prose & art festival april 2009
i can speak, entertain and inspire with passion in the area of creative writing/blogging, but remain very unclear about the legal side of things -intellectual/copyright laws
but i'm certain we need new laws for this very new time
i could not agree more, that on the whole, as a society, we benefit from and should do everything we can to encourage creativity
i realize ignorance of the law is no excuse, but for my own self-established, self-goverened blogging laws, rules and etiquette i adhere to the following:
i never plagiarise
i do sometimes post favorite book passages/quotes, but always give credit to the author/publisher.. often, when i can, i seek author's permission to post a passage or poem,
and use this as a vehicle to discover & express my own thoughts a given book/author has inspired in me
because blogging/reading blogs is (currently) a free activity, not monetized (save cost of computer/internet connection),
it seems -intuitively- true & just to me, that i be able to share my thoughts at will.. whatever they might be
and be able to share what books/art/movies i've seen (crediting them appropriately) and how they've impacted me; grown or changed me as an evolving individual
it is if i put a collection of my blog posts together.. and sold them, i think would raise questions.. not for any creative/original work.. but if i were to include passages/quotes
-i am currently submitting original creative writings from my blog for publication, and have several pieces published
so very interested to hear lawrence speak on this new hybrid economy. it is a goal of mine to profit from my writing.. but i do not want to do that (necessarily) through advertisers on my blog
it matters a great deal to me that i do not have any advertisers on my blog.. seems to defeat the purpose, if i begin writing with a sensitivity/censor towards pleasing, or not offending, a given advertising company
that would just be more of the same that we've already had for too many years
but i am seeking, and am quite interested in publishing the best of my creative non-fiction in book form
and credit blogs -this freedom to write what i want, when i want, how i want,
with opening my creative writing flood gates.
and find this REVOLUTIONARY ability to COMMENT.. the interactive feature blogs offer readers to communicate so immediately with writer/authors of blogs
the greatest thing to happen since..
ever.
i listened with great interest also, to thoughts re: audience viewers out there who have creatively cut/paste, and "remixed" charlie rose shows. and glad to see, it is for the most part, welcomed/appreciated
i've not remixed, but have put together creative non-fiction pieces inspired by watching charlie rose shows. it is my habit to include credit/links at the conclusion of my posts. -and i must here invite you to read, KAY RYAN VS. CHARLIE ROSE ON PBS, a short creative non-fiction piece recently posted at shesayswithasmile.blogspot.com
THANK YOU for another wonderful show, and i welcome any feedback/comments
