Tom Friedman has equivocated on this war since the start. His clever distraction from Afghanistan as our place to attack, to Iraq was so false and disingenuous that I am surprised you didn't challenge him. His acknowledgment that this war began under false pretenses flies in the face of his early reporting on the war. Also, the constant mistake made when mentioning the UN Weapons Inspectors leaving in 1998 is Saddam kicked them out. In fact, if you read Scott Ritter's account the were called out because of planned bombing, which occurred.
CAlling Jay Garner Captain Kangaroo was disrespectful and erroneous. Garner was hamstrung from the beginning by Doug Feith and Wolfowitz. Franks was an idiot. Read Thomas Ricks "Fiasco" and you will see the errors Franks made. As well, I love how Friedman avoids talking about Wolfowitz and Feith, whom he is aligned with. Unfortunately, Friedman's alliance to Israel, and our foreign policy is clouding the truth. He is dishonest about what he thinks is the real reason. It is the Islamic threat to Israel as a nation. That is his belief. He should just say it.
Obviously Friedman reads a different accounting of Defense Department history. Maybe it is of his own creation. By discounting Garner, he's laying the blame on Garner. Clearly, Garner was not the problem. Bremer eliminated the entire military and police force.

An idiot like this would not get a word in edgewise if he were being interviewed by a European journalist. None of his outrageous lies were challenged by Charlie Rose. This is one of the most outrageous interviews I have listened to in a long time. It was painful to listen to...it's people like this and journalism like this that brought us the disaster of Iraq and for me the loss of my son.
