      Dear Charles,

Carly Fiorina did the critical mission impossible job like Lou Gerstner had done in IBM, although her gender role makes it more difficult in the engineer world.

This is to her greatest credit.

Historically, one will also look at Perkins and Keyworth as pivotal (though villain corporate citizens but entrepreneur in spirit) in that the two underlings to the two original Founder (so is Hackborn) along with Carly radically change the culture in order to for the company to survive and thrive.

As Hurd comments, neither he or Carly accounts for the present success it is all to the credit of HPers--This is a re-statement of how he follows the legacy created by Ms. Fiorina.

Looking at the global competition, both IBM and HP have gone through the most excruciating changes due to their visionary leaders.
