What does it really mean when Gorbachov says that Russia was not and is not respected? What kind of respect did Russians want? When Russia was weak economically US alone gave a lot of assistance to Russia in millions of dollars. They are not still happy. Now, Russia wants to own all energy resources and they are upset that the world doesn't trust their intentions? I am so sorry that Gorbavhov, being a brilliant politician at his time, cowardly defends Russia's imperialistic policies, claiming that it is US to blame. As for Russia's actions against Georgia, the reports say that it was planned, premediatated in a KGB style. Anybody who knows politics in Russia understands that. Gorbachov who still lives in Russia probably is required to act according to the party lines. I am really sorry that such a great country as Russia wants to bully the whole world and uses Gorbachov as a messenger.

Just let another mutant of the Shrub family be top tennant of the Oval Office and the human species gets what has been crying for for a while; extinction.

Gorbachev clearly explained how since the end of the Cold War the US has treated Russia as second class citizens. I would go further and say humiliated them. Now Georgia has attacked a breakaway district on the eve of the Olympics; fully armed by an arms crazy Bush administration. The Russians have finally had it, and lashed out hard. Some might say too hard. But it was completely inevitable after how Russia has been ignored, mistreated, and humiliated by the West, especially the US, since the end of the Cold War. Another power, Russia along with China has challenged the go it alone mindset of Bush and others. American prestige takes it on the chin, and a new multipolar world takes root, not the old unipolar one with Bush running down the field unopposed, only to fall on his face in Iraq and elsewhere.

A man as important as Mr Gorbachev and only one comment on his interview!!!!

Was everybody out to a football game or is this simply a continuing United States disinterest in practical world affairs?

If it is either or both there is a problem.

Charlie Rose forgot to ask Gorbachev about what he thinks of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) between China and Russia, and the ramifications of this new alliance between Beijing and Moscow illustrating a new front at the United Nations Security Council on almost every important issue.
