When I watched this interview initially I wondered if Charlie now feels like an idiot and an ass for being so wrong about the events of that time and for treating Gore Vidal so poorly. However, after watching fairly recent interviews that Charlie conducted with former Bush administration officials where Charlie failed to ask pertinent questions (see interview w/Rice) or have the subject officials qualify any their transparent lies(Rumsfield),I have sadly came to the conclusion that Charlie is either a soulless neocon or someone who is simply afraid to act with journalistic integrity when interviewing people of political power and influence.

No - The Bush administration has no integrity, Charlie. Are you a corporatist or in denial? All you have to do is observe this deplorable Democratic primary to understand the dysfunction, and seemingly paralyzed, government and weakened democracy.
Corporate media and interests undermine an effective democracy by failing to provide honest information, criticism, and disclosure of the unprecedented poverty in the U.S. compared to the obscene wealth of corporate CEOs and the economic policies that allow it. Maybe Milton Friedman was wrong. It seems neoliberal, or pure capitalism, don't lead to freedom but rather despotism.

Charlie you treat Mr Vidal with so much disrespect toward the end of this conversation. Its mortifying. I hope you invite him back and repair this. All these old fellers were right about the situation.

Well well well, it looks like Charlie Rose has offended yet another American giant. I bet Charlie Rose feels idiotic now, in 2008, for having questioned Gore Vidal's judgment. Gore Vidal said the following a few years ago when supposedly 75% of the American public approved of the Iraq War and Bush's policies, "Mark my words. He will leave office the most unpopular president in history. The junta has done too much wreckage." As expected, he was right. Too bad Charlie Rose offended him; it doesn't look like he'll be back.

After 4 years, it still rings true.
