I am an American teaching art in Japan. This interview presents an interesting point of view. As I hear Ando talk about his architecture all the way in America, I am planning a trip for my students here to Naoshima. Many Japanese are not aware of this special â??Island of Artâ?? in their own back yard. Your show will add to their excitement for seeing Andoâ??s work there.
I am requesting the quote of le Corbusier with which you closed the interview. It references the difference between "constucting" a building and when it becomes "architecture". Would you please send it to me?
Thank you for bringing the arts to the masses! I will share your site with my art students and others.

The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is such a combination of geometric rigor and subtle emotion, of the concrete stability and lightness of water (reflections), and on and on.
It's an outstanding work in itself, and when the art on display does justice to it you have a total experience. As the building itself must have been quite an expense for the Fort Worth community, there is not much art in the permanent collection (in case there is one). As well, the exhibitions themselves are hit and miss.
It's interesting to find out how Mr. Ando came round in evaluating his interaction with the Texas construction resources. At the time the museum was being built he complained about the lack of quality standards and had to bring some know how and materials from Europe (Switzerland?).
In case you go, make sure to include in your schedule visits to the outside (gardens and restaurant).
