The Christian faith is the faith of a personal relationship with Jesus. With that everything will fall into place, in following him and his teachings. The Church is there to help the faithful cultivate that relationship, through the Sacraments and her teachings.
Much has been said about the Church with all her problems. But there is not just one Church. There are many Churches in the one Church. There are Churches still in the catacomb, the persecuted Church; Churches whose faithful cannot abide by the Church’s social teachings, those who cannot live with the sexual teachings, or the Church that cannot abide by the regulator’s requirements …
The Pope is not just the pope of all those Churches but also the bishop of the City of Rome.
It doesn’t take much to realize that the Pope alone cannot solve all the problems in the Church, much less of the world on his own. It takes the Holy Spirit and the transformation of the believers through their personal relationships with a living God as has always been the case in the last 2000 years. That relationship will affect our ways and means and perhaps sometimes create miracles. All of us need the Father and Son and the Holy Spirit.
"We can walk all we want, we can build many things, but if we don't proclaim Jesus Christ, something is wrong. We would become a compassionate NGO and not a Church which is the bride of Christ," he said. The Pope is right.
