This was an informative discussion as always is the case with Michael Gordon. However there is a lot to cover and very many elements were left out.
1) Nothing was said about the key Hizbollah,Syria, Iran alliance and what the loss of Syria might mean to the Iranians and to Hizbollah.
2) Nothing was said about the U.S. Arab client states and their positions, most importantly Saudi Arabia and Egypt. What are they urging the U.S. to do?
3)No idea was given of a possible desirable outcome in Syria. Why should the U.S. do something if it has nothing to aim at? Perhaps there is simply no good outcome here, and both sides the radical Shiites and the radical Sunnites are already 'bad outcomes' for Western interests.
4) Michael Gordon twice mentioned President Obama's determination to prevent Iran from attaining nuclear weapons. But the sanctions are not stopping Iran. Gordon indicated they have an economic effect but not one on the nuclear program itself. Does Gordon believe that President Obama is waiting too long? or is perhaps not as determined as he makes out?
5) The North Korean- Iran alliance was not mentioned. But there are those who think the North Koreans have already supplied the technology for Iranian nuclear program. They certainly have supplied the missile technology. The U.S. seems to have no way of influencing the North Koreans. Is this dangerous for the West?

Pressure from WHOM? The Europeans a couple days ago rejected sending arms to Syria. The only pressure would seem to be coming from ppl who've advocated invading everything in sight and lifting money out of our pockets without consent to do it, bypassing Congress. So what we are talking about is rather how can they can push this agenda. Like cancer and Keynesianism this doesn't seem to go away, just into remission, tpo pop up a few months later. There is nothing whatever we can do to prevent a war between Sunnis and Shiites, and any attempt to force the situation will either speed such a conflict, or create another authoritarian regime.
