There are two Jimmy Carter videos here and he sets the record straight:

Thank you Canada! It is always a puzzle that Hollywood needs to make a story meld with their own mythology or lack of understanding..."Mississippi Burning" comes to mind as well. This would be less of a problem if our citizens had a better knowledge of our history, but sadly, as the joke often goes "we never got past World War II". And, consequently, movies become "history" to many and they never know the "real story" which most often is as interesting as the fabricated one. We are all the losers with these fabricated "true stories". Real heroism is much more exciting and inspirational.

Also in my opinion, I'd much rather have seen a historical documentary of the incident just listening to Ken Taylor and the others speak of their experience. It'd be much more interesting than the film Argo since for one thing it'd be truth instead of artistic license.

Not all Americans are like the comments that are being said. There are those of us that know the truth and are very grateful for the help that was not only given but offered without asking.

While it was dramatized, I'm sure that all of you upstanding citizens of Canada understand that no country is perfect. So before you start rolling out the typical American stereo-type, look in at your own country and see if you can honestly say "Nobody in my country acts stupid and shameful." Then if you can say that honestly congratulations on proving that another world exists with perfection mastered by your nationality.

Typical Americans. Canadians put their lives on the line for them, when other countries hated them so much they wouldn't p**s on them if they were on fire, and the Americans are the heroes in the movie and the Canadian role is downplayed. Let's just hope the way things played out in the movie isn't the way history remembers.

      Dear Charlie,

We've been watching and admiring you for years. Our son grew up with you and we call our most precious kitty Charlie. Here we Canadians are, right next to your powerful country, seeing your media 24/7, proud of our own quiet identity, and knowing most Americans don't even know we exist.

When Argo came out, we knew it would be a good movie, but did not believe our part would be acknowledged properly ... perhaps we're not exciting enough.

But, bless your heart, you gave our part a voice in the person of Ken Taylor ... and he did us proud, in our typical Canadian way. Thank you both from Vancouver.

When Argo premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, it was reported that Mr. Taylor was unhappy with the factual content of the movie. Mr. Taylor and Mr. Sheardown, who died on December 30, 2012, are considered Canadian heroes. I for one was incensed that this film, which should have celebrated their actions, tampered with their legacy. Thank you, Mr. Rose, for allowing Mr. Taylor the opportunity to correct the record (in his humble, humorous way).

What a compelling interview with a truly calm, collected and intelligent man. The world would be a far more peaceful place if it possessed more Ken Taylors (esp'ly in international circles). Great interview, Charlie.

In a perfect world we would have at least TWO movies on the plight and rescue of the Americans whose lives were saved by Canadian courage and decency when the Americans were sheltered for months by Canada's diplomats as Iranians held America hostage and Jimmy Carter sweated.

One movie would have been a documentary with the truth and nothing but the truth. The other movie(s) would have taken dramatic license with the story for stated reasons.

As an aside, tonight's show with David Axelrod for the hour was most notable for the clean shaven face of of the guest who looked like a different and better person.

Charlie is struck by the comment that if the Canadian Government handled the operation it would not have needed so much spectacle.

Charlie, a boot Canada--they are not into over acting.

    11. SharkswithfrikingLazers  01/10/2013 04:21 PM Report

We are told that the 'Film fundamentally downplays the Canadian role. Canadian embassy would not close before the six left. Movie plays Canadians as passive. Tickets and passports are evidence against this. Chase scene was nice but each had three tickets as back up.'

Never underestimate those warriors in the Great White North who are actually better than America on so many levels that we are compelled to invade--sorry use our Manifest Destiny.
