      Yes, Qatar!

Qatar's international image is bolstered in part by the Doha-based Al Jazirah news network.

Qatar played a significant role in the Libyan revolution by pressing the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Arab League to assist the Libyan rebel movement.

Qatar supports the Syrian rebels and Hamas too.

Qatar even has the Aggies of Texas A&M: http://www.qatar.tamu.edu/

Chemical Weapons: several hundred tons of nerve agents, some Syria had for decades, some new. Hezbollah is operating near the sites, nut cases could get these weapons due to chaotic security conditions.

      Sounds wonderful.

Rx: Satellites for watching. Drones to guard them from the nut cases. Same for the nukes in Pakistan since it is an equal danger.

75,000 US troops to go into Syria?

      Well that sure is interesting.

So what is the death calculus? You can kill tens of thousands of your people but not with chemical weapons or the US comes a calling with 75,000 troops?

Hilary looks very threatening with her hair pulled back, nice and tight.

Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad is nicknamed “duck” by his wife Asmaa.

Perhaps Hilary should have dressed as if she were going duck hunting.

Charlie, so we look to Syria but happened in our own backyard on this particular day?

"Horne, a 34-year-old, 14-year Coast Guard veteran, was struck in the head by a propeller blade, suffering a traumatic head injury. He was later pronounced dead. Langdon sustained an knee injury."

      Photos of Horne here: http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/12/04/us-usa-coastguard-death-idUSBRE8B302C20121204

Oh Mexico! You are stepping over the line amigo.

Maybe America should "Lead from the FRONT", and quit its current infatuation with self-destruction; and model for the 23 million people of Syria how to construct a democratic economy which could FEED ITS PEOPLE!!!

Maybe we could put our own 23 million unemployed workers onto this task!!!

Oh, ..I forgot, ..the Democrats are still in charge here .. :(

(..we could have been such a GREAT nation!!)

Why is it wrong for the government of Syria to use Chemical Weapons to put down a rebellion against his government, but it is OK for the United States government to kill civilians around the World with drones?

Why is it wrong for the government or Syria to use Chemical Weapons to put down a rebellion against his government, but it is OK for the United States government to kill civilians around the World with drones?

There is no analysis in this interview of the forces which comprise the Syrian opposition. On one view a large share of them are radical Islamists, including Al-Quaeda. Both sides in this War seem then inimical to U.S. values and interests.

Schmitt seemed reluctant to speak about Israel's situation here. The stray shells at Turkey were mentioned without mentioning the stray shells Syrian forces have fired on the Golan.

Schmitt also does not mention the vital role Syria plays for Iran, and its importance in the Iranian- Hezbollah relationship.

The interview does throw light on certain aspects of the situation, but there is no real revelation as to what Assad's intentions are. Perhaps no one knows this even Assad himself.

    10. REMant  12/04/2012 12:05 PM Report

They SAY they've seen some suspicious activity in Syria. Unfortunately, we've heard things of this sort from our govt too many times before, and what's the point of making a public announcement of it anyway, except to mobilize public opinion? It's easy enough to get msg to the Syrian govt, and besides we've told them that publicly already. So I have to conclude this is at a minimum grandstanding by the president and his coterie. Pundits have been predicting the imminent collapse of the current Syrian regime for some considerable time now, too, but it hasn't seemed to make it anymore of a reality. Ditto various regime defections, rebel coalitions and atrocity claims. And if the various Sunni govts who are backing this business are no more effective in this than they have been in confronting Israel, then I'd guess Assad has little to worry about, tho, of course it is hard to tell just what the CIA, etc are doing. Besides, a rebel victory is unlikely to solve anything. Look at the situation in Egypt, Libya and Tunisia. This democracy act reminds me of an aging star still trying to play the engenue.
