The fact that a state like Ohio reflects the US demographically doesn't mean it contains voters who, like several "swing" justices or legislators, could vote either way. Nor really does the closeness of polling or of the vote four years ago, tho the reason, I presume, candidates campaign so much in these places is because they need their vote and are uncertain of it.
