Mr. Halperin continues to show his lack of reporter professionalism. Just today on Morning Joe, his comments on women's issues and his grimaces were disturbing and upsetting. As a regular woman viewer of Charlie Rose, it would be nice not to regularly be exposed to Mr. Halperin and his mostly wrong views. It is obvious he and Charlie are friends. That should not be the criteria for his appearances on the show.

    2. NeilMacCallister  10/16/2012 04:04 AM Report

Say, ..doesn't Mark Halperin look like an undertaker in the above photo???

He has preached "God Damn, America!" for so long, ..right along with Charlie, AL, David, and Thomas, ..it just seems fitting, doesn't it??

He is just now so refreshingly and intellectually HONEST about it all!!!!

      Good for him!!!

    3. NeilMacCallister  10/16/2012 03:53 AM Report

Good Evening, John, ..Carlsbad is a nice place to lay down.

Have you seen Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico??? ..I'll bet you have, ..it is one of the great wonders of our world!!!

(..And I don't even care if it IS a Federal Facility! ..In fact, I thank them for that foresight!!)

      ***

But President Obama's $6 Trillion dollars of added national debt piled upon our children -- just to save himself 150 General Motors votes for his re-election, and to allow him to supply a few Billion dollars to his buddies over at Solyndra -- is just so 100% against anything even NEAR "social justice"! ..It is just pure and dishonest POLITICS.

      ***

And no, John, ..I do NOT believe that "Debt is the answer."

      To ANYTHING!!!!!

      ***

You can buy a clothes washer, or a new car, on 'debt', ..or you can sign a 14% ARM "debt agreement" to secure yourself a home, ..but is crushing debt ALWAYS a good idea?? ..is it EVER a good idea???

      ***

Everybody who thinks "crushing debt" is a GOOD idea, should vote for Barack Obama.

People who think we should only spend what we have in our wallets -- please vote for Mitt Romney

    4. Gelles  10/10/2012 03:26 AM Report

I just watched Fronline on PBS. I confess, the very fair and excellent biographies presented leave me undecided -- the full series of debates will be necessary for me to reach a decision.

The President is not a practising Keynesian. He seems to be a fighter -- ready to win the war against terrorism. But is that enough?

We need to convince Russia, China, India and Europe to partner with us to prevent world war, nuclear proliferation and environmental degradation. Can he do it? Can Romney do it? Can they join each other and do it with the loser serving as an ambassador from the winner?

Our enormous success in information and communication technology is apprediated. But can it be turned into success in politics, law and economics?

Debt is really no problem at all. It is only a method of accounting. Hate is a real problem. So is hunger, poverty, disease and natural disaster.

It's midnight in Carlsbad California. It's far too late in my life to escape dying in California. Charlie Rose is discussing Eisenhower.

Neil. If you will see debt as part of a production equation -- not a final reckonning -- you will know that we will sell enough to material production to pay all debts and solve all problems. If there are no buyers, we will have to swap the debt for something our creditors will take -- else they will have to take nothing at all.

    5. NeilMacCallister  10/09/2012 02:45 AM Report

Hah! ..You do things well, John! Best wishes wherever you are!

But don't go, I feel there is trouble brewing, and we need a lot of disparate viewers in order to achieve a completely covered view of our situation (see "The Blind Men and the Elephant").

Maybe you see a benefit from the $6 Trillion dollars President Obama has added to our National Debt. I have not seen even one.

With four more years, and another $6 Trillion dollars of added debt, President Obama will have more than DOUBLED America's national debt, by adding to it more than $12 Trillion dollars!!

That is more debt than has been added by any President ever!

He has the worst record of any President in 223 years!!!!

Why is he doing this? ..I don't know, John, ..and I can't afford to care.

So sorry, ..but I think it's time we go to the bullpen and bring in a fresh pitcher!

    6. Gelles  10/08/2012 03:37 AM Report

      Dear Neil,

I'm here in Belize with Mitt, funning away from you and the mess you have made in America. Mitt and I wonder about you and your like. You and your debt are not missed. Here there is no debt. Only white sand and green money. Everyone speaks English and nobody watches TV. Mitt is sorry dabbled in politics and hopes you will do well without him. He wonders about you and what's in the cake you ate. Rum or too much sugar? http://whatisamericanmoney.com

    7. NeilMacCallister  10/07/2012 02:25 PM Report

Hah!!! ..John Gelles!! ..Mr. "ObamaForAmerica"! ..now wants to have his public employee pension checks sent to an overseas account!!!!

Hah!!! ..I am SURE that Barack Obama will be following you in 4 more weeks!!! ..with HIS checks!!!!

(Obama '08: "I am here to support a 'more perfect Union'!")

      Hah!!! ..enjoy Belize, John!

      ***

Did you know that when Mitt Romney was a public employee as Governor of Massachusetts -- he refused to take a salary!!!

Did you know that when Mitt put in the work to turn around the 2002 Winter Olympics from a money loser into a money maker -- he refused to take a salary!!!!

      ***

But when John Gelles sees our Mount Rushmore of Public Debt crushing down upon us in this year's America -- he wants to secure as many of his government pension future contracts as possible, and get as far away from the clawbacks as he can!!

      ***

What about all the starving children you will be leaving behind on the streets, Mr. Gelles???

In the midst of all the political interest in who will guide America from 2012 four more years, the above ad for retirement in Belize (off the coast of Brazil in the Caribean Sea), appeared. Now I have to decide whether to speak English South of Mexico, or speak Spanish North of San Diego, is nore attractive.

Obviously, life is quieter in Belize than where I am. Here automobiles fly from place to place to get you nowhere at all. There you can swim and enjoy your time among expatriots from everywhere.

Anyone on line here who has lived on this barrier reef will please tell me truth. Is there really this heaven on earth within reach of the middle class retired? I imagine there is if you're lucky enough to be healthy and out of the paths of storms and criminal activities.

As for the Moonies buying huge regions of land on the Brazilian border with Paraguay (misspelled? and maybe mistakenly mentioned?), this is a story of drug and money traffiking that really boggles the mind).

I'm working on "Mind, Muscle and Money" an open source book about the forces in play all over the map and not under civilized authority. Romney does not need to be president. Why does he want the job? Let him live in Belize and leave the San Diego surburbs alone. I visited an old friend there yesterday -- and had a very nice time. It's too bad many mistakes are made for almost no reason at all.

Or better yet, CC, ..go ahead and watch the 3 more debates. ..learn what each candidate team will do with America's next 4 years, ..and choose your best choice based on reason and knowledge!

Our government is now spending about $6.5 Trillion dollars a year, ..and so, for the next four years that will be at least $26 Trillion dollars!!!

Don't you want to know who will be collecting and spending that $26 Trillion dollars?? ..Don't you want to look real close at the people offering to manage that investment? ..and control the use of that money?

Don't you want to have a say in those matters???

Watch the candidates share their opinions! ..Listen to their arguments! ..Make a choice you can be proud of!

    11. CrispyChicken  10/06/2012 04:24 PM Report

At this point in our history a live first debate structured and timed like this one. Will not affect the outcome of a much anticipated multi billion dollar election like some people believe. Think of it as a wash, this debate neither helped Romney or hurt Obama.

Cleverly, what the media did accomplish is the stimulation of all ready decided people in the over all electorit to watch and listen to more media. Who would overwise at this point follow less of the campaign, until voting begins. The only thing effected from this debate, is an increase in advertising revenue.

Hi Gelles, I just posted my new Blog: “Limiting Foreign Ownership of Land in Brazil” and you can read it at:

“Limiting Foreign Ownership of Land in Brazil”

      By: Ricardo C. Amaral

      http://limitingforeignownershiplandinbrazil.blogspot.com/2012/10/limiting-foreign-ownership-of-land-i n.html

...When I wrote the 4-part article published at Brazzil Magazine on October 2007 "The Smartest Thing China Could Do Right Now: Invest US$ 200 Billion in Brazil" - Written by Ricardo C. Amaral - I wasn't suggesting in any way for the Chinese to buy a massive amount of farmland in Brazil.

Nowhere in my article I suggested for them to buy farmland in Brazil.

I suggested that they would make an agreement with the Brazilian government to guarantee a certain amount of food for China on a annual basis.

The Chinese grasped very fast about what I was saying on my article regarding food production, freshwater supply and so on, and they didn't waste any time in securing as much farmland as they could in Brazil.

I am sorry this is happening, because I am against foreigners owning land in Brazil.

    15. NeilMacCallister  10/06/2012 11:57 AM Report

So, rtb? ..would you care to discuss something that has deep keel, and direction, and purpose???

Let's talk about the two candidates' successes.

      ***

Romney founded Bain Capital, which offers business advice to client companies. The companies he helped saw their stock values show 4 times the economic success of the average S&P 500 company.

Obama founded a 'Section 1603-Green Energy' Program that spent $10 Billion dollars on Solyndra and others, none of which I can find to have returned even one penny! ..most have gone bankrupt, in fact -- as did Obama's other client company General Motors!

      ***

Romney turned a public project '2002 Winter Olympics' from a money loser, into a money saver, while at the same time he produced it into the largest Winter Olympics ever! --And btw, did you know that Romney also oversaw the also successful '2002 Winter Paralympics' where athletes who are blind, amputeed, or have may have cerebral palsy (or other "pre-existing conditions") enthusiastically competed.

What public project did Barack Obama save???????

(..my local library just laid off its LAST full-time employee!)

      ***

Romney left Massachusetts with a Balanced Budget.

Obama overspent America's Budget by $6 Trillion dollars!!!

      ***

So, who's successes are the least "superficial and shallow"?

    16. rtb  10/06/2012 07:10 AM Report

Like others, I always make my choice for president based on a one hour debate. That's why people call me superficial and shallow.

    17. NeilMacCallister  10/06/2012 01:53 AM Report

John? ..What exactly is it that you are unhappy about???

Today, the sky here was blue, ..wispy with clouds, ..a slight breeze of cooling air, ..and a lady down my street wanted the limbs cut from her fruitless mulberry tree.

She traded me 10 gals of gasoline!!!!

What is it that you are unhappy with???

      ***

Would you like to see more and better jobs???

Mitt Romney says he can start up 12 million in 4 years, ..and that is about 12-and-a-half million MORE than Barack Obama has started up in HIS 4 years.

I hope Mr. Romney lives up to your expectations!

    18. Gelles  10/05/2012 11:19 PM Report

We need a LABOR - BUSINESS alliance to replace the current parties. And LBA will guarantee jobs for all -- all the time. When there are no job offers from others, the unemployed must be financed for self-employment. No sitting at home and losing the urge to go to work!!!!!!!!!!!

You think there is nothing we can do but to do what we are doing. CRAP. If we can go to war and kill our own children -- we can go to work and produce enough to keep our money viable.

    19. Gelles  10/05/2012 11:12 PM Report

IF we and all other nations want to use debt effectively to raise production and reduce want and poverty THEN we must make debt as adjutable as EQUITY financing. We do not have to write off the debt -- but we do have to make it wait to be repaid until debtors can repay it.

Sounds like we will be making debt into spmething else. Well we must. Unpayable debt that causes economic contractions should be a NO NO -- in a rational political economy.

    20. NeilMacCallister  10/05/2012 04:13 PM Report

That "rich guy" Romney!!! ..Why he made 11 million dollars last year!!!

Why, ..if he wasn't so SELFISH, ..he could pay off Barack's bill in only 1 million, 454 thousand, and 546 years!!

Come on, Mitt!! ..When are you going to contribute that "fair share"???

    21. NeilMacCallister  10/05/2012 04:09 PM Report

Hah!! ..Our National Debt is now over 16 TRILLION dollars!!

That is more than 160 TIMES more dollars owed, than there are stars in our galaxy!!!

Barack Obama HIMSELF overspent our national budget by more than 60 times that 100 BILLION number of stars in our galaxy!

      ***

That "rich guy" Romney!!! ..Why he made 11 million dollars last year!!!

    22. Sugarland  10/05/2012 03:22 PM Report

Both men are well trained for the athletic marathon called campaigning. For the debate Romney did a two week taper ending with carbohydrate loading. From his scary physical appearance, Obama may have had one of those 3 AM phone calls and never got a chance for a nap before the debate. The debate itself tells us very little about who will best handle the four year slog called being President.

Romney vaulted to the center encroaching on positions already expounded by Obama. This was to be expected but the rapidity and extent must have left some conservatives with a WTF attitude.

Today (Friday 5 OCT) I attended a seminar on overcoming commercial hurdles while commercializing alternative energy. A hand raise ballot showed all but one of the 50 attendees will vote for Obama. This is deep in the heart of Texas oil & gas territory. Believable political positions do count.

“I will not reduce the taxes paid by high income Americans.” “Regulation is essential.” “Preexisting conditions are covered under my plan.” “What we did in Massachusetts is a model for the nation state-by-state.”

Wow, what Socialist said all that?

It now seems that the Conservatives can now find fault with Ronad Reagan, in that he closed mental institutions during his tenure. For if he didn't close those institutions, Al Gore would have been commited long ago and we wouldn't have to suffer hearing about how the altitude change of being at 5000 ft in Denver threw Obama off his game.

    25. tabs  10/05/2012 12:46 PM Report

One was dozing off while watching Charlie when Mr Brafman said clearly and succinctly that Romney up until this weeks debate had seemed to be "ROBOTIC." That brought ones attention level up rather smartly, like a jolt of meth in the morning. After listening to Mr Brafman for awhile one thought, "Geezus.. Tabs has an alter ego after all and he is on the Charlie Rose show." But to be serious, one would thank Mr Brafman for taking the time to read ones musings and hopes that he finds them to be informative and entertaining.

One thing that Mr Brafman said that one doesn't agree with is that Obama is a "smart" guy. One thinks that Obama is highly overrated and is predictable. Obama knows he has the intelligence and talent to be President, but he is not about the money, power or even doing the job (process) which by all accounts he doesn't seem to enjoy. What Obama is after is his face being on Mount Rushmore. Obama wants to go down in history as being a great transformative President thought of in the same breath as Lincoln, Washington and Jefferson. Unfortunately for Mr Obama, he ain't gona make it, history is not going to be kind to him. One might say that he flew too high for his wings to carry him. One has to have substance and gravitas and like ones Mother says, "Obama has about as much gravitas as a pimple on Lincolns azz."

From this discussion about the Obama performance the question arises, Why wasn't Obama able to be nimble enough to adjust his game plan in order to meet Romneys unexpected onslaught? The answer to thst question is that OBAMA DOES NOT DO WELL IN REAL TIME. So the answer for Romney is to get up close and personal, continually putting pressure on Obama like he did in the first debate so that he can not adjust. However one believes that Obama given some time will figure out an effective response, with that Romney had better be able to give his game plan a bit of a new look to keep Obama off his game.

    26. REMant  10/05/2012 11:33 AM Report

I think fact-checkers long ago determined that neither candidate has a budget that adds up. I don't know if the president underestimated his opponent, but I'm fairly sure he underappreciates him.
