      This is banned books week.

Perhaps we will need a banned video week.

List of books banned by governments

"A censor is a man who knows more than he thinks you ought to."

-- Laurence Peter, professor of education, 1977

"If the human body's obscene, complain to the manufacturer, not me."

      -- Larry Flynt

"Censorship is telling a man he can't have a steak just because a baby can't chew it." - Mark Twain

So $1.3B in aid and another $1B in loan forgiveness?

Charlie, this guy better be our ally or I want my money back.

Lots of Muslims but not much Islam.

This reminds me of Ghandi's comment about Christians.

Excellent interview conducted with respect and cultural understanding. I am an American citizen of Egyptian origin, and I understand why President Morsi spoke in Arabic. It is a very rich language, besides the fact that most people can articulate better in their native language. Kudos on a good presentation.

The audience of this program is English speaking. Why would someone who studied and earned a PhD from USC not speak in English..

    7. Upham  09/26/2012 01:46 PM Report

He said he will honor the 1979 peace accords with Israel, and called upon Hamas to honor it as a role model for coexistence. Will he pressure Hamas to recognize the State of Israel? Also, both Egypt and Israel are fighting the Salafists in Sinai. Will he form a mutual defense treaty with Israel?

    8. SharkswithfrikingLazers  09/26/2012 02:39 AM Report

He tells us, as an Egyptian there is no traditional animosity between us and the people of America.

BUT in past US governments there are issues in matters of Palestinians, Iraq, Afghanistan, supporting dictatorships, looking the other way, supporting corruption and forging elections which reached hatred of America with no distinction between government and their people.

Please distinguish. Teach how to distinguish. Focus your administration so every Egyptian and Arab learn how to distinguish. (and perhaps a few Persians too.)

    9. SharkswithfrikingLazers  09/26/2012 02:05 AM Report

I am with you brother--wars without tribunals and no clarification.

Yeah, that might make me mad if it was in my geographic backyard as well as my religious backyard.

If you read this Frontline transcript you will learn that we harbor war criminals:

    10. SharkswithfrikingLazers  09/26/2012 01:49 AM Report

Charlie, on this new Constitution that is coming you might have asked him about what their Bill of Rights might look like.

Perhaps read our First Amendment and ask him to comment on it or to offer revisions.

    11. SharkswithfrikingLazers  09/26/2012 01:46 AM Report

Why no English? He taught here didn't he?

I hope he wasn't one of those Professors who no one could understand who have become infamous at American universities.

He received his Ph.D. in materials science from the University of Southern California in the U.S. in 1982. His doctoral thesis was titled "High-Temperature Electrical Conductivity and Defect Structure of Donor-Doped Al2O3. He was an Assistant Professor at California State University, Northridge, from 1982 to 1985.

Two of his five children are American citizens.

    12. SharkswithfrikingLazers  09/26/2012 01:42 AM Report

YES! Love and respect--mutual respect. The highest level of communication.

Then we came to the ally or friend game and the bubble burst.

Oh, I was all ready for hope and change.

    13. shelgr3  09/25/2012 08:45 PM Report

Charlie seems blissfully unaware that the rest of humanity is not necessarily as pleased with him as he is with himself.

    14. EPatrickMosman  09/25/2012 03:51 PM Report

      Who speaks for Islam?

Not Mr.Morsi, not one Muslim or Muslim organization speaks for Islam. Any Islamic mullah can issue a Fatwa, an Islamic license to kill, on anyone for any perceived slight of Islam, the Prophet or whatever reason he thinks justifies a death sentence. Any Islamic mullah can incite riots, violence and killing over any perceived offense to the religion In the real world, issuing an order to or soliciting for someone to kill another person or inciting violence are criminal offenses and subject to arrest and trial but political correctness allows Muslim clerics to order killings without fear of punishment and the Western world cringes at the idea that a fatwa or a threat might be issued for an author, comedy show, publisher, movie director, actor, historian, museum or even a University The Metropolitan Museum in New York and Yale are examples along with Comedy Central that have practiced self-censorship and political correctness under or to avoid threat or actual attacks from Muslims.

Until the first arrest order is issued for a mullah who declares a fatwa against anyone for any reason or incites violence, the rest of the world is under the control of radical Islam.

In any dealings with Muslims, including Mr.Morsi, one must first study the Koran, the Hadith and sharia law to learn what allegedly Allah, through Mohammad, told his followers on how to deal with non-believers. Teachings from these three sources are summarized in the following response to this question

      Question:

Are Muslims permitted to lie? Summary Answer:

"Muslim scholars teach that Muslims should generally be truthful to each other, unless the purpose of lying is to "smooth over differences."

There are two forms of lying to non-believers that are permitted under certain circumstances, taqiyya and kitman. These circumstances are typically those that advance the cause Islam - in some cases by gaining the trust of non-believers in order to draw out their vulnerability and defeat them.

      specific quotes are found at:

Morsi came to reach out for peace, cooperation and unity in the face of injustice and evil and tyranny, lent him your hands

    16. wizardeen  09/25/2012 03:29 PM Report

      @Tut ...

I am sorry to say...anything would have a cure except for stupidity ...

Point (1) is false ... MB did not officially took part in the revolution from day 1 as a tactical move so as not give a chance to Mubarak regime to use the likes of yourself to call the revolution "Islamists trying to take over power". Nevertheless, MB members were there from day 1.

Point (2) ... I guess when the US starts an official investigation on what really happened on 9/11 day we can talk.

Point (3) ... There is an agreement with almost all egyptians that Sharia should be the reference that all other laws should not contradict ... This is the people's choice, and the people will vote over the constitution. Being an ignorant and not knowing what is Sharia is all about does not give you an excuse to object other people's choices.

Point (4) Demonstrations are a right for people to do.

Point (5) Emirate is ruled by self appointed dictators, same as Qaddafi was. Anyone with some decency will not put himself on the same side as such dictators.

    17. masr  09/25/2012 01:42 PM Report

why does he not speak in english I thought he was teaching in California at one point

    18. Tut  09/25/2012 12:58 PM Report

This was a softball interview with these lies:

      1. The MB didn't join the revolution till Feb 28, 2011 (3 days later) at its Bureau instruction

      2. This's Morsi's and the MB position on 9/11, a conspiracy (7th paragraph):

      http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2012/06/07/brother_number_one?page=full

      3. Egypt is a theocracy, Morsi preaches every Friday in the Mosque

      4. The new constitution, Morsi and his Salafi allies are changing it from before to indicate that Sharia is the only source

      5. The MB fueled the public by calling for demonstration and it took Obama call to make him/MB to recall it

      6. 60 MB members are under arrest in the Emirates for trying to over throw the Gov

    19. REMant  09/25/2012 11:37 AM Report

I'm sure Pres Morsi's interpretation of the circumstances surrounding the embassy protests is correct. Foreigners tho make a mistake huffing and puffing at the US. Makes them only appear crazy. What unsettles Americans is to appear smarter and more self-assured than they, which should, in fact, not be very hard. Particularly not for men who understand that power is useless if the ppl are, and if the ppl are intelligent and responsible, there's no need to worry about power. I don't therefore see any justification equally to press foreign leaders to announce whether they are for or against us, theocratic or not. And this can be applied to reasoning about Syria. What we want is self-government there, and that's not going to be accomplished by merely exchanging one regime for another. I think it's a hopeful sign that the Egyptians have offered themselves to help make it a reality. Personally, I should think the fact that many in the Arab world refused to believe the Sept 11, 2001 attackers were Arabs another hopeful sign. Unfortunately, too many Americans see Islam and Arabs as implacable enemies, much as they did the Germans, Japanese and Russians, which, is, of course, is what al-Qaeda would like them to think.
