I have only a vague idea what Amis thinks about the state of modern US politics because every time he tries to elaborate, Rose interrupts. Rude.

yes, Mart is very smooth, but he doesn't get basic economics.
i find it interesting that people who watched the Democratic National Convention heard "all lies" as well. Hearing seems to depend on one's "listening attitude" as to the content one understands. It is biased.
Martin didn't specify, nor give examples of the (alleged) "lies" the RNC speakers said. I don't remember Clint Eastwood lying. There are 27 million Americans out of work, as he stated, many in my working class town. I see many kids on drugs and more people expect gov't handouts and entitlements. This is not the nation that our forefathers envisoned for Americans.
Simply put, gov't gets its money from people who pay taxes, from Americans who work and create businesses. Get it? The govt did not make private companies. Those businessmen/women did. Small and large business will deteriorate, resulting in less jobs for the working class men and women.
It's simple economic: "Eventually you run out of other peoples' money."
I expect the usual rhetoric of Left ideological rant to reply as our country continues to be hosed by Marxist "distributors of wealth."*
* We need your money, we want your money, you owe us your money even though you earned it."

"Balance over Objectivity"
Same here hepburn, I would have liked to hear more of Martin Amis's political view of things. Unfortunately it was cut short. I suspect that it actually was cut out of the conversation because it would not have been ''balanced enough'' and some people would have probably accused the Charlie Rose Show of being too ''pro Democrats''.
I try to be balanced myself but Martin Amis is definitely correct on blaming all the current political dysfunction in America on the Republicans.
The Young Turks did a good piece on this problem a while back:
''Bill Maher Calls BS On Tom Brokaw''
Video Link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPwG-NoiVgk
''"Bill Maher launched an unexpected attack on Tom Brokaw Monday, accusing the NBC veteran of helping keep the birther myth about President Obama alive by favoring "balance over objectivity" about the issue. In a post on his blog, Maher mentioned Chris Matthews' infamous argument with Republican National Committee chair Reince Priebus during the Republican convention in Tampa. Matthews tore into Priebus for what he said were race-baiting attacks against Obama -- in particular, Mitt Romney's joke about his birth certificate, which Matthews viewed as a clear wink to the birther crowd...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.''

Martin is the smoothest person in the world. What he is best at is describing Life, with a capital L, in a most ironic, humorous way. Those who are looking for the suspenseful plot will never like him. Too bad that Charlie isn't much interested in his political views, I would have liked if Martin had the chance to elaborate.
