Many commentators have said there is a need for sign of leadership which would require a big thing, like the Interstate Highway System for example.

I am suggesting that a big thing could be a National Water System which would provide universal irrigation to end the effects of drought and flood. But the biggest part would be the vastly expanded agriculture which could come from turning under-used land into productive farm land, especially in the West.

Vote for this at: www.wh.gov/DzBD to encourage a path to a revitalized economy.

With the expanded agriculture resulting from universal irrigation, employment opportunities could be encouraged with the use of a new kind of tractor which can be seen at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xq5eIVVvdgA

It is not Mitt Romney who says "Let Detroit go Bankrupt" -- It is Barack Obama who is saying "Let America go Bankrupt!"

The 2012 election will be a battle waged between the higher-than-average-pay public-subsidized government-chosen workforce -- against the private sector's market-efficient and market-productive workforce.

      (..I hope "the people" win!!)

Our government employees are shoveling debt upon our children at a bankrupting rate never before seen in American history! ..More than a Trillion dollars in deficits every single year!!

Barack and the Democrats say "Let's print more money!!!"

Barack and the Democrats say "Let America go Bankrupt!!!"

    5. richard-lipscombe  09/08/2012 07:22 PM Report

what Democrats never admit is that Big Unions are a big part of the decline of America...GM was bankrupted by weak management who did not stand up to the Unions when they were making money...Obama did a sweet deal with the Auto Workers Union...ask the bankrupt local authorities in California what they think of the public sector unions...Governors like Scott Walker took on the unions and won... Obama placated the unions (AWU, teachers union, etc) and will lose...

      cheers, richard.

The topic we address here is POLITICAL power and practice in Washington DC, and MEDIA power and practice on the CR show -- as representative of a popular VOICE of serious people who, with exceptions, have lower credentials and less wealth than they need to be a TENURED ESTABLISHMENT.

AMERICA has a weak and divided TENURE ESTABLISHMENT compared to CHINA.

Assuming nuclear winter or worse NEVER ARRIVES, what Daley, Rose, Tabs and Gelles are discussing IS the FUTURE "standard of living, comfort and accomplishment," of AMERICA, CHINA and all other nations and people residing on planet EARTH.

Since its arrival on Earth of the USA, and its political and economic systems and practices, have resulted in its leadership and possession, as yet, on Earth, in and of, Nobel Prizes, destructive military power, instructive military power, industry, expertise, populations in jail, waste, entertainment, and disappointment due to its imperfection.

Our comments here must attempt to compete with "China Megatrends" by John and Doris Naisbitt (American ex-patriots residing in Austria and China). (John is only 4 years younger than I am, and not that much smarter.)

The younger John is a distinguished futurist; and he has better authoring support than this cheap Rose software. I have to break my thought into segments to avoid a crash. Back in a second.

      Now Comes Part Three:

This will be the THIRD time the following has been posted to a Charlie Rose Board. The first indicated by the date of its authorship, and Obama isn't the only one who can quote Lincoln.

Time To Take Stock Of What You Are Doing

      Thu, 09/04/2008 - 16:48 — tabs

Because you can say it or do it, it doesn't mean that you should. Freedom implies a level of responsibility for ones actions. A responsibility to be a good neighbor, not only to know your own limitations but to know your neighbors sensibilities. Americans are fast losing that sensibility. Democracy to function requires that both sides of a political argument trusts the other, that their hearts are for the best interest of the nation and not just partisan interests. Since 2000 the stitching of this Republic is being torn at by both sides and, is becoming more viperous with each passing election cycle. At some point the parties had better realize that they are creating a whirlwind. For, "If we do not do right God will let us go our own way to our ruin."

      Now Comes Part TWO:

When Mr Daley speaks about the US government being pragmatic about solving its problems or "having to look at the its foundations 300 years ago" One considers Mr Daley to be part of the problem and NOT part of the solution. For Mr Daley was a KEY contributor to the Partisan divide that now threatens America. For one recalls that Mr Daley was standing by Al Gores side when he decided to sue Florida in the 2000 election recount.

The following is a part of a longer piece on pragmatism and trust.

The Rug Of Trust is Wearing Thin

      Sun, 07/13/2008 - 16:23 — tabs

Nation states are run on pragmatism, as that is how food, clothing and shelter are provided. Preaching about morality and idealism is best left for church. Now that is not to say that honesty is not a essential virtue in a Democracy as it builds trust among people and that is the glue that holds a Democracy together.....With regards to honesty and the trust it builds. The US is wearing the rug of trust pretty thin. As Gore Vidal has pointed out the US became a National Security State in the late 1940's with the advent of nuclear weapons. For the first time in mans history men have been able to wipe themselves out in an instant. With such a dire state of affairs it has been deemed that there is information that the public should not be privy to as it might effect their security (lives). From that point forward there has been a slow degeneration of trust in our government and mass media. In the 2000 election, for the very first time the election process itself was called into doubt. Doubt over the veracity of vote counting. Since then trust between parties that hold different political points of view is beginning to fray. At some point if this trend is not reversed the glue that holds our Republic together will fail and authoritarianism will take over to maintain order so that the pragmatics of day to day life will continue. So that is the reasoning of the statement, "Will western style democracy be too inefficient and be cast unto the scrap heap of history while Chinese beneficent authoritarianism will takes it's place."

    11. tabs  09/07/2012 12:25 PM Report

Mr Daley, one should chose who they quote more carefully. For your quotation of Mr Ruben's take that, "The US is the Titanic looking at the Iceberg that we are about to hit." comes from the same man who stated to Mr Rose that he, "Never saw the RE crash coming." The fact of the matter Mr Daley is that the USS Titanic has already hit the Berg in 2008 and is continuing to take on water since that date. What the powers that be continue to do to this day is prop up a failed system with further stimulus either in the form of deficit spending or Quantitative Easing. All with diminishing returns one might add as we sit on verge of QE3.

The question that still remains to be answered is, can this economy survive (not go into recession) without further provision of liquidity either from fiscal or monetary policy?
