Charlie,
Gore Vidal, in his book “Imperial America” (2004), explains that the USA has never been ruled by anyone other than the oligarchs since its inception and that the democratic part of the republic is an illusion designed to pacify the masses.
Clips along these lines would have been very timely.

"Cheap labor and cheap energy made the economy."
Indeed. Still have the cheap labor.
The energy not so much and the economy shows it.

He tells us he was into lust and the idle encounter—not real entanglements. He claims he was like Jack Kennedy, Marlon Brando, Tennessee Williams. All four were promiscuous to a degree that is not possible in the age of AIDS. He was not after completeness but adventure.
So a "horn dog".

'Homosexual is an adjective not a noun. It describes an action not a person.'
Very interesting comment.

'Live your life not how people think of you but how you think of them.'
Not really possible with our hard-wired herd mentality.
He could probably do it because the herd would not accept him.

I was really surprised when I found this:
Gore Vidal with Alex Jones (2006)

Gore Vidal on the imperial mentality of America and the dangers posed to freedom by unchecked power.
The interview took place at the Texas Book Festival in October 29, 2006.

You are right GM_Thomas , very prophetic statements indeed. I can also recommend to watch the whole 26 minutes. It is a little slow in the beginning, but then really picks up towards the end. Thank you.

Watching the Gore Vidal Appreciation was chilling. This might have been how the prophet Jeremiah would have come through if we got the chance to see him on the Charlie Ross show of his day.
Thank you for keeping these thoughts coming.
