      Charlie does the job.

Yes, the fake orgasm scene in "When Harry Met Sally" is fantastic but it is because everyone involved does a fantastic job--a true team effort.

Divorce is NOT more interesting than marriage and she may have forgotten but her children probably didn't forget.

Their lives are forever changed because half of the source of their DNA now hates the other half.

She was best known for chick flicks not divorce dramas. This speaks to what is more interesting.

From "When Harry Met Sally ...": Meg Ryan insists she's had great sex with a guy named Sheldon.

Billy Crystal: "Shel? Sheldon? No, no, you did not have great sex with Sheldon."

      Meg Ryan: "I did too."

Billy Crystal: "No, you didn't. A Sheldon can do your income taxes. If you need a root canal, Sheldon's your man. But humpin' and pumpin' is not Sheldon's strong suit. It's the name: 'Do it to me, Sheldon, you're an animal, Sheldon, ride me, big Shel-don.' Doesn't work."

Great writing from Nora. (By the way Charlie, this speaks to what David Brooks told us about the importance of names.)

Thank you for the outstanding job you and your editors did in allowing us to share our last memories of Nora. She was a gem, for many reasons. I had hoped you would answer my final concern as mentioned in my comment posted in NYTimes June 28, which I will dare to add here (if any reader knows the answer, please tell me):

Thursday afternoon in Ireland, 6/28, and I've just learned of Nora's death and am attempting to assimilate this news with other tragic facts I've recently learned. A best friend in USA diagnosed with mesothelioma, the asbestos-caused cancer that can take 50 years to activate, has weeks to live. On the phone she mentioned a delicious roast beef Sunday dinner...which reminded me of one of Nora's great tales (I remember a lot of them).

On a Charlie Rose show she told of visiting a friend in hospital who was dying, hooked up to the usual tubes and being fed through one of them. They commiserated on the friend not having the privilege of a convict facing the electric chair: choosing her last meal. For a food lover, an abomination!

Nora created a scene for Charlie: after hurriedly eating a tuna melt in a cafe and being killed in an accident on the way home -- the idea that would be her last meal was appalling.

My friend and I love to cook and eat. Unlike Nora, we've fought the weight battle for most of our 80 years. When I heard the diagnosis, I decided to eat whatever I want and to enjoy every bit of the salty, sugary or buttery mouthful. And I hope she will do, and Nora did, the same.

As an American ex-pat, my "Irish party piece" is the song, "Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think." Nora would agree with those sentiments: her legacy is to enjoy life and see humor in all of it.....

Now I want to know if Nora was able to choose her final meal.
