Charlie, you were trully embarrasing in this interview. A huge pet peeve of mine is that you acted like Rubio had no idea what he was talking about with Cuba. Dude, he's Cuban?! Did you know that? Rubio is right. We've been somewhat open to Cuba for a long time, that if Castro would ever pull his viewpoints out of his ass and give his people a real good policy and have some normalcy, but that is way too late. He will never change and neither will his family members. Get a clue, Charlie and don't talk down to Rubio again. Please! Yuck!

Charlie needed to shut up more, rather than stop squawking at Rubio throughout this program. This is a smart, dude and Charlie interrupted him several times. Rubio needed to do a Ross Perot, "Let me finish. Will you let me finish?" Sheesh, Charlie, a great moderator listens before jumping in every 15 seconds. He acts like he is going to forget his next question. Shut up!

The immigration law does not have to be perfect but perfectible.
One step at a time. One day at a time.
Good government not making government the problem.
SharkswithfrikingLazers 06/28/2012 02:34 AM Report
Oh Charlie you captured my heart when you asked,
"Why shouldn’t we expect more from you?"
Please ask this question to every member of Congress and often.
SharkswithfrikingLazers 06/28/2012 02:30 AM Report
Charlie, when he told you the real money is in entitlements you should have played some clips from your interview with Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles and asked for a response.
“The defense budget of the United States is about $760 billion and the top 14 countries in the world are less, including Russia and China; $540 billion is the figure for all defense in the largest 14 countries other than us, and ours is 760. I mean, don’t let anybody tell you we're hollowing out anything unless it’s your brain."
SharkswithfrikingLazers 06/28/2012 02:22 AM Report
YES! He is right, 'you have to be for something and you have to do something.'
$174K for each member of a do nothing Congress is a bit expensive don't you think?

Marco raised taxes twice (and lied twice too).

Now comes the part where some folks need to wake up from their delusional state. What Rubio demonstrated is he is skilled at talking very fast and saying nothing. He's a perfect fit for the Republican/Tparty especially the ones who want the Government out of their Medicare.

To Senator RUbio. How can you say that the border is porous, while at the same time say that net crossings has been "zero"? Also how can you say that the job is to first win the confidence of public that the government will address immigration, when the number of "boots on the ground" at the border is higher than it has ever been?

Now comes part Four:
Here is the bad news, the US in particular will not be able to TAX, CUT nor GROW its way out of the current Deficit and Debt problem. One part of that equation is that economic Growth is now being stymied by the size of the deficit and debt. Another part of that equation which one has previously stated and was reaffirmed by Senator Rubio is that everyday that passes the ship sinks deeper into the water, which further limits the options available and will be evermore painful to enact.
The US economy since 2008 has been defibrillated by the US government and Federal Reserve with Stimulus, including an ongoing larger than life Deficit and multiple infusions of Liquidity through Fed action. All of which have failed to create sustainable growth in the US economy once the "sugar high" of the defib has worn off. This is the 3rd Summer where the "Green Shoots of Spring" have withered in the summer sun, and the populace is now growing resigned to the fact of an ongoing, unresolvable by the "Conventional Wisdom" economic tools malaise. The question now becomes, can the US economy sustain itself without going into recession or depression without US governmental or Fed action? If the only way to sustain the economy is through ongoing action by these various agencies it is only a matter of time before the exhaustion of resources and or confidence in the value of Full Faith of the US takes place. Otherwise if the economy is able to sustain itself with no to slow growth it will take time to work off the hangover of debt and will lead to a readjustment of American expectations and lifstyle.

Now Comes part Three:
Isn't it interesting that zealots on both sides of the political spectrum subscribe the same zealotry to the opposite side of the political spectrum without discernment as to the underlying veracity of the individual's position?
One would has to answer, YES there are those in the Tea Party movement that have traded in their zeal for Bible thumping for thumping on Economics Books. That was the essence of MS Bachman's failure for gaining traction in her bid for for the Presidency. Ms Bachman stood on principle for principles sake and not on the attainment of achieving the goal, which is putting America back on a sustainable fiscal and now monetary path.
To which one wrote, posted and sent to the usual supsects including a leading Tea Party Congressional Represenative from Florida the following on or about the date indicated.
NEWS FLASH ...Lions Eat Republicans

"Here in the Colosseum we call em as we see em." Tom Waits
Jesus said, "When in Washington DC one should be as wise as a Serpent and as meek as a Lamb." To that end the Republican House (Tea Party) have marched the football down field on two different occasions now (Debt Ceiling, Payroll Tax Cut). On both occasions they were stalled out at 4Th and Goal. So what should they have done, gone for the Touchdown on PRINCIPLE or kicked the Field Goal, taking the points and field position for November 2012 election? If one were to make an analysis of strengths and weaknesses, they would come to the conclusion that the Republicans do not control the Senate nor the White House, therefore the House alone does not have the offensive line to push the ball over the goal. Second the House Tea Party should realize that the American people understand the position that the Republicans in the House are in, and that is one where they have limited ability to rectify deficit spending and budget issues Thus the Republican House should have put PRINCIPLE aside for the moment and gone for the points in order to WIN THE GAME in November of 2012. Being able to implement the Tea Party agenda is the goal and NOT THEIR PRINCIPLES. So what has the House Tea Party done on two different occasions on 4Th and Goal, but stuck to principle and fumbled the football of public opinion away which is tantamount to the Christians being fed to the Lions. Being a meal for the Lions is not what the Tea Party members of House were sent to Washington DC to do. Strike two on the Tea Party, as they are now risking defeat in the 2012 elections by a fed up American electorate.

Now comes Part Two:
There were a number of topics in this interview that one could drill down into. One has choices to make as to which topic or observation speaks as the underlying tenet of an interview. Sometimes it is not the topic itself that needs to be addressed but the essence of personalities involved. Here one chose to represent the interviewee rather than the interviewer as being the most important. Thus it did not escape ones attention that the old Rooster Charlie got his feathers a bit ruffled during the Rubio interview.
Yes Mr Rose does exhibit an East Coast "Conventional Wisdom" Liberal orientated bias and as such does not tend to believe and or take to heart anything that does not fall into the parameters of that perception (would one expect anything different if one only traveled and or was cloistered among the social and professional stratus that holds that perception of the world?). THAT IS UNTIL that REALITY come up and bites him on the azz..Then Mr Rose does try to make sense of it. Here one has noticed that over the last several years Mr Rose mas been moving away from a more visceral sense of the world to a deeper understanding of how the under lying cross currents, events and the deeper motivations of the players shape the world that we live in.
Here one thinks that Mr Rose does realize or should anyway realize that loyalty is a two way street.

Some of Charlie's most astute questions to Rubio: "So tell me how your mother feels about Medicare." Great question Charlie. Do you stay up at night coming up with these questions?
efeinbe2 06/27/2012 05:05 PM Report
Rubio has a knack for sounding like he's interested in bipartisanship, but you peel away the layers a see that he's as much of an ideologue as any of the Tea Partiers. For all the fanfare about him, I am forced to conclude that there's nothing new here.
Litehart 06/27/2012 05:00 PM Report
Charlie, stop trying to stuff words into the mouths of your guests. Let them speak, for God's sake, and stop twisting their words. Maybe you should stay on shows about the Brain. At least you stay on the trail for the truth.
Litehart 06/27/2012 04:55 PM Report
While I very much enjoy Charlie's shows and selection of guests, I REALLY wish he could exercise valid journalistic discipline by controlling his clearly liberal bent. He would do well to view his own past shows and observe his change to a clearly aggressive approach to any quest identified as a non-liberal. Come on Charlie . . . you're better than that (unless the real purpose of your show is to promote liberal policies and champions.).
tabs 06/27/2012 04:22 PM Report
The basis of Mr Rubios ambition if one can call it that is to fulfill the promise of living up to the sacrafice that his parents made for him so that he could succeed. The only thing that My Rubio doesn't say or maybe even realize is that this is not just a Hispanic dream for their children but a UNIVERSAL dream for parents (especially those who are immigrants). In the end this is very close to the underlying rational for the reason why JFK ran for President (Joe Kennedy so wanted one of his sons to succeed to a position that he could not achieve himself and as such did everything he could to facilitate that dream).
Further the reason for Mr Rubios success is that his positions are very well thought out and as such are very well defined. One might add his positions/perceptions are not skewed by an underlying unresolved emotional bias. Which in the end does not make him a prisoner to an ideological percepts.
zb1 06/27/2012 02:35 PM Report
I have to say this was really the first time I've listened to this guy and actually how to keep turning it off because it was so idiotic. Rubio is as phony as a three dollar bill which is no surprise since he’s been a politician almost his entire life. And what a whiner. I don't think I have heard anyone talk so much as so fast and not actually say anything, except perhaps, Romney.
Forget the fact his whole life storyline is made up. Did you get how he kept saying he felt for the plight of illegal immigrants. Too bad he didn't have a single offer of what to do about it. His solution: first we have to secure the boarders before we can talk about what to do with the 12 million people already here.
That's pretty much his answer and Republican Party's answer to every problem: first we have to get rid of healthcare and then we will tell you what we will do about it; first we have to kill Medicare and social security and then we will tell you how we will fix it; first we have to give tax cuts to the wealthy and then we will tell you how that is supposed to help create jobs.
I love when he blamed the President for not fixing immigration when he and the Republicans did everything possible to block any legislations which is just about what they have done on everything for the last 4 years. Guys like Rubio and the rest of the teaparty gang of liars and hypocrites (you know the ones: retires on SS and Medicare shouting "keep the government out of my healthcare", or in Rubio's case is father and parents lived off of those programs)
I hope Romney picks him for VP then we can have big rich phony and little phony running together on the same ticket. together, they make me sick and after this interview there was no doubt about it.
REMant 06/27/2012 12:21 PM Report
He went all over immigration Sunday morning. I differ because I think immigration is being used, and history clearly reveals has always been used, by the Democrats to lever political change, both in this country and overseas. It is a component of imperialist globalization. While there's no doubt some nativism involved in the opposition, it is the same as the rest of the culture war defining our politics, at bottom a matter of resisting coercion and the employment of financial leverage to override families, communities and peoples. Republicans are not opposed to free trade; their opponents are. It is just another example of the velvet glove of the reform, philanthropic and missionary program.
And it's the problem with the economy as well. We are in the situation we are, because we can't pay our debts. It will do no good to create more indebtedness, which in the present circumstance can only be accomplished by printing money. Debt is a tax. What else could it be? Printing money creates debt. Continuing to do so will increase, not decrease, the ability to repay it, increase unemployment and increase the risk of catastrophic inflation. Growth, in this context, seems to have become a weasel word.
Kennedy's tax proposals would have been called voodoo economics in the Reagan era. (See http://www.wnd.com/2004/07/25640/ for quotations.) But there was nothing new about the concept even then. Alexander the Great mentioned the idea. Since they comprised both personal and corporate cuts, the question of whether they were designed to be demand- or supply-side is irrelevant, except to those who insist that Kennedy must have been a Keynesian like themselves. I doubt the tax rates, tho admittedly quite high, had much to do with the recession of the time anyway. Less debatable is that the Johnson admin's spending set the US on the path to the "oil shocks" and stagflation of the '70s.
Batista was a dictator. As in Vietnam and much of the rest of the Far East, we blew the chance presented by the Cuban revolution. And if we would simply declare this ridiculous war over, I think Cuba would go the way Vietnam has. Besides that I am not at all sure Latin America doesn't need more Hugo Chavez's at this juncture.
I think it unlikely the selection of Sen Rubio will make much difference to Romney, tho if some polling is correct he will need to do much better with this demographic to win. But, to me, the youthful senator - young enough to be presumptive nominee's son - has more in common with both Romney and Barrack Obama four years ago than I care to see.
