It was written by Aaron Sorkin.
Now check out Aaron Sorkin's writing via Stephen Colbert at the 4:19 mark:

If you believe Will McAvoy, the news anchor on Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom, the United States is tops in just three things: "number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending."
Actually, McAvoy is forgetting a litany of other horrible metrics in which the United States ranks first. There’s also obesity, divorce, illegal drug use, pornography, student loan debt—the list goes on.
BUT COME ON!
America is still the best in the world in these 24 weird, surprising, and inspiring categories.

Charlie, why did you edit out you answer to Sorkin's legitimate and relevant question about Romney and his point on fairness in the news?
I've been watching you show everyday for the last 10 years. I've never been more disappointed. So much so that I had to create and account to just post this comment.
Anybody else agree with me on this? (i see a couple of people post on the subject so far)

Love Newsroom! Possible great hit if Sorkin doesn't steal failure from the jaws of success by starting a flame war/provoking the internet generation and those of us who are very well read, thank you very much, who love technology and the web because it provides access to international news, education, culture, images, etc. that I for one would otherwise be unable to access.
Self-sabotage is a character defect, Mr. Sorkin, even when your observations are accurate. Just because we can say some things (criticisms of internet users) does not mean that we necessarily should say those very things - especially when HBO is heavily advertising this show on the web and especially via iTunes. Rather it is responsibility of elders not to attack youth and youthful pursuits, but rather to educate and to lead. It is that paucity of leadership that is the keystone of the Newsroom concept. Let's act like grown ups even if we do not feel like them yet, and be deeply grateful for the subject matter current literary and anti-intellectual trends in America have provided for Newsroom scripts!

Charlie, when Mr. Sorkin posed the example of Mitt Romney stating that the federal government had nothing to do with hiring policemen, firefighters and teacher, he turned and asked you, where is the Charlie Rose saying, “The candidate running for president said this…he’s either lying or mistaken.” Your response was edited out. Why did you edit out your answer?

Charlie, I recently saw you in the new PBS ad.
Perhaps they should be interviewing you on how it should be done?

i am building a bridge for final fantasy. A flood is necessary to provide energy for start. Think and believe are two motion vectors at the right angle(90 degree).

Mr. Sorkin's life's work is putting words on paper, not speaking them. I want to hear his message and will put up with the uh's. If you listen to his message, after a while you don't even hear the uh's. The man is who he is, not who you want him to be.
Most of us have never been in a newsroom, so won't know if what they portray is authentic or not. I care about dialogue and acting, not so much the setting.

This conversation stimulated intense interest on my part to watch the T.V. program. Unfortunately, my locality does not
have cable access...sigh. And I don't have the right satellite dish. However, I rely on this program for a thoughtful taste of ideas and creativity out there. I enjoyed the shared insights into auditioning, casting, script-writing. Wonderful, memorable conversation!

Mr. Sorkin, your "UH, UH, UH's" make this interview almost unwatchable. For the love of god, man, your life's work revolves around words...

"Where is the Charlie Rose who asks the candidate ..." Funny you chose not to answer the hypothetical posed by Sorkin during your discussion of the "bias of fairness". In fact, not funny at all.
REMant 06/22/2012 11:15 AM Report
I think this is very wishful thinking. I don't suppose any of them have ever been in a TV newsroom.
