Another Christensen group is about to start up with innovation.

      1. Christensen suffered a stroke a while back and recovering. he had to relearn his speech. be understandable.

      2. he pointed out some Christians would cut themselves some slacks to do the unethical then turned around to ask God for forgiveness to make themselves feel good. why not do the right thing 100% all the time and keep on cutting yourself the slack. very accurate assessment.

      3. long term vs short term. there may be a lot of halo effect in this debate. if one succeeds in the end, one may be praised to take a long term view and succeed. however, if one fails, one is condemned as stubborn, loss of all senses of reality, not able to change with times etc. may be in the end, it is all "grace" of the God (aka random luck).

Paris' preparation for Trojan War. Ask Poseidon to build walls around Troy. Make the bait of golden crown on hook to lure Ares standing on the side of Troy in the war. The characteristic of purity of Gods is teased by Paris' inhesitant decision to give Ares the crown. Above all, the reason for the judgement of Paris is clearly understood. When having indestructible defense to enemy, seeing lethal point of enemy from Helen, and having golden tooth to kill, troy is unconquerable.

“How Will You Measure Your Life?”

      I won't because I don't need to measure it.

      Your assumption insults my intelligence.

More arrogance when "all we are is dust in the wind" or as you may say, just taking one small step on becoming a God.

We are told, “You can’t teach ethics at a place like Harvard Business School. What you can teach is why is it so important to hold to your standards 100% of the time.”

Perhaps he should take his message to his own Mormon church.

Mormons attacked 120 pioneers and killed them all. Horrific crime. Summer of 1857 wagon train from Arkansas. Rumors that they were involved in Hans Mill massacre. Valley called Mountain Meadow. Seige for five days. 120 dead within minutes. Rumors that these people killed Joseph Smith. Bloody stain on the history of the Mormons.

Mormons own brothels. Owned by Mormon landlords. Hire prostitutes to trap federal officials. Plural marriage was immoral and trap them with prostitutes so could argue you are the moral hypocrites. 1890 God told Wilford no more polygamy and must put it in the state constitution. Became a state in 1896.

Mormon banks finance mob-owned hotels and casinos in Las Vegas. 1954 Perry Thomas Bank of Las Vegas. The Mormons built modern Las Vegas. Mormon church made millions in profits and tithes.

Always remember to never, ever look in the mirror first.

He says he was a classmate with Jeff Skilling at Harvard Business School. What is important is that Jeff never intended to end up where he ended up.

      WHAT?

Everyone knows that Harvard trains you to be the best corporate criminal that greed can create. Jeff never intended to end up in jail because he aced the greed and deception final at HBS. He was a HBS superstar so of course he never thought he would end up in jail for 25 years.

Too bad he didn't take honesty and humility. Whoops, that was taken out of the core curriculum decades ago.

Wow the three horseman: cancer, stroke and heart disease. And this guy is a Mormon with a code of conduct and some dietary restrictions.

      Scares me.

However, he looks great and sounds great.

Definitely worth thinking about from an individual and organizational perspective... Focus on building in the context more than the details content is so true for many learning experiences and education systems.

Interesting thoughts on ethics at HBS. At least someone is admitting that this guys are greedy at every sense of the word. Nothing wrong with it as longest people don't get hurt. Maybe ethics are irrelevant after all.

Mr Roses asks what is the thing that motivates people the most? The answer we get from Mr Christensen is a bit garbled in its succinct clarity, but achievement and relationship with ones spouse and children is about as good as it gets. The answer without elaboration to that question Mr Rose is LOVE AND OR THE LACK OF LOVE.

Further Mr Christensen does struggle with those lions in the night, but he does not even know what he has stumbled upon. He talks about making the right for himself ethical choice when in college and being faced with a series of similar choices throughout his life. Then he goes on to talk about looking at the long view of the payoff from the day to day investing in ones children. Here if one recalls ones discussion concerning the Arc of History and how decision makers are myopic being caught up in their day to day tasks and concerns. Further how bad decision making eventually becomes a conventional wisdom which breeds bad decision makers. In other words each decision builds upon the last each setting the parameters of the next. In other words Mr Christensen should see how that simple ethical choice of his back when can be writ large onto the decision making at the business if not the nation state level.

Finally one has to ask what is Mr Christensens academic speciality again. If one didn't know it was Business one would say it was Psychology. One actually got more useful information about working through process and mechanism than anything Roses Brain Series has offered so far.

This reminded of the time in microeconomics when the professor attempted to explain that certain things could not be valued and hence had to be left out of the economic equation, which made me think of all those times when some humanities prof had made the same comment about economics. Doesn't seem to get us anywhere.
