WELCOME TO PRINCE AND PRINCESS. As to some of the preceding comments appearing at this site from some of the more insensitive viewers of the Charlie Rose Show, one hopes that those embarrassingly disrespectful and crude commentaries do not discourage the Prince and Princess away from looking to the USA for support in their efforts to modernize and liberalize Saudia Arabia. Would the negative and disrespectful of the commentators prefer to see Ossama bin Laden rise from the dead and lead the Saudias and the larger Arab and Muslim world into another historical round of backwardness and violent Jihad? Prince and Princess appear to embody the Muslim ideal of peaceful Jihad. This is high idealism at a time in history during which the world of Islam has seriously fallen down on it's religious obligation to protect the Peoples of the Book (Christians and Jews at least, perhaps others such as Bahai). There is no reason such a religious obligation towards the Peoples of the Book should not also be extended to the protection of Peoples of other faiths. Prince and Princess have put their public face, their money, and their lives forth as a possible model for Arabia. This is not trivial. They deserve every strength we may give them. And it would not hurt their cause, if credible Muslim religious leadership were to emerge with strength to provide religious authority for the reforms that Prince and Princess encourage for Saudia Arabia.

Actually, Princess Ameerah is the only current wife of Prince Alwaleed. He has been divorced three times and she is his only wife. However, they do have a great age difference, and maybe that could have been discussed in the interview. Additionally, the issue of hijab could have been discussed more. I personally think he was really nice to her because he didn't want to scare her. Remember, she is the FIRST Saudi Princess to be this public.

Dear Shalom,
You don't tell Charlie Rose how he should conduct his interviews! Charlie Rose did not asked hard questions when he interviewed Netanyahu so Charlie Rose is a fair man and a very good man because he cares and I know that he wants the Palestinians to have a homeland.

Every interview has its asked and unasked questions. Charlie Rose can ask the hard ones but often cares more to be in cordial relations with his guest.
Charlie might have asked here.
1) Do you fear any retaliation on the part of the Saudi royal family for going so public in a way so strongly frowned upon in the Kingdom? Do you feel protected by the fact that your husband is a nephew of the King?
2) Are you bothered at all by the age difference between you and your husband? and about his previous and present personal status?
3)Do you dare to say the same things in Saudi Arabia you say here?
4) You advocate Democracy. How do you feel about Saudi Arabia's being a monarchy dominated by a few thousand princes at the expense of the vast mass of the people?
3)

I watch your program every day & never write reviews BUT I am so disappointed with your interview with Waleed bin Talal and his wife. You did not ask whether she is able to refrain from wearing the veil in Saudi Arabia with the religious police running around whipping the ankles of women for minor dress code violations.....you did not mention that this so called activist of women's rights is living in the same house as Waleed bin Talal's first wife, whom he is still married to. You did not ask the pertinent questions and allowed them to rehearse the dialogue. It was so apparent and so below your ability and standards. Shame on you!

Ah, exhale; here is a serene Saudi royal: composed, gracious, thoughtful, articulate, and no worry beads in sight ... what a counterpoint to her husband.

What neither Prince Alweed nor Princess Ameerah mentioned is that, back in 2004, Prince Alwaleed announced that he had hired a Saudi woman, Captain Hanadi Zakariya Hindi, as one of the pilots for his fleet of business jets.
With respect to Princess Ameerah's excellent command of English, it's not surprising: she graduated magna cum laude from the University of New Haven with a degree in Business Administration.

Last month the BBC reported that the King made a super royal-royal decree banning male staff from selling female underwear.
On the other hand the Grand Mufti (yeah I never heard of it either) has warned shop owners that employing women is a "crime and prohibited by Islamic sharia law".
So there you have it in a nutshell. Who will control women's underwear?
Look out Saudi Arabia, you are next for a bit of spring cleaning.

Very stunning woman.
She could be Princess Jasmine or a Kardashian. I tend to the former.

Smart way to get her message out.

The hijab concept is rather like the ancient Greek sin of hubris, and derives from a prohibition against pride. It applies no less to men than to women. The Old Testament frequently mentions humility in the presence of God. Catholics still kneel whenever approaching the sanctuary. The princess would appear to be a good illustration why Arab women wear them regardless. I take it, in any case, that she is His Highness' only wife. There is, as he intimated, a great difference between a lot of feminism and the recognition and encouragement of equality, which I think many Americans would do better to keep in mind.
