We are rooting for the New England Patriots here in Massachusetts. The Patriots continue to help children and families through their support of United Way. Now it is our turn to support them as they continue their quest for another Super Bowl title. Go Pats! http://youtu.be/uR_uCE-ISrA

I'm no jockette but I watched this segment with Schefter and Lupica three times!!! And, Charlie, please do bring Mike Lupica back to talk about that other contact sport: his boo-hoo sad clown piece on Gingrich brought relief to millions.

      Patriots 79 Giants 0

I would rather watch the expression on Giants fans faces, then watch the game.

      bwah ha ha ha

nonsense. lots of blah blah blah over nothing.

they said it is the "most watched tv program of all time". last year, there were 111 million watched Superbowl 45th. let's say we 2x this to 222 million for 2011 (unlikely but just for the sake of argument. that's only 2% of tv audience watching the cricket world cup (2.2 Billion viewers). even compared to soccer world cup, that's only 13% of tv audience (750 million). america need to wake up, join the world, play cricket, soccer... 1%-2% is a losing proposition.

      Charlie,

I hope if the Patriots win they dedicate the game to Myra Kraft and each of them puts their $88K paycheck for the day where their mouth is by donating it to one of her many, many charities: Brandeis University, the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston, Brigham and Women's Hospital.

(The players can each keep the ring though.)

Goodell: Well, we look at it as trying to create the most competitive league we can. One of the things we want every fan to feel in the country is hope when the season starts that their team can end up holding that Super Bowl trophy. And one of the stats we're most proud of in the last nine years we've had at least one team go from last to first.

Yet, something else must be going on because you also have teams like the Steelers:

“The Pittsburgh Steelers have won the most Super Bowls with six championships (record 6–2), while both the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers have five wins each (Cowboys 5–3; 49ers a perfect 5–0).”

Perhaps the formula needs a bit of adjustment and then sold to baseball for $2B a year ("Moneyball").

Charlie, promoting socialism plus cartels--you naughty, naughty man:

      Kroft: I mean that's socialism, isn't it?

Goodell: It is a form of socialism. And it's worked quite well for us. So we try to combine socialism and capitalism. How can we socialize by sharing our revenue in a way that will allow every team the ability to compete?

It's not just socialism. The NFL is essentially a cartel, albeit a legal one, thanks to a limited exemption from anti-trust laws granted by Congress more than 50 years ago.

Charlie, $6B a year times nine years just from TV.

"And it all got a lot more fantastic last month when Goodell and the league signed a record shattering nine-year deal with the television networks, including CBS, in which the owners and the players will split nearly $6 billion-a-year in revenue, following a season in which virtually all of the top rated TV shows were NFL games."

Charlie, heard you say this morning you are staying home and having a party Sunday. Isn't Indianapolis warm enough for you to attend, or are tired of being on planes.

    11. REMant  02/03/2012 01:30 PM Report

Maybe I'll watch, but I have not seen a single football game, pro or college, this year. No time, not worth watching, or they were not OTA. I would think tho that these two teams are likely here mainly because of their coaches, not their QBs or anything else. And wouldn't it be more edifying for the audience to dissect the worst teams in the NFL, not applaud the best?
